But one thing I noticed before that he demonstrates in that clip is his ability to immediately recall obscure designer names for whatever he's wearing, indicating his attraction to luxury goods. In this case it's "ALD", the NYC designer brand Aimé Leon Dore. The "Suede Loafers" in question doesn't appear to be in the brand store anymore,
but there are ones in the same mold that cost $400. The website
Hasan indicates, whether that's where he actually buys from or not, is called
TheRealReal, "the world's largest & most trusted resource for authenticated luxury resale". It seems that you can't even navigate the website without an account, but I found it with that exact shoe listing before Hasan even brought it up.
Makes sense that he's scouring these high end second hand stores to find his endless amounts of new (semi-)expensive clothing. He does seem to love combining all kinds of weird brand clothing into some kind of unholy mix, so I would believe this is where he got it from.
Two problems though: First, $136 is not $100. Sure that's much closer than $400, but still interesting that the one time he decides to put out some kind of proof he's still about 1/3 off. Second, if "thrifting" has any kind of meaning, this isn't it. Nobody thinks you went into some kind of specialized, highly curated, luxury oriented second hand store when you said you went thrifting (even less so if it was their online store). This is something else.
Another thing he claimed he thrifted for $100 was a Moncler sweater in Japan a couple of years ago. Apparently they generally go for around $800 and up, and it doesn't exactly look especially worn:
In may he also claimed he thrifted a pair of Zegna dress pants for $30, at the same time indicating that they cost at least $700 new:
Seems unlikely to put it mildly.
Supposedly he used to actually thrift a lot, but now says repeatedly that it's basically useless nowadays. Claims he got this "Rodeo jacket" while "actually thrifting" "years ago":
One thing that's easy to notice when looking at these things is that it's both important for him to show that he got them fairly cheaply, and to convey that they are from a pretty expensive brand. Here he goes further though, also starting to talk about his expensive tailor and tailored suits:
Here he's bragging about his tailored suit to Abdul el-Sayed (sorry, the start of the clip got a bit messed up):
He also admits here that he's basically trying to copy Mamdani. No mention of also being bullied into it by ShoeOnHead though.
The interview with Ziwe came out yesterday, and contrary to my wary prediction, it's actually very good.
Just from looking at what was posted here it seems to actually be the most adversarial (or at least challenging) interview he has done. The Axios interview was basically nothing and the Triggernometry interview was very soft (although to be fair to those guys, Hasan was very careful with his statements there).
I almost have to commend him, knowing how flustered he gets, he seemed to hold up okay in that regard. I do wonder when she says something that somewhat makes fun of him and he just keeps yabbing on, if he just don't get it, or if that's just his best way to cope with it.
