Fallout 4 w/ bare minimum of 100 mods/additions/overhauls. Makes the gameplay better but the "where's mah boi?" storyline is flat and underdelivered; one should also consider the lack of urgency with getting distracted (sidequests, building, etc) from such a plot.
You would think finding your kid who's been snatched by an unshaven biker-creep with mysterious motives would be time sensitive in the least.

I'll never forget this post I saw once:

Fallout 3: Please... where's my dad
Fallout 4: Please... where's my son
Fallout New Vegas: hey where's the asshole who shot me in the face

Any Ace Combat game. Especially 7, where they try to have some sort of 'deep' conversation about the use of autonomous drones in warfare, but it just comes off as 'drones bad, human pilots good'.

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic. There are some clever lines here and there, and your evil dad not betraying you if you join him at the end is refreshing, but it's otherwise the definition of play the game, skip the story.

Fire Emblem Fates Conquest, the only time in an RPG I started skipping cutscenes because the plot was just so bad but the gameplay kept me going.

Mass Effect Andromeda. As much as I enjoyed the gameplay and combat, I stopped around 1/3rd through out of mind numbingly boring plot and charactars I genuinely could not give a fuck about. Yes, the game was shit at launch, but despite it's shortcomings, they did make it playable, compared to Anthem (which has an even worst plot, but at least isn't Destiny bad).

Saints row 4 had very fun mechanics but the character interactions and overall story were horrible esp. considering how good the Sr2 story was and that it was still waiting to be fully resolved. GoH i just modded to hell (heh) and back and skipped all the cutscenes

FTL: Faster Than Light. The story is pretty barebones, but it's piss in spite of that.

Assassins Creed is a great blend of stealth and action, but when the Ubisoft moneymen wanted to squeeze more money, they made the worst "Ancient Aliens" horseshit that even the average History Channel show producer would call fanfic-tier to barely tie everything together.

And to make things worse, they fuck up important historical events and people to make the story bend to their terrible writing. And the story following the actual main characters sucks really hard, with Rogue being the only one I could find actually interesting.

In summary, i'm gonna put it in a way Ubisoft can understand: Va te faire foutre, votre écriture est de la merde.

I really wish Ubisoft would just abandon the Assassin story entirely and start marketing is as unrelated historical period pieces. Now, it might be awkward with regards to parkour and stealth, but you can come up with some justification for parkour for pretty much any character and you don't need an excuse for stealth.

Rogue has a really great story, I was surprised at how compelling it was.

Ace Combat 4 has a great story, I'm sorry but you're simply wrong to say it doesn't, rarely have I seen an opinion as wrong as that.

As for the other games 5's story is pretty good but also kind of convoluted and hard to understand, 6's story is more like 4 and I thought pretty good.

You're right though that 7's story is disappointing, but what bothered me was the time you spend as a prisoner, while that was an unexpected twist it simply wasn't fun, you want to be a hotshot pilot not a disgraced prisoner.

Other than that though the game had it's moments and it was great to simply return to that world, but I didn't like it as much as I expected too.

I think it a decent, but massively under nourished storyline. If the cut content had been included, it would have helped somewhat, but it would still lack badly. It looks a bit like deadlines were missed, so a decision was taken to cut back on what needed time, and just work with what was complete and coherent. The result was decent. I like FO4, but the older games(I knew only 3 and NV) seemed better. Anyhow, it could've been better.

Not sure lessons were learnt. Pre that update, the storyline had good elements, but seemed even weaker.

Figthting games. BlazBlue in particular is some kind of advanced re.tardation: supplemental material is not canon, but it kinda is.

The Far Cry series, depending on your definition of great. The plot of every installment has been getting progressively worse with Ubi polishing their "empty busywork" gameplay loop.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2. "You didn't get me out of a firefight when I was wounded, so fuck you and your country, I'm going to betray you!"

Hard Reset. The plot is so thin it shouldn't even be there, but it still manages to be complete nonsense. Painkiller could pull off being a twitch shooter having a barebones plot and have that plot make sense.

Octopath Traveler. I only paid attention to a few of the paths just because of how uninteresting some were. Fantastic battle system, meh story.
I had a problem with how the tone was all over the place. One character is basically an Atelier story while the other has her murder the person that enslaved and raped her from a young age...

The true ending is even bigger bullshit.

Ninja Gaiden (Reg/Black/Sigma) is my favorite game of all time and I couldn't begin to tell you what that story was about. Ryu gets killed, comes back, kills guy who kills him, kills guy behind the scenes of everything, chooses not to fuck Rachel and turns into a bird. That's as far as I could go.

Oh God, think this is the game that finally broke me. Been a FE fan since the GBA days. The waifu shit in the newer games was really grating but I powered through. The pants on head reetarded story in Conquest was the straw the broke the camels back for me though and I completely lost interest in FE.

I have a switch but have zero interest in even trying 3 houses at this point. Thats how bad conquest was.

Kingdom Hearts. Before with the first game it was just a simple good vs evil story, but between all the sequels and prequels explaining soooooooo much plot and character background, it just became a big confusing web of shit.

Also the "Disney" part in Kingdom Hearts don't even matter or add anything relevant to the story other than the "princesses of heart" part, which even that is just glossed over, so it makes one wonder why they didn't just make this like a side series to the Final Fantasy universe or something.
Kingdom Hearts after the first game is the worst and most confusing plot in video game history.

Mass Effect 2. The companion missions were great but everything else is you just mindlessly doing whatever TIM and Aria say because the writers like those characters more than you.

I've heard people say how dumb Conquests plot is. I only played the version where you side with Not-Japan and it was pretty dire, how much worse is Conquest?
