I mean, Homestuck didn't really start off as particularly crass. IIRC it didn't really end that way either, hussie just stared into the internet culture abyss too long and it became increasingly apparent that the abyss stared back. It suffers from having the opposite creative construction as Undertale: Apparently Toby Fox has some magnificent finale that came to him via cryptic symbolism in his dreams and Undertale/Deltarune is just him going back to a starting point and retroactively building to his initial vision of an ending. Homestuck starts off with a big premise that gets revealed to the audience through the story but seems to not really know what it's trying to ultimately conclude with. Hussie winged the ending and Toby winged the beginning, so to speak.
