Why is Greta Thunberg so triggering? How can a 16-year-old girl in plaits, who has dedicated herself to the not-exactly sinister, authoritarian plot of trying to save the planet from extinction, inspire such incandescent rage?

Last week, she tweeted that she had arrived into New York after her two week transatlantic voyage: “Finally here. Thank you everyone who came to see me off in Plymouth, and everyone who welcomed me in New York! Now I’m going to rest for a few days, and on Friday I’m going to participate in the strike outside the UN”, before promptly giving a press conference in English. Yes, her second language.

Her remarks were immediately greeted with a barrage of jibes about virtue signalling, and snide remarks about the three crew members who will have to fly out to take the yacht home.

This shouldn’t need to be spelled out, but as some people don’t seem to have grasped it yet, we’ll give it a lash: Thunberg’s trip was an act of protest, not a sacred commandment or an instruction manual for the rest of us. Like all acts of protest, it was designed to be symbolic and provocative. For those who missed the point – and oh, how they missed the point – she retweeted someone else’s “friendly reminder” that: “You don’t need to spend two weeks on a boat to do your part to avert our climate emergency. You just need to do everything you can, with everyone you can, to change everything you can.”

Part of the reason she inspires such rage, of course, is blindingly obvious. Climate change is terrifying. The Amazon is burning. So too is the Savannah. Parts of the Arctic are on fire. Sea levels are rising. There are more vicious storms and wildfires and droughts and floods. Denial is easier than confronting the terrifying truth.

Then there’s the fact that we don’t like being made to feel bad about our life choices. That’s human nature. It’s why we sneer at vegans. It’s why we’re suspicious of sober people at parties. And if anything is likely to make you feel bad about your life choices -- as you jet back home after your third Ryanair European minibreak this season – it’ll be the sight of small-boned child subjecting herself to a fortnight being tossed about on the Atlantic, with only a bucket bearing a “Poo Only Please” sign by way of luxury, in order to make a point about climate change.

But that’s not virtue signalling, which anyone can indulge in. As Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and their-four-private-jets-in-11-days found recently, virtue practising is a lot harder.

Even for someone who spends a lot of time on Twitter, some of the criticism levelled at Thunberg is astonishing. It is, simultaneously, the most vicious and the most fatuous kind of playground bullying. The Australian conservative climate change denier Andrew Bolt called her “deeply disturbed” and “freakishly influential” (the use of “freakish”, we can assume, was not incidental.) The former UKIP funder, Arron Banks, tweeted “Freaking yacht accidents do happen in August” (as above.) Brendan O’Neill of Spiked called her a “millenarian weirdo” (nope, still not incidental) in a piece that referred nastily to her “monotone voice” and “the look of apocalyptic dread in her eyes”.

But who’s the real freak – the activist whose determination has single-handedly started a powerful global movement for change, or the middle-aged man taunting a child with Asperger syndrome from behind the safety of their computer screens?

And that, of course, is the real reason why Greta Thunberg is so triggering. They can’t admit it even to themselves, so they ridicule her instead. But the truth is that they’re afraid of her. The poor dears are terrified of her as an individual, and of what she stands for – youth, determination, change.

She is part of a generation who won’t be cowed. She isn’t about to be shamed into submission by trolls. That’s not actually a look of apocalyptic dread in her eyes. It’s a look that says “you’re not relevant”.

The reason they taunt her with childish insults is because that’s all they’ve got. They’re out of ideas. They can’t dismantle her arguments, because she has science – and David Attenborough – on her side. They can’t win the debate with the persuasive force of their arguments, because these bargain bin cranks trade in jaded cynicism, not youthful passion. They can harangue her with snide tweets and hot take blogposts, but they won’t get a reaction because, frankly, she has bigger worries on her mind.

That’s not to say that we should accept everything Thunberg says without question. She is an idealist who is young enough to see the world in black and white. We need voices like hers. We should listen to what she has to say, without tuning the more moderate voices of dissent out.

Why is Greta Thunberg so triggering? Because of what she represents. In an age when democracy is under assault, she hints at the emergency of new kind of power, a convergence of youth, popular protest and irrefutable science. And for her loudest detractors, she also represents something else: the sight of their impending obsolescence hurtling towards them.

She's not even wrong. A million people can talk about how it's brave of her to talk about climate change, but it amounts to nothing when nobody actually tries to do anything about it.
They know, but no one cares. It all about pretending.

Too drunk, vaguely read (TD;VR), but fuck the shut up with kids talking about politics. I'm automatically going to take the exact opposite position of what ever their puppeteers tell them to say.

I'll take her seriously when she bitches at China, Russia, India, the nations in Africa and South America, that all pollute wildly with no regulations.

Till then, she take her six million dollar boat that probably polluted more than 12 average people will in their entire life to make and go back to her country and give talks about how importing 65 IQ motherfuckers isn't good for the environment.

I'll take her seriously when she drops her opposition to nuclear power on the basis of "muh Chernobyl."

Does this girl seem off to anyone else? She speaks really slowly and has the flat face and wide set eyes that usually signify developmental disorders. Are they manipulating a sped?

"Chinese youth have their own methods", its called keeping your head down and not getting belted by the Great Red State.
That part also made me laugh out loud... we haven't heard a single blip about climate change protests in China.

But again, good ol' Greta just knows the culprit is only the US of A... nope, not China or Russia for sure.

The fear of nuclear power mainly comes from the fact that when it fucks up, it really fucks up. It's not like an oil spill, which while highly catastrophic, you can clean up, and everything will go back to normal. When a meltdown happens, you pretty much have to abandon the area for years. Couple this with other scandals like the mysterious death of Karen Silkwood, and it's easy to see why nuclear power has so many detractors.
But it doesn't fuck up that badly. Even Chernobyl, yes Cher-fucking-nobyl was not as bad as people claim. Immediate deaths were about as bad as a nasty refinery fire. Long term cancer deaths at around ~3000. Bhopal killed more people in a day and the area is still heavily contaminated. Not to mention that they kept the other reactors running at Chernobyl until 2000. People went to work there every day with no problems.

Fukushima is even more of a non-issue. Something like 97% of the supar-deadly exclusion zone of doom is less radioactive than Denver. It is only there to scare people into being anti-nuclear. There is no risk to the public. At TMI you couldn't read higher radiation levels at the fence of the facility as it was happening.

Considering all of the deaths caused by energy production and consumption (coal mine fires, refinery accidents, smoke, spills, leaks, falls, etc) nuclear is nothing as far as risk for the output it has. It is the safest form of energy by a very large margin. But nobody knows or cares because if some minor thing happens the press shit their pants and act like the world almost ended.

Nuclear fission is the stepping stone to nuclear fusion which would solve energy problems once we figure that out.
In the time to make that feasible, we'd have to figure out how to lessen emissions of all kinds and demonizing people for living day to day is not how to do it.
Want to promote a green initiative? Promote it as something that will save people money. I never see advocacy to use public transit outside "it means you pollute less you heathen" when it should be "it saves you spending over 100 bucks a month on gas" because one of the two will not make me hate you for insulting me. If there's one thing people will listen to, it's their wallets; and the thought of saving money would be damn tempting.

Speaking of public transit, it should also be something to focus on but I don't see many initiatives for more of that. If activists want emission's to be cut down, cutting the number of cars on the road is a start and that means more options for commuting. Can't do that when there are no options.

Mostly because outside of New York City, public transit is slow, dirty, and/or may not exist. I live on the edge of one county, there's a bus service but it only goes to downtown in the middle of the county. My job is in the next county over, which has no bus system at all.

Then there's the time aspect. When I lived in California I took public transport to go to a person's home as I was thinking of joining the lease. It took 4 hours with the bus and trolley system to get there, at peak hours when extra buses were running. It was a 40 minute drive, but I didn't have a car. Didn't join the lease, because an 8 hour roundtrip travel time sounded like hell.

Plus it's a money sink. I don't think even New York's is funded by the riders. There's massive subsidies in all of them, which means expanding them requires massive tax increases.

Greta's official escort is Luisa-Marie Neubauer, who is a member of the far-left organisation called ONE Foundation, which is funded by the likes of Bill & Melinda Gates, Bono, Bob Geldof & ((( Soros))).
She is a climate activist, one of the main organisers for the school strike for climate movement, is a member of the Greens in Germany & supports the implementation of UN Agenda 2030 in Germany.

So Greta has the backing of a liberal oligarch, among other elite figures & several globalist movements too.

I've heard UN Agenda 2030 being described as the "New World Order" by some, which sounds a bit conspiracy theory-esque but having read it, I personally think that it's a plan for world socialism & corporatism, with the sharing of wealth & reduction in equality between countries, which also means income inequality will be addressed on a worldwide basis. 2030 is also tied in to the UN Global Compact for Migration, another vast & worrying agenda of the elites. I also think that the Green New Deal borrows & relies heavily on Agenda 2030.

I could sperg endlessly about the UN agendas that are rarely brought up by the MSM but I'd suggest reading about them yourselves on the UN's own websites & make your own mind up as to what's planned for The West, if you don't already know what the Agenda is. Get used to hearing the term "Climate change refugee" as this will be used as an excuse for even more mass migration from the 3rd World.

Greta is the figurehead for global socialism IMHO & may well play an active role in changing our countries & lives in the near future.

An overview of Agenda 2030 can be found in the link below. "Transforming our World ..."

This Agenda is a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity. It also seeks to strengthen universal peace in larger freedom. We recognise that eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty, is the greatest global challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable development. All countries and all stakeholders, acting in collaborative partnership, will implement this plan

As we embark on this collective journey, we pledge that no one will be left behind. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets which we are announcing today demonstrate the scale and ambition of this new universal Agenda. They seek to build on the Millennium Development Goals and complete what these did not achieve. They seek to realize the human rights of all and to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. They are integrated and indivisible and balance the three dimensions of sustainable development: the economic, social and environmental.

On behalf of the peoples we serve, we have adopted a historic decision on a comprehensive, far-reaching and people-centred set of universal and transformative Goals and targets. We commit ourselves to working tirelessly for the full implementation of this Agenda by 2030. We recognize that eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty, is the greatest global challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable development. We are committed to achieving sustainable development in its three dimensions – economic, social and environmental – in a balanced and integrated manner. We will also build upon the achievements of the Millennium Development Goals and seek to address their unfinished business.

3. We resolve, between now and 2030, to end poverty and hunger everywhere; to combat inequalities within and among countries; to build peaceful, just and inclusive societies; to protect human rights and promote gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls; and to ensure the lasting protection of the planet and its natural resources. We resolve also to create conditions for sustainable, inclusive and sustained economic growth, shared prosperity and decent work for all, taking into account different levels of national development and capacities.

4. As we embark on this great collective journey, we pledge that no one will be left behind. Recognizing that the dignity of the human person is fundamental, we wish to see the Goals and targets met for all nations and peoples and for all segments of society. And we will endeavour to reach the furthest behind first.

5. This is an Agenda of unprecedented scope and significance. It is accepted by all countries and is applicable to all, taking into account different national realities, capacities and levels of development and respecting national policies and priorities. These are universal goals and targets which involve the entire world, developed and developing countries alike. They are integrated and indivisible and balance the three dimensions of sustainable development.

Etc. etc.

You have to realize the UN is an impotent organization. It cannot enforce anything and has no means to. All of its soldiers are pedophiles and human smugglers and would literally be crushed by a small country's military. Its obvious what plutocrats have planned, but the UN can't enforce jack shit. Globohomos try through NGOs which a lot of countries are getting stricter with and with China growing tighter in Africa, the NGOs will be getting shafted. China doesn't give a fuck and could knowingly commit genocide and all they would get would be a finger wagging from the UN. Also their climate agenda will fail because India and China want to push into 1st world countries and they need rapid industry to do that. Good luck to the UN to enforce anything to nuclear powers.

What people don't realize is that the UNs ONLY purpose is to prevent WWIII by having a back channel to security council members. Why do you think the US, Russia and China are permenant members? The three preeminent powers of the world. Then you have European mediators and some rando nobody gives a fuck about. So the UN can proclaim everyone eat bugs and live in shipping crates and they'd just be mocked like they always are.

As I stated before in the other 'children' thread, this kid is a tool of her rich parents. I really feel sorry for her in this instance. I have no doubt she has autism and other mental illnesses and trusts her parents, who basically saw her as a tool to exploit their own personal causes. She doesn't really have the capacity to think for herself because she herself is vulnerable. I honestly feel its tantamount to child abuse.

Her parents are exposing her to the world stage when this kid really doesn't have the capacity to handle all this shit. Politicans and the rich use her just fine. She's not their kid. She's just some child of some dumbfuck wealthy eurotrash who LARP as Antifa. No doubt she is getting her talking points from someone her parents hired.

Nobody is going to listen to her. People aren't going to be patronized by a child. So it's basically pointless. Its exploitation by her parents and others for a political agenda. Another tool of the rich.

Arrhenius was the first to use basic principles of physical chemistry to estimate the extent to which increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide are responsible for the Earth's increasing surface temperature. In the 1960s, David Keeling demonstrated that human-caused carbon dioxide emissions are large enough to cause global warming.

She's from a long line of "interesting" and/or "interested" people.

She's from a long line of "interesting" and/or "interested" people.

Very interesting. Until today, I just thought she was a pawn of the global(ist) elite but now it's looking like she's a fully paid up member of the elite. I wonder if she actually knows what she is doing or not ? Is she really being used, as many of us have thought, or is she fully aware of her situation ?

But the UN is currently working hand in hand with NGO's, members of the elite such as Soros & the EU. If you're an American & Trump remains in office, this may not have any affect on you or your country but it probably will if the Dems get in. The UK & most EU countries have already signed up to the various UN agendas & most EU politicians are fully on board with the globalist agenda of mass migration, renewable energy & all the other bollox, most of them want this to happen. Even when the UK leaves the EU, the most important parts of our sovereignty will be in the hands of the UN, who will be our ultimate masters.

Child soldiers = Bad
Child labour = Bad
Child activists = Good
