Rockstar Games Removes Popular Song From GTA Online
BY JOSEPH FRANCIS DOCHERTYPUBLISHED 10 HOURS AGO
Grand Theft Auto Online's soundtrack gets smaller thanks to an update that removes one famous track, with fans expecting more erasures to come.
As with previous installments in the action-adventure crime series, radio stations play a big part in Grand Theft Auto Online. A huge factor of what makes the open-world exploration such a pleasure is putting the pedal to the metal, burning rubber, and cruising to the many iconic tunes GTA Online has to offer. But things are about to change, as the tracklist for the popular multiplayer mode is about to get a big shakeup.
From Vice City to Los Santos, each location in the GTA universe features a variety of iconic radio stations that blare notable tunes ranging from classic oldies to hip hop and heavy metal. In some cases, these stations become the major focus point among gamers, with there being huge rumors over Grand Theft Auto 6's soundtrack.

The franchise's close ties with music are why the removal of this hit 1981 song has left fans confused, especially after the fact that GTA Online's recent expansion introduced new stations. Brought to the attention of players on the game's official subreddit, user llamanatee exposed that further inspection of Grand Theft Auto 5's soundtrack reveals that the Kano track, "Can't Hold Back (Your Lovin)," has been removed from the funk and post-disco station, Space 103.2.
No official statement has been released from Rockstar Games regarding the eradication of Kano's electronic track, with synth-beat being silently plucked from players in the acclaimed GTA Online Los Santos Tuner's update. Instead, the developers have chosen to highlight its collaborative musical efforts with labels such as CircoLoco Records, and the release of the Red Dead Redemption 2 soundtrack album.
With that said, the cause of the removal is most likely due to music licensing, which is designed to ensure that the copyright owners of musical works are financially compensated for certain uses of their work. It's possible that Rockstar Games no longer desires to pay for the right to use "Can't Hold Back (Your Lovin)," therefore, the song cannot play in-game. Unfortunately, many fans expect that more tracks are to be cut in the future if the developer continues to not renew the copyrights. This would not be the first time Rockstar Games had drastically altered the sound of its games over permits, as Grand Theft Auto 4 infamously excluded over 15 songs because of a similar ten-year licensing deal expiring. As of the latest #GTAOnline update, "Can't Hold Back (Your Lovin'" by Kano has been removed from Space 103.2 tracklist. no other songs or stations are affected.

For any fans of the open-world game logging on to take part in its clubbing scene but long the removal of a prominent track, there are methods of expanding the collection of available music. GTA Online's latest update added collectable music tracks. These six new music mixes that can be played on a new Media Player via the Radio Wheel, once they are found and salvaged.
Grand Theft Auto Online is available on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions in development.
Amazing, all that shark card revenue and they can't be assed enough to keep their golden goose intact. The Tuners update removed a song. It's begun.
That hasn't been a thing since the OG Xbox version of San Andreas as far as I know.Rockstar: "Lol just use custom radio."
Or is that still not available on consoles?

Not gonna lie, it's pretty shitty of them to remove songs for this "remaster" when the first one added new ones.
Remember that GTA V accumulated $1 BILLION eight years ago in THREE DAYS. And overall made $6 BILLION in sales since then. The Tuners update removed a song. It's begun.
Consoles cannot rip music at this time. Shame, I remember the 360 was able to do that but no custom radio station for IV or V.Rockstar: "Lol just use custom radio."

Holy shit, I've been so down about that series ever since that "reboot" got announced that I forgot about that. How is it that a series as "low profile" as Saints Row can keep songs like Kanye West's Power for 10 years while the GTA juggernaut keeps shedding theirs?Hell, Saints Row is able to preserve its soundtrack even 15 years later.
Even more spiteful is that they can afford celebrity "cameos" for the Nightclub and Cayo Perico DLC.Holy shit, I've been so down about that series ever since that "reboot" got announced that I forgot about that. If Volition can afford to keep their games intact, Rockstar sure as shit can. No excuse for their cheapness.
Nice, they screw over their voice actors while paying top dollar for celebrity cameos for Online nonsense.Even more spiteful is that they can afford celebrity "cameos" for the Nightclub and Cayo Perico DLC.
I remember the Houser Brothers mentioning to limit celebrity appearances in GTA because of "egos."
Not only that, but the Saints Row The Third remaster had "Power" in it too. I assume Volition would've needed to relicense the song for the re-release, something Rockstar can't do for the game they're so laser focused on milking with 10x the amounts of money.Holy shit, I've been so down about that series ever since that "reboot" got announced that I forgot about that. That or the music industry is just SHIEEEEEEEET.I do have a guess as to why Rockstar with all the money they made isn't bothering to renew songs..
The record labels are gouging them with new deals. I think that's why a lot of newer games don't have or have such shitty licensing. Back in the day games weren't considered as huge as they are now, which is why games like Tony Hawk and the 3D era could have such a good song selection.

Or Sam's wanting to insert his shitty electropop artists from his mong label into the game. That or the music industry is just SHIEEEEEEEET.
Still, I'm not giving R* an inch after their horrible decisions lately at the expense of quality and consumer goodwill. That or the music industry is just SHIEEEEEEEET.
