RF2 has a mechanic that I wish other games in the series had, called rival marriage. Basically there's a different male rival for each love interest, and if you don't reach a certain heart level with her and propose, each bachelorette will get married to her rival love interest on a predetermined date.
Rival marriage is really underused in these type of games. I get that maybe most players like the idea of having a harem, but it's so much more satisfying to see the bachelors and other side characters have their moments together.

I've played all of them and they're all decently fun games. Extremely glitchy, poorly optimized, full of weird ass anime tropes and quirky overdesigned characters, but they're fun as fuck and they have a special vibe that no other series has. It's kinda shit, but it's my shit.
100% this. Rune Factory is like comfort food. Not gonna win any awards, but damn is it fun. Characters always end up winning me over by the time i reach the end of the first year too.

Did you play the Wii games? Those are the ones i havent touched yet. Are they worth emulating?

My bad, I forgot about the Wii games. They're the only ones I didn't play when they came out.

I've tried emulation, but I really prefer original hardware. Just a personal thing. I'm interested in getting a Wii U at some point, and I'll probably jailbreak it. They're on my list to play when that eventually happens.

I'm intrigued by Rune Factory. The new one would be my first. I dislike the top down angle that 4 Special and 3 seem to have (yes yes I know the former is considered the best) and from all accounts 5 is a mess with lag and uninspired everything.

As someone who struggled with Harvest Moon (AWL destroyed me because it was dark as hell) how accessible are these?

Just play the fucking top down games, nerd. You'll get used to it.

I have no idea what you mean by accessible, but they aren't hard games at all, if that's what you mean. RF5 is the glitchiest because it's the first one in 3D, and I wouldn't hold out hope for the next one to be much better. I have some videos saved of insane glitches I triggered just by playing RF5 normally, including one that inverted the colors and made all boxes in a specific area become infinitely tall. It also feels unfinished, unlike RF4, which has a ton of content. I'll still get Guardians of Azuma, but I'm expecting a similar experience because I don't think the dev team knows how to make a functional 3D title.

What was Rune Factory about?
I was lead to believe it was like God of War but once you defeated an enemy you could put them on a farm. Like if you battled and defeated a Unicorn you could have unicorn in your stable but I think that was a bunch of 4th grade bull shit and wishful thinking of kids that didn't know what the fuck they were talking about.
I still don't know what Rune Factory is, I memory holed it along with River King

This has always stuck with me. "Push THE start".
I don't know why but it always cracked me up.

Do you even have a clue what God of War games even are?

Just hop in on any of them, theyre all pretty similar imo and if you enjoy the formula, you'll like all of them.

Even 5 with all it's jank got over 100 hours out of me. Compared to AWL especifically, theyre much easier to get into than that.

Im actually optimistic about Guardians of Azuma. Optimistic they'll improve on 5's shortcomings at least.

I love Harvest Moon. I used to play the ps1 version of back to nature when I was a kid. Now it’s Tale of Two Towns. There’s just something super relaxing about the repetitiveness of it all with all the farm chores.
