I know I already said it, but Summer Madness while cruising down Ocean Beach between the time the sun is setting to being straight night is my definitive Vice City memory. The mix of neon on one side, with the varying darkening colors of the sky on the other with that song playing is just *french kiss*
The first teaser trailer of Vice City actually replicates that memory.

I could just watch it all day. It's like going on vacation and waking up seeing the sunrise in a tropical setting.

Great, now you got me emotional. *sigh* where did the time go?

I started replaying San Andreas. Just as fun as I remember. It's weird how I find myself fucking around a lot more when there isn't such a heavy emphasis on the narrative (and there are actual fun things to fuck around and do)

The one bad or weird thing I forgot about was just how much shit there is that they never fucking tell you about. Basketball, Pool, the courier missions and even though they tell you about it they never really *tell* you where to find the burglary van. I guess that kind of makes exploring a bit more fun but there's just way more crap than just the offroad missions and such from GTA III and Vice City it feels like.
Or the fact that earning $10,000 (cumulatively) from burglary gives you infinite sprint. The game doesn't even tell you when you actually do it; you just suddenly have infinite sprint.

I either never knew this or completely forgot about it.
afaik there is no objective for robberies. You just earn enough and get a "mission complete".

If I hadn't bought the BradyGames guide, I'd just as soon skip the side missions. Diving for seashells, unique jumps, that f**king driving school.

SA has tons of little things like this. These are off the top of my head and people probably already know them, but:
  • Most mission markers have body armor within at least a couple of blocks, e.g. there's a suit under one of the bridges across the LS river by Grove St.
  • In the mission where you steal a semi with Catalina, don't bother trying to drive up the hill straight ahead; the goons will just shoot your truck to bits. Instead take the road that turns right immediately before the hill
  • The cannon on the Hunter auto-aims at cars and people, unlike the dumb-fire missiles
  • Paramedic missions are a cakewalk if you do them at Angel Pine
  • Most people know that you can access airports early by climbing on top of a car, but did you know there's a homing missile launcher in SF airport? It makes "Toreno's Last Flight" significantly easier
  • After completing the mission where you tail Millie, you don't actually have to date her. Just cap her on your first date and Wu Zi will call to tell you to pick up her card from her house
  • After completing "Vertical Bird," a cache of high-end weapons spawns at Toreno's ranch
Anyone else got tips and tricks? In general or for specific missions?

I knew all of these, but figured this one out on my most recent playthrough.

I forget which, but there is a way to get an everything proof Bobcat during one of Catalinas missions I believe.

Push UP when using the parachute during the casino heist.

hold shift when parachute diving so your character will negate the damage, easier to go down, shoot enemies limbs to keep them downed or else their lazeraim will kill you.
do missions solo or with people that are close to you, else the sync will fuck you up most of the times

There's a bug in San Andreas where if you fly outside city limits, you mess up gang territory spawns.

The algorithm that affects such code is outside the map boundaries. PC players most affected.

This was super popular shortly after release, at least on Gamefaqs. Everyone was doing it and had no idea it could fuck up save games. In fact IIRC people flat out thought it was a "cheat" and not a bug or something stupid like that.

What's even more interesting is that in the Japanese original release, Ballas were used as a placeholder for some entities. Sony Japan did not like that you could harm innocents in GTA.

No drugs, instant wanted level for shooting civilians, no ground beatdowns, no rampages, changed labels.
