Surprised it hasn't been brought up yet, but Rockstar posted a newswire about upcoming GTA Online updates. Looks like they're finally going to let people sell shit in Invite Only lobbies and some other shit that should have been fixed 4-6+ years ago..

In other news, Red Dead Online still gets shafted, with Rockstar saying "Muh new GTA" as the reason for why they're pretty much abandoning it.
I hope this game is good. I feel like they're going to release a trailer soon.

November or the VGAs. That's the soonest this year we'd see it.. Wouldn't expect it announced till at least the end of next year.
They literally announced it in a blog post months back. We know next to nothing about it though.

It'll be a shell of its former self. My guess is a shorter single player than V. I wouldn't be surprised if they'd release Online FIRST before the single player.

Rumors say R* wants to segregate GTAO going forward, so it would be a different game altogether. I approve of that.
They're just going to do what they did with Online and just incorporate it in Online 2.

That Newswire article was condescending as hell. Being able to sell in private lobbies was requested since the first business update.

So much for Red Dead Online getting anything substantial A YEAR after its last update.

I'm pretty sure both Vercetti's Mansion and Madd Dogg's spawn helis. Although maybe my memory is failing me, because I do recall one safehouse in LCS (Staunton Island) that gave you a heli too but maybe that was me playing with modded saves on the PSP.
The one at Lance's mansion is a Little Nellie (James Bond) and I don't think that's been in any other game.

Neither III or LCS have any flying vehicles besides the Dodo, which is more of a glider. It was supposed to be a real small propeller plane but R* changed it after 9/11.

That's what they always say but I have a feeling that the Dodo was never meant to fly as the game's map has no collision to make you avoid flying out of it and most of the buildings are untextured at the top. So Liberty City was never meant to be flown in. I don't know why the Dodo was added to III, maybe it was a leftover they never bothered to remove? Why would it be on the Import/Export list, have a bonus for how many seconds you were able to fly it and being heavily featured in Grand Theft Aero? We'll never know I guess.

You're likely correct and they just used 9/11 to cover up unfinished work.

The heli doesn't like to spawn on the roof. :stress:

San Andreas also had this problem. If you're aggressive and drive to the spawn point, odds are it won't spawn. You have to walk away and then come back.

I can't decide if GTA Online is truly on it's way out or not. Cayo Perico has made making money so damn easy compared to what I was doing 2 years ago to build my fortune. It almost seems pointless to make it so business sales can be made in invite only.

It would be the smart move. GTA V still has flaws that online updates introduced (you literally have to touch gates to get them to open for example), and then Red Dead Online had that weird seasons addition that caused everyone in single player to act like you were naked all the time...

I don't think this is true either. They originally claimed that they never intended for planes to be flyable because "you're a carjacker, not a pilot" and it's only went back and forth from there. Cutting Room Floor claims that there are super early models of the Dodo with clipped wings as well so it predated 9/11.

The fact is, if they didn't want it to fly it wouldn't fly at all. I'm assume DMA just couldn't get it to work right so they clipped the wings to explain the shitty physics/controls and kept it in thinking people would never figure it out/master it.

The actual changes they made for 9/11 were quick and dirty (police cars got the black paintjob, but helicopters kept the blue and they simply removed collision from the passenger jets so they could no longer be blown up instead of just removing the code for them to be blown up)

If there was ever an intention for the Dodo to fly, modders would be able to find it in the game and make it work I'm sure.

The biggest takeaway I'm getting from this Newswire is that Red Dead is...well...dead, and GTA Online is on it's way out as well.

Increasing payouts all around? Invite only sell missions? Come on...the writing is on the wall.

a set of Contact Missions that presents the opportunity to be sworn in as a special IAA field operative to investigate a budding criminal conspiracy.
I'd like to point out that everyone has known that this "cops and crooks" DLC was shelved two years ago due to the summer of love, so for everyone that's mad that GTA Online is getting an update over Red Dead keep that in perspective.

I'm going to take a guess that GTA Online is going to see one more major update. Two if Rockstar are really feeling ballsy. I'm guessing we're getting something involving Michael come Christmas, and then maybe next year if they're really feeling it they'll have some sort of big "wrap up" update.

When you put it like that, it's almost as if GTA VI will be released within the next year. If that's the case, I guess it's good that they've been working on it since RDR2 instead of just slowly porting over GTA V again (rumors had it pegged as having started development fairly recently, which made me flabbergasted at Rockstar's seemingly poor sense of productivity).

theres absolutely no way it started development recently.

if i had to guess based on rockstars history and everything thats been alleged, the game has probably gone through some serious script changes and major rewrites. but they have probably been working on gameplay systems, the map and everything that goes with it the whole time.

keep in mind that someone from rockstar (I want to say Dan himself) has stated that trevor wasnt a playable character with GTA V's inception and was meant to simply be an antagonist. slink johnson has claimed that at one point Lamar was meant to be a playable character in some capacity. its well documented that rockstar went through tons of changes with the story in RDR2's development, some of which were major changes made at the last minute (Arthurs son originally died in Colter, for example, and an entire love interest was removed a month before release)

so when tom henderson or whoever says that it went through a complete reboot or something, it's probably just a major storyline change or something and not completely scrapping the gameplay and map and vehicles and stuff.

i dont want to say GTA VI will release within a year, because rockstar can never stick with a date, but i would think that before the end of 2024 would be a safe bet.

there could always bee a crazy situation where rockstar actually releases a GTA Online 2 before GTA VI proper as well if they have enough solid "game" finished. there was that talk about releasing content "episodically" and this could be a really crazy way to do it.

I'm going to still guess that GTAVI will be in Vice City, just present day.

Hopefully enough work has been done prior to Houser and Lazlow's leaving that it's a decent sandbox to play around in even if the story disappoints.

But even if it turns out to be decent, it's going to be the "real" Rockstar's swansong at best.

Cops vs. Crooks was actually more competitive than V's Last Man Standing. Balanced as well.

slink johnson has claimed that at one point Lamar was meant to be a playable character in some capacity.
Like GTAV killing off Franklin?

Tez has said that the leaks about it just starting development recently/rebooted are wrong, and he's proven himself far more than any of the "professional" leakers. I'd agree that any talk of it being restarted is probably something involving the story and not the actual game itself.

At least Red Dead players finally got that sweet sweet "it's dead" confirmation they craved so much.

I don't even think it's a "confirmation." At least a GOOD one.

Watch Dogs Legion, a UBISOFT title, had a better end confirmation for its online than R* gave to Red Dead Online.

I feel for passionate Red Dead Online players. They're getting shafted for a NINE YEAR OLD game that has a subscription service.
