Here's the news of the Government Shutdown as of 1/22/19

It's been a month now since this shutdown started which started back in December and no deal seems to be coming.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...day-32-as-democrats-vow-to-reject-trump-offer

"The longest government shutdown in U.S. history entered its 32nd day on Tuesday with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell expected to call up legislation to advance a proposal from President Donald Trump, which Democrats have already said they’ll reject.

The president said in a Jan. 19 speech he would support a mix of immigration-related proposals in exchange for $5.7 billion to build a wall or other barriers along the border. Trump’s supporters, including Vice President Mike Pence, pointed to the offer as evidence of the president’s willingness to strike a compromise with Democrats.

Pelosi’s Democrats, meanwhile, plan more votes of their own in the House to reopen the government, with a new offer of $1 billion for border upgrades -- but not a wall -- on tap this week.

It is just one piece in a comprehensive plan, it's only being opposed vehemently because the lack of it is always used in circular fashion to justify not cracking down in those areas:

Why bother going after companies that employ illegals and those who've long overstayed visas? Without a wall they'll just walk right back in if we chuck them out? And why bother building a wall? As long as you can overstay a visa and find a job with an unscrupulous company that looks the other way, they'll keep coming."

If Trump was asking for increased penalties for companies caught paying illegals $3 an hour to mop the floors or a comprehensive DHS review of all visa holders, they'd oppose him too as missing the big picture and somehow hurting innocents, and the very same ones refusing to give a penny now would be demanding he focus on something important that wold work, like a wall...

They DO NOT WANT a solution, they like the status quo as is, but won't come out and say it. If any part of that circular argument ever gets solved, the whole thing collapses and they KNOW IT.

That's why they're determined to fight every step of the way and not give him one inch no matter what he offers because they rightfully see this is the end of their ability to eternally kick the can round the circle as regular working class Americans get the shaft.

None of the media will ask, what is the Democrat position on border security? Let it stay the same, no changes? DACA amnesty?

Their plan is to flood the USA with people who overwhelmingly vote Democrat and have a higher birth rate than native US citizens.

Part of the disagreement is definitely down to demographics and how it affects the parties, but the more obvious reason for the disagreement is that Trump building the wall almost certainly guarantees him 2020 but him failing badly means he'll probably be a one term president. Build The Wall has become the new Read My Lips - No New Taxes.

(Sorry if this point has already been made in the preceding 23 pages. I thought I was on an autist forum dedicated to laughing at spasticated autists. Will I get banned for not agreeing to read every page and repeating a point already made?)

They will regret this deeply in the long term if they get their wish. Any real American will. A bunch of conservative Catholic Latin Americans may like (some) of the economic and social welfare issues the Democrats embrace, enough to vote for them now. But long term they'll either make a new party or change it from within. And modern white American progressives will mostly not like central American style, socially conservative populism even if it throws a bone to the economic left. Neither will the economic right or libertarians. The only ones that might be happy long term are white paleoconservatives except they're too racist to enjoy it.

We all have a vested interest in fixing this long term but the short term gains of progressives and capitalists is blinding them to their long term interests.
