Just seems hypocritical to make a big deal out of a character killing racists then being "ME LIKA DA FLIED LICE" at a Chinese person. It's called "taunting." I fail to see how that's a gotcha.

I think the writing was on the wall since RDR 2 tbqh. The argument could be made for GTA V, but Michael basically not giving a fuck makes the woke/PC shit in it more of a setup IMO.the writing was on wall since 2020
Every single racial slur is a taunt. Are you honestly trying to say it is okay to say beaner, chink, nigger, heeb, cracker, slope, wetback, jap, kike, etc as long as it is in the proper context of trying to piss someone off? It's called "taunting." I fail to see how that's a gotcha.
No. You're overthinking this. They're criminals. That exchange between Trevor and Mr. Cheng was a one time thing. I didn't immediately think after that: "Trevor hates Chinese people; he's a bigoted White man."Every single racial slur is a taunt. But we're talking about people who are trying to champion Trevor as some sort of progressive character. They would normally act that way where the second you do *anything* racist you're the worst person in the world...until suddenly they need to make GTA out to have always been woke or some stupid shit like that.No. You're overthinking this. Oh, I thought that was YOUR argument. My bad. I don't see why they're using TREVOR of all people to push some social agenda. IN a GTA game no less. But we're talking about people who are trying to champion Trevor as some sort of progressive character. Nobody should look at Trevor and see a racist person or a progressive person, they should look at Trevor and see a horribly mentally ill person. Then again, I guess that is why they would want to champion him...
Out of everything I've seen so far, shit like this is the most worrying. It means the fanbase is becoming pozzed. At least Saints Row fans didn't try to justify the change with the reboot.
I dunno. In my head, I'm thinking: Why am I arguing about this?
I'm overall confused about that whole argument. You're like "that's not a gotcha" but I don't see how that is anything but a gotcha with these kinds of people.
I didn't even realize we were arguing. I'm just saying I think it's a good gotcha towards these people, although I'd personally stick with "you're propping up a mentally ill sexual abuser/cannibal/murderer as someone worth looking up to?"I'm overall confused about that whole argument.
I was going to cite the Lost and Damned as one example of characters outright being racist to one another. Billy Grey and Brian Jeremy being anti-Semetic towards Johnny Klebitz.
Idk if is Rockstar's little wokeness but remember the DLC's were in alpha/beta stage when GTA IV was released.I didn't even realize we were arguing. Speaking of Lost and Damned though, it's kind of funny that outside of TLAD The Lost are portrayed as completely white. To the point that they changed Jim just for the DLC. I know some would claim this is because Rockstar was always a bit woke or whatever, but I think it has more to do with Rockstars writers having a problem with trying to make their criminal protagonists too likable.
I found it a nod that The Lost were more tolerant than their archenemy, The Angels of Death. Well, Johnny in particular.Speaking of Lost and Damned though, it's kind of funny that outside of TLAD The Lost are portrayed as completely white. To the point that they changed Jim just for the DLC. The model in GTA IV is actually named "jim_fitz"And i'm sure Jim's case was an actual oversight, since i read somewhere about the TLaD model being in GTA IV archives, like with the exclusive TLaD bikes in beta stage.
But i can be wrong.
That's what I'm saying though. Nothing about The Lost shows them to be tolerant outside of The Lost and Damned with Johnny. They straight up changed a white character to black, and then when you look into Clay you notice that he feels like he was thrown in very last minute. He has almost no presence or lines in cutscenes, he has no entry in the LCPD database.I found it a nod that The Lost were more tolerant than their archenemy, The Angels of Death. What's more interesting is that Huang Lee, the protagonist from GTA: Chinatown Wars, has a LCPD database entry. I never even noticed that. Clay is more developed than Terry, but is just a background character. They straight up changed a white character to black, and then when you look into Clay you notice that he feels like he was thrown in very last minute. JIM OF TWO WORLDSThe model in GTA IV is actually named "jim_fitz"
It wasn't an oversight, it was a change.

We also have to keep in mind there was a bunch of shit cut from IV so I wouldn't doubt that a bunch of stuff fell by the wayside as changes were made, even if in the final product you could write stuff like that off as Playboy X being dumb like he usually is. Chinatown Wars was probably in development during that time so his entry might have been a sneak preview. Clay probably took the spot of someone else early in development of the DLC and it wasn't completely changed to reflect that. Maybe Jason Michaels? He got a whole new model and he got included in the intro, even though he was barely featured in the main game. What's more interesting is that Huang Lee, the protagonist from GTA: Chinatown Wars, has a LCPD database entry. I remember Playboy X claiming that "all those bikers are racist as shit." Never mind that Jim is friends with Malc.
Only piece of lore I remember about Clay was that he was involved in Saigon.I don't think Clay replaced anyone. Like I said, he doesn't have lines or feature promeniently in mo capped cutscenes so I feel like he was added in after the fact and they just made up with it by having him feature more in gameplay.
Controversy is controversy. No matter what kind Rockstar will bank on it.Game's not even out yet, and people are already talking about it all day. I wouldn't be surprised that R* is making BANK off of word of mouth.
