A fire has broken out in a tower block in west London with reports that people are trapped in their homes.

The fire in the 24-storey Grenfell Tower in Latimer Road in White City started in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The fire brigade said on Twitter they were responding to a fire on the Lancaster West Estate. Two hundred fire fighters are at the scene along with forty engines that were called at just after 1.15am.

Photographs and video from the scene showed huge flames engulfing most of the block, with lights on in many windows. The tower contains 120 homes.

Witnesses described hearing shouts for help coming from people inside the tower and walls of the building creaking.

Fabio Bebber tweeted from the scene that the fire had taken over most of the block.

The Metropolitan Police said two people were being treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and cordons were in place. Residents in neighbouring streets were being evacuated.

George Clarke, the presenter of Amazing Spaces, lives nearby. He told Radio 5 Live: “I was in bed and heard ‘beep, beep, beep’ and thought, ‘I’ll get up and run downstairs as quickly as I could’.

“I thought it might be a car alarm outside and saw the glow through the windows.

“I’m getting covered in ash, that’s how bad it is. I’m 100 metres away and I’m absolutely covered in ash.

“It’s so heartbreaking, I’ve seen someone flashing their torches at the top level and they obviously can’t get out.

“The guys are doing an incredible job to try and get people out that building, but it’s truly awful.”

The tower block was built in the 1970s as part of the Lancaster West Estate project.

So people sing Kumbaya after the Manchester attacks

but as soon as their living conditions are affected, they protest. :autism::story::autism:

Concert for Grenfell when?

Has there even been a candlelight vigil? Is there a sea of flowers?

Will this serve to deflect the anger which was growing over the terror attacks in a new direction?

Because said kebabs aren't indirectly related to the deaths.

Hence why I've been doing cheap fucking jibes at how we are supposed to be morally outraged at a block fire that bears resemblance to something that happened 8 years ago, but we really shouldn't be angry at something that happens 3 times in 3 months.

Livid is apparently a popular name in Londonistan

See, this is why I kind of suspect that a lot of these "muh refugees n communism" idiots are funded by vested interests, specifically to turn any protests over legitimate grievances into a bunch of shrieking faggots that get nothing done.
Like, there is a legitimate issue here. The Grenfell was a deathtrap that people have been complaining about for years. But trying to hijack this for "we need more sandniggers n welfair" isn't going to get anything accomplished. It's just going to divide the people upset about this into warring camps, and nothing will get done.
Also, that fucking communist faggots realize this WAS public housing, right?

I want to know what caused that fridge to explode though, no power surge was detected in the area so that's out but there could be a more unusual explanation as well like fire A caused bigger fire B or he was a idiot and he was rigging is PAYG electrical meter in some way for free power and it caused something to fuck up.
Wasn't there a power surge earlier in the year that damaged or destroyed a lot of appliances in the building? I think it was mentioned earlier in the thread.

Obviously islamophobia caused this fire, which is why we should let more refugees in! Not like we'll run out housing and put more people in danger!

There are reports from people that lived there saying that multiple power surges had happened. Talk of smoke coming out of sockets and one guy that said his PC bit the dust after a bad one. These things were known. If that fridge really is the reason, it compounds the tragedy.

Chances are the point of origin will never be determined. The intensity of the fire has almost certainly destroyed the evidence of how it started.

Witnesses seem to agree it was that refrigerator. The fact there were serious, known problems with the electricity seem to make that explanation very plausible. The building was also just a deathtrap in general.
