Are none of you guys from the American south? You never heard that old folk saying about how sunny showers happen 'cause the devil is whipping/beating his wife Lilith (the rain being her tears)?

From Google AI:

Sometimes it's expanded upon, and the Devil is beating Lilith 'cause he's angry at God for making the day so beautiful.
lilith isnt in the bible tho and i was raised catholic. the concept of her was not a thing

While Lilith originates in Jewish mythology, the saying I'm alluding to is not a religious saying (& if it was, it'd be Baptist since it seems to originate from Alabama/Louisiana/Mississippi/Georgia).

Here's an old Straight Dope article discussing the saying.

I always assumed Viviepop's Lilith & Lucifer marriage was a reference to the saying, since Lilith & Lucifer's marriage is on the rocks (since she left him), and Lucifer has an apple-tipped walking stick (which is what the folk myth often claims he was beating his wife with).

Well, Lilith being the name of the Devil's wife was likely taken from Jewish mythology, but the saying itself isn't Jewish - if that is what you are asking. It seems to be a purely American (likely Baptist) folk saying.

this sentence is so intentionally obtuse that it's summoned the angry ghost of JG Ballard to throw rocks glasses at you while screaming incoherently about his mind's theoretical plane or some shit
To be fair, the movie is so shit it might give you the impression Ballard's novel was that bad. Much like Crash, which also sucked, at least compared to the novel, it completely mutilated Ballard's actual message.

For some reason, the best adaptation of a Ballard novel was Spielberg's Empire of the Sun, featuring a genius performance by Christian Bale as a child, even though that also completely sanitized Ballard's much darker message. As with many movies with Christian Bale in them (like American Psycho), the movie is primarily good simply because Christian Bale is in it, and probably would have sucked without him (Malkovic also rocked his role).

The word Lilith actually is in the Bible (specifically the book of Isaiah), but it's translation dependent, and even then it doesn't refer to a pre-Eve wife for Adam, but rather some sort of monster or bird, possibly an owl. The idea of Lilith being Adam's wife only appears in Jewish folklore a couple hundred years after Christ's death.

Viv really needs to read the fucking Bible. If Viv did the bird Lilith I guarantee she would be changed into Stolas but with tits.

I think it was supposed to be a troll legend, Lilith isn't canon except for a troll bible or something, she was also Adam's rapist in one telling.

Original Adam always looked strange to me. I think they were trying to lean into the bird aesthetic but he came off really... goat-like, which doesn't match any kind of heavenly vibe. Personally I think Adam looking like a regular man and just wearing heavenly garbs works better.

The frat-boy douchebag thing was clearly a later addition so the Ex- idea is a definite possibility.
Don't forget the dragon idea that he was supposed to be on the concept. I prefer him as a human as well, yet I would prefer if he wasn't fat. I guess it adds to his character in some way - some resentment and such.
We really don't even know if this was Adam to begin with. This was during the time when Viv said the only Biblical characters she would be using in her show was Lucifer and Liltih (though she's from Jewish mythology but I digress).

We just know he was the General of Heaven's army (which if we were going by Biblical lore, would be Michael; but there is no confirmation of this being the case for this character either). It's hard to know what his personality would be like, but I figured it would have been something like we got with Sera.
Right, here we go - this was the "Adam".
Of course Lilitroon is a yenta! Think about it: She is a demoness who wants to eat kids or something. Blood libel...?

Screech-owl. It was a prophecy towards Edom, Isaiah 34. It's an unclean bird. Funny thing, the other word that people confused in the King James' translation was "grove", which was Asherah, the "Queen of Heaven". Because she was worshiped in such places.

I don't think I would call it a troll legend, the word "lilit" is used in the Hebrew text, and there are serious translations that do translate it as "lilith", such as the New American Bible, which is actually what the Catholic Church currently uses. As Outer Space Traveler just said, some translate it as screech owl (KJV is a big one that does), but others as lamia (such as Douay-Rheims), and so on, we don't specifically know what it is, but certainly not a specific person that was once married to Adam.

In a way I'm kind of sad that this season turned out to be decent, it's made this thread a lot less fun.
im quite happy its good. i enjoy the show so the fact i get to unironically enjoy it more is pretty good. I usually hate enjoy things.
I just am glad Viv finally did something better, even if she sperged online, maybe she should start taking criticism more likely. :optimistic:
