Did Peggy Hill not teach us that simulated violence against animals by the cheer squad can only end badly?
(Harrison, Oh.) – Students at Harrison High School are getting attention for a reenactment that some might consider in poor taste.
During this past Saturday’s high school football game against East Central, a student dressed in a gorilla suit dragged a kid in front of the student cheering section and re-enacted the shooting death of Harambe at the Cincinnati Zoo.
Harambe was killed by Cincinnati Zoo officials in May after a three-year-old boy fell into his enclosure. Video of the incident shows the gorilla dragging the boy through water, although some feel Harambe was trying to protect the child.
Since then, the 17-year-old male silver-back gorilla has been the butt of many jokes and memes that have flooded the internet.
The reenactment has grabbed headlines this week, otherwise taking away from a terrific football game that was won by East Central by a score of 17-14.
A photo of the reenactment was posted to Reddit, which can be seen above.
