Whenever I needed to do combat I just put my controller down and used a mouse and keyboard. I couldn't imagine beating this game fully on controller.
I've done it to 100% twice (PS2 and PS4, I'm a trophy whore), it's not fun. I definitely agree with your earlier post, GTA3 has aged like a dog turd in the sun. SA still holds up pretty well, but it's showing it's age as well.

I have issues with the modern over reliance on reflective surfaces in general, but this is just ridiculous.
Developer: “Oh hey Unreal Engine 4 let’s us use cube maps! Oh boy! They look great! What’s that? It’s utterly tanking performance because of our spaghetti code? But I really like the look… how about we have it update only 4 times per second. Nobody will notice!”

A Note from the Rockstar Games Team RE: Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition

November 19, 2021
Hi everyone,

We want to provide an update regarding the unexpected technical issues that came to light as part of the launch of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.

Firstly, we want to sincerely apologize to everyone who has encountered issues playing these games.

The Grand Theft Auto series — and the games that make up this iconic trilogy — are as special to us as we know they are to fans around the world. The updated versions of these classic games did not launch in a state that meets our own standards of quality, or the standards our fans have come to expect.

We have ongoing plans to address the technical issues and to improve each game going forward. With each planned update, the games will reach the level of quality that they deserve to be.

A new Title Update is on the way in the coming days for all versions of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition that will address a number of issues. We will update everyone as soon as it is live.

In the meantime, it pains us to mention that we are hearing reports of members of the development teams being harassed on social media. We would kindly ask our community to please maintain a respectful and civil discourse around this release as we work through these issues.

While one of the goals of the Definitive Editions was to allow players to enjoy these games on modern platforms for many years to come, we also understand that some of you would still like to have the previous classic versions available for purchase.

We will be adding the classic PC versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas back to the Rockstar Store shortly as a bundle. Additionally, everyone who has purchased Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for PC from the Rockstar Store through June 30, 2022, will receive these classic versions in their Rockstar Games Launcher library at no additional cost. We will update everyone as soon as these are back in the Rockstar Store.

Once again, we'd like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while we work through these updates to ensure these games meet everyone's justifiably high standards.

Sincerely,
Rockstar Games

If R* cared to BEGIN with, it wouldn't had been released in that state in the first place.

What about other storefronts?

They're releasing the original trilogies only on the Rockstar Launcher loooool

Anyone who falls for this corporate bait shouldn't be surprised if they do it again, especially when they didn't mention a word about the whole modding debacle. :shit-eating:

Now I am jonesing to play the original Vice City from this thread. Is there any mods that offer a Checkpoint system? That is the only big feature I would like if I replayed the original games but I am not touching the Definitive.

Why? Checkpoint system is fucking broken in GTA SA mobile.

Some aspects of it aged poorly, but I wouldn't say it aged poorly on the whole. Lack of a map in III, for example, has never been a problem in my playthroughs as you drive all over the map enough to become familiar with the layout. If it was in the game, Espresso-2-Go would be trivial. Sit and aim missions are the bane of any 3D era GTA even with the mouse, especially if they're timed. What I dread every time I do 100% are the collectibles and I've never done it by myself without any kind of guide. There was some speculation that the news van in SA might've been able to help you find horseshoes or oysters and I wish this kind of in-game helper was in all 3 games.

Checkpoints make the games way too easy. They take away the penalty of losing your weapons on death, which in turn means you will never be strapped for cash and there's no need to strategize with the arsenal you have left.

True but I guess I dont have the motivation or time to reequip and redo missions from the start like years ago before I had more life responsibilities.

I think the sad things about the games you play years ago that you don't get the time for them anymore.

30 minutes a day is enough to complete at least one mission. The good thing about GTA games being so arcadey is that you can pick them up, play a short while, complete a couple of things and walk away. Compared to more involved games, where you have to keep track of your stats, the goals you set out, pre-grinding materials or encounters to make measurable progress etc.

All of this could've been avoided if Rockstar looked at it first, and if they saw the shitload of errors they'd push it back a few months to give it more time. Instead. They pulled a Bethesda move and released it as the mess it is. PC gamers should consider themselves lucky they're patching up that version, the console versions aren't likely going to get the same treatment.

Vice City missions are pretty short as it is so I kind of doubt it. I know I've never seen one but I never looked either.

Meanwhile here's me, played the game so many times since release I know where all the weapons and body armour are on the map and never buy weapons now on my playthroughs.

Pro tip - aggressively save cash in the beginning to buy the pad with the garage near the golf club in the early game. The early mission where you have to protect Diaz in the alley, his car is bullet proof (actually indestructible, I think you can only blow it up by flipping it). If you ice Diaz the mission fails but you can take his indestructible car. Fun to fuck around with but also very useful in the mission where you need to save Lance.

I envy the fact that you have a working PS2.
what do you mean? you can easily find working PS2's and people that do maintenance on them in some countries.
Also R* released a note (Ledditpost)
