-Shona-
Shona is generally a creative and dynamic person who enjoys to play video games and write in her spare time. Her dream is to eventually write a best selling fantasy novel series, and throughout the series you see her complete more and more of it, as well as see her struggle on certain elements on the story. Dysphoric about her gender, you see changes throughout each season as she becomes closer to finally getting reassignment surgery and finishing the transition. This dysphoria can often take a toll on her and she can be hurt by overt callousness since she takes these remarks to heart. She ultimately starts to become more and more confident about her identity as the series progresses, before she finally overcomes what others say and begins being fine with herself. Other hobbies she has includes a group D&D session she DMs, as well as playing MMOs of all types. She favors RPGs and Fantasy genre games.
-Cameron-
Cameron is sort of at the crux between being a dudebro and a nerd. He enjoys hanging outside and is a sports fan, with Basketball and Field hockey being his two favorite activities. But on the other hand, he is a fan of science fiction and other nerdy pursuits, and is an avowed Trekkie (Next Generation or bust). He doesn't seem like it at first, but he's a certified genius, especially in his chosen field of Programming and other fields involving Mathematics, like Engineering. He originally joked that he picked up elements of both so he could build a robot waifu, but he can't keep a straight face when he tries to say that seriously and busts out laughing. In reality, his goal is to eventually design his own video games either as his own software company or under an established house. Despite his easy going nature, he tends to not be a fan of crowds due to bad experiences with them when he was a kid, and often retires to his room to relax. He occasionally joins in on Shona's games, often being the awesome type of That Guy who makes the rest of the table have fun, but mangles the plot that Shona orchestrated. He likes FPS games and really loves Pilot simulations.
-Huey-
Huey is a fairly unassuming and calm sort of guy who tends to stay his distance away from others. He tends to adopt people as friends sort of like how some cats adopt an owner, but tends to like to be left to his own devices. He gets along fairly well with his roomies in spite of this, finding their company to be relatively enjoyable. Though he tends to become annoyed and twitchy should they mess up the house, as he unfortunately has OCD. He's a comic book fan, and swears up and down that Dark Horse kicks the teeth out of DC and Marvel nowadays. He's a regular at Shona's sessions, although as the relative newbie to the group, he's gotten under other player's skins for regularly asking how things like to hit rolls work or how Dice Challenge factors into a roll. He like FPS games as well, and also finds strategy games to be fairly fun. (SPOILER: He actually is a sociopath. This comes into play later on for the series.)
-Betsy-
Betsy is the product of two immigrants who came to the US to escape poverty and found a business. She also was raised in a rather puritanical and sheltered home, a product of the culture her parents lived in. Because of this, she tends to be very withdrawn and quiet, and defers to others. She struggles to find an identity outside of her parent's values, since the society of a metropolitan city comes off as somewhat too decadent for her upbringing's taste. Things especially get awkward since her parents are the type of people who frown on the LGBT community due to religious reasons, a trait that Betsy holds as well to some degree. Her struggle is much like Shona's to find her own identity and to find her own voice. She met the others when they were looking for another roomie, and she agreed to join, being relatively lonely at the time. Despite her initial fears that Shona's tabletop game might be unholy, especially considering what she thinks Shona is like, she found that the game was somewhat fun to play, though she tends to play lawful stupid typically. She generally only occasionally games, and it's usually casual games, though she has been coerced by the rest of the group to join in on Multiplayer games.
(Note: My buddy and I actually went with South Asian for Betsy rather than Chinese-American for novelty sake, though we didn't come up with a new name yet. She and Huey are the most different characters because we wanted to actually play with other ideas involving both Sociopathy and being the product of Immigration and conservative parents. We also changed Cameron because HOLY SHIT WHY.)
