There's a thread about the most "overrated protagonists" in GTA. CJ & Luis are the top picks.

I didn't mind Luis; he was loyal to Tony and his family to the end. He does have a good life so he's basically errand boy for the rich so I get that.

Thoughts?
CJ i can understand, but Luis?

personally, top picks are Niko and Johnny due to how many auto-fellate their characters from the games

Auto-fellate, what?

I find San Andreas in general to be overrated. It was overambitious with the world and activities. Especially with the PS2 limitations.

I actually like CJ; he was less of a sociopath than Tommy.

Overrated GTA protagonist... I'll have to think on that.

I remember there being an 'all in one' utility for modding San Andreas. I remember it including silentpatch, widescreen, etc. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Figured it out:

It's a four way tie between all three GTA V protagonists and Tommy Vercetti.

Trevor in particular is touted as a psychopathic badass, but he's quite tame. Even by GTA standards. It's like a "take his word" for it that he's insane.

Micheal isn't a good family man and his family is quite annoying. Why did they decide to give a GTA protagonist a family that you can't do much with?

Franklin's character arc is underdeveloped. GTA V focuses more on Micheal and Trevor than Franklin. The gang banger aspect just ends too quickly.

Tommy Vercetti can be an unlikeable dick sometimes. Anger issues, even more of a psychopath than Trevor.

GTA SA Downgrader.

Author abandoned it and rockstarnexus is gone. While you can still downgrade with it you'll install the other mods yourself.

VadimM's video covers it, with links and updated info in the description.

2021 is now embracing Lamar roasting Franklin from the beginning mission, Franklin & Lamar.

What a time to be alive.

I'll try to keep these posts to a minimum, but that one takes the cake.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=0bt9nKj2_P4Frankly, so does this one.

They're getting more complex.
My favorite is this one, for the sheer absurdity of it:

For anyone who doesn't get it, it's one of these modded into the game:

Some other good ones:

They're all absurdly comical.

I think V is trying to be meme material like SA. It is, but not for all the right reasons.

Luis is overrated? I don't remember anyone particularly liking Luis tbqh.

As far as Mikes family is concerned it was a miss. Before release I remember they would talk about how you were supposed to see how awful Mike was to his family, but it isn't really showcased in the game unless you really look for it and even then it's mostly tell not show. It makes his family look way worse than him if you just play the game. I've always assumed he was changed before release to make him look more likable but I think it backfired horribly for his whole story.

I don't even remember Luis until they mentioned him. Not to say he was a bad character, he was just in the background. After TBoGT, he was casted on the waste side.

Almost reminds me of Victor Vance, except R* retconned him from VC to VCS and he was an established character.

It doesn't even explain why Mike's family hates him so much.

The Pegorino family from GTA IV made for a good Sopranos spoof while being engaging on its own.

Once again, GTA IV has one of the best storylines in GTA history.
The Mafia parts of GTA IV's story were the peak of the game for me; Early story until Roman's Sorrow, and the late to final missions in Alderney. It's a shame characters like Phil or Pegorino didn't get more screen time, the Peg in particular has some great scenes in there.

Side note, is it me or there haven't been many memorable characters after IV? Only ones i can think of is the main trio, but even then, Franklin just kinda fades away behind Michael and Trevor.

Lamar is a Milhouse, you didn't see enough from Devin Weston and Steve Haines, the supporting cast aside from maybe Lester as annoying as he is, is just forgettable. And then you jump to Online, which i guess is now GTA V-2, and it gets worse. Couldn't even describe you the personality of any of the new characters except for Paige, who went from minor character to unlikeable.

It's odd how TLaD got the stronger lead character, and TBoGT got a stellar supporting cast. Wonder if it was intentional.

Johnny and Billy's feud was the story of LaD, with Johnny's personal relationships sprinkled around the plot, while BoGT was Luis getting dragged around by Tony and the rest of the cast. Always found it strange that Rockstar picked Johnny for the shock death in Trevor's introduction.

Whatever they were trying to do with Michael's family, he came out looking as the better guy compared to anyone in his family

Phil Bell was my favorite of the Pegorino family. Paranoid and careful, for good reason. His family was being reckless, especially one that isn't taken seriously by the five main families. IV originally planned to have Phil as a friend. I see why it was cut.

Ray was a well-developed character. Greedy and ambitious, but ultimately loyal. If only because he wants to move up the ranks.

GTA V just shit on IV's characters; TLaD got the harshest punishment. Now, they're reduced to harassing you on the phone for properties.

I actually liked the Lowriders story arc from V. BUT good luck finding a good team; matchmaking couldn't even finish the first mission. I'm confused of whether Lowriders was still a prequel to V or not.

Part of Algonquin and Alderney had that Sopranos vibe sometimes, that's always good.

It bothered me for a while that you didn't really found out what IV's ending was, but looking back now, it might just be better that way.

Me personally? I beat IV; I did the Deal ending.

Damn, Roman did not deserve that. Not like the other ending was much better. Niko had opportunity for love.

Other than a Lifeinvander account, no sign of Niko.
