I'm certain it was a domino effects of unforeseen circumstances that led to GTA Online being THE standard for T2 to follow for easy profit. Remember that Zelnick has a salary based on monetization.

Leslie Benzies and Dan Houser each have their own companies: Build a Rocket Boy and Absurd Ventures. It'd be interesting to see how they'd compete with each other and R*/T2 with any speculated video games. These guys were the bread and butter of legacy R*.

Given the fact the FiveM devs got bought, and OpenIV is dead, I wouldn't be shocked if GTA VI has a modding scene more akin to RDR2 for a long time.

I've come to the conclusion that without a publisher, most of these high level developers/visionaries are unable to actually release anything in a sustainable timeframe.

That isn't even getting into how AAA game development seems to be a house of cards right now.

The devs got a C&D once and while it was taken back after community outrage, I think it did hit the team hard and stunted it.

The model isn't. Rockstar can't model characters to be even semi appealing, in GTA V they looked like shit.

Hot Coffee is self explanatory and GTA Online mostly is too. Rockstar actually goes out of their way to fuck over modders in GTA 5, there is a script that checks if a DLC vehicle is spawned in GTA 5 and if it is the vehicle is respawned nearly instantly.
