They gave column inches to this guy? It's his only published article, and it's psuedobabble. I dunno what point he's trying to make.
Guy wants a SJW-friendly remake of the GTA trilogy. Maybe he should go play the new Saints Row game.

Probably because the Driver games have such a shit reputation.
I actually liked the first Driver. A bit limited, but still fun.
The second made my poor PS1 chug, plus it had a weak plot.
The third was a dumpster fire.

Anybody remember that one GTA 4 lobby on 360 that was up 24/7 and it was spawn with rocket on airport ad nauseum? I am the muscle between your legs. I am the air keeping you alive. I am the silent assassin. Dun dun dun danaow.

I'm being more and more vindicated in my loony "this game was meant to release next year" theory , i don't know if i should be happy or sad.

But then they would have missed GTA III's 20th anniversary.

I mean, how fucking long does a studio need to port a game? Apparently the last game Grove Street Games worked on was the port for Ark, which released in 2018. Have they just not been working on anything for the past 3 years and Rockstar just came to them with this to have something at the last minute? Or is *this* the best they can do with 3 years?

If it's the later, I doubt an extra year of dev time would have changed anything.

I still work off the idea that this remaster was meant to be announced on the 20th anniversay , and come out a few months later , GSG was probably working on something else that isnt out yet , god forbid it was helping wth gta 6.

Free Mode. Damn near every Free Mode would start at the airport. Don't know why.

Considering the Mafia remake turning out quite well and if the 20th anniversary of GTA3 was important to them then... why not just do a remake of 3 in RAGE? Leave VC and SA remakes for now and just do a remake of 3. I know, more effort but if Hanger 13 can manage a decent remake I don't see why Rockstar couldn't. It would of sold like fuck and would really drum up hype for potential VC and SA remakes ahead of time. It really does baffle me with the manpower and money Rockstar has how poor their output is.

A remake of GTA III would have been great, but I'm sure someone at Rockstar/Take Two figures that's time better spent (not) working on GTA Online.

Plus there's the weird thing where they seemingly wish everyone would just forget the 3D Era ever existed in the same way nobody cares about the 2D Era. I used to think that was just a Dan Houser thing but at this point it feels like it's a company wide thing now.

I assume it's something to do with the 3D era not being "mature" or some other bullshit like that.

I'm baffled that relatively niche games like Mafia and Destroy All Humans! can get full blown remakes (damn good ones at that) while juggernauts like the GTA Trilogy get half-assed remasters that tarnish their legacy. Rockstar doesn't even have the excuse of them focusing on GTA VI since rumors point to it entering development only recently, they've done nothing these past three years beyond milking GTA Online, neglecting Red Dead Online, ignoring their campaigns, and making a glorified next-gen patch of a "remaster" (that's been delayed, somehow).

For such legendary titles, they absolutely deserve better than how Rockstar's been treating them this past decade.

That's the thing. They DON'T CARE. Anything to pump out money to avid consumers by any means necessary.

Hell, they've even reached the bottom of the barrel with shamelessly naming GTA Online updates after legacy titles during their rise as a developer. Smuggler's Run, Midnight Club, Bully, The Warriors.

Mark my words, they'll try to milk GTA Online for as long as possible.
