Because Hayden is so insignificant the only people who are still following him are people like us and maybe a handful of people on tumblr who still remember GenZed.

Because adding 'ski' to the ends of every word totally makes it Russian. And those bear-wresting vodka swiggers are just so funny lol amirite? Hayden Black, with his finger on the pulse of social justice as always.

How has the Tumblr crowd not run him off Twitter already? He's everything they hate.
In Soviet Russia, joke ruin you!

Honest question: How do you guys feel about other media that includes Trans Actors playing Trans characters, like "Orange Is The New Black", "Sense8" and "Transparent"?

I'm fine with it, if the characters are more than just 'OH MY GOD I LOPPED MY DICK OFF' and the shows marketing isn't in your face with it, like it's something sooper special you guys.

My problem isn't with transness, it's with shit writing.

There are way less trans actors than cis actors because there are way less trans people than cis people.

That means there are less trans people to choose from who could fit the part. I think it's better to have someone who is actually trans, but if the media quality will go down merely because there isn't a good trans actor for the role, then I think it should go to someone who could act the role better.

Like Cwcissey said, we have nothing against trans people. We are just opposed to low quality media!

I'm totally cool with it, I think it's great exposure for those who are trans and for those who have not encountered transgender issues before. What I am not okay it is flagrant self promotion using a trans person as a crutch or the "token trans" person (as will swiftly become if things do not change). I think there's a lot of room for positive trans characters, I think we just need good writers and actors/actresses to portray them.

Although I haven't seen any media of such yet, I would be okay with it, if the actor got the role for being a good actor and fitting the role. If it's for the purpose of shoehorning diversity, that's where it becomes iffy.

I don't really mind?

The marketing for those shows was a little more subtle than 'YOU LIKE TRANNIES? WE GOT EM! THE FIRST TRANNY IN AN ANIMATION EVER' and then didn't try to sell t-shirts before the show had a single episode out. Gen zed: 'the scam' was aways about hard pandering for cash and bolting when it paid out. That's why it was marketed poorly and didn't emulate more successful media. Plus I'm sure the creators of those shows don't make terroristic claims about @Kitlen

So long as someone plays a convincing and compelling character then who cares.
Diversity is a good thing so long as characters are portrayed as real people rather than super special snowflakes who everyone sucks up to and anyone who dislikes them is automatically a badguy.

I'm pretty much in the boat with everyone else. Assigned Male gets brought up as a bad example of trans representation. Though the subtitle is The Incredible Adventures of Stephie (Who Happens To Be Trans), the comic is anything but. It's far more appropriate to say The Incredible Adventures of a Transwoman (who Happens to be Named Stephie). Character should always be first. Transgenderism is only on aspect of the character.

If anything shows like Transparent can, pun possibly intended, transition to media that includes actual trans actors in trans roles without tokenizing them. If I remember from a long, long time ago when this site was following the show's production and you were under the radar, that we saw a twitter post. In this post you were showing how in Hollywood, when the casting goes out for trans roles, is super-duper specific that it does shut out what few transgender actors there are. Something about: We're looking for a half-black/half-Mexican MtF transperson with one hand that can dance the Charleston while singing Pat Benatar songs. Yeah, that's as ridiculous as it sounds, but pretty close to what happens.

Maybe the Wachowskis will do a movie featuring transgender characters. But would you trust such roles to the Wachowskis after Jupiter Ascending? Pardon me while I eat my foot on this joke. Apparently Sens8 is a Wachoskis production.

It would be nice to have a transgender who didnt have trans as their primary defining trait.
If shona had been presented as a "true and honest" woman and her tranz status had been hinted at then dropped on viewers and the characters after a few episodes then thats actual story telling. You get an honest reaction from people at home and you can showcase how different people react to finding out someones not who they thought they were, you can showcase acceptance, indeference or betrayal, it makes the reveal interesting. You can even play it against expectations , have the white dude be all "always knew, dont care, changes nothing" and have to super progressive gal be all "but i wasnt told, im progressive, this should be about me" cause anyone can tell a story but good story telling comes from subverting expectations.
Having shona pitched as trans from day one robs it of impact and shows how shes pitched to a select group not a wider demographic.
Using a example from the best thing ever on tv "The Wire".
Omar is gay. Thats not his sole trait or his biggest trait. Hes a badass, black, cool, unforgiving, street smart, intelligent, honourable and vengeful.....and gay.
Its creates a character that even people who would normally dislike black or gay characters can enjoy and through enjoyment accept.
Its better than heres a MTF with a joke about her balls.

If you can't even be arsed to answer all the questions we had, why should I bother answering this one?

The writing of the characters on a show matter far more than the actors portraying them so it depends how you believe trans people should behave i suppose.

I always assume that an irl trans person would most likely act as the gender they identify with rather than the shrieking tumblrinas with made up pronounes and sexual persuasions that we follow here and therefore would, with a superficial glance at least, act like a "normal" member of that gender.

But to generalize if the most interesting thing about a character is their gender or the gender of the actor portraying them then i'm not interested in watching the show.
