With a little bit of wit, they could maybe salvage the new female models situation with an in-game scene in which Gomez angrily complains why the hell is the kingdom sending him the ugliest, manliest-looking women when he asked for sex slave maids for his harem.

It just boggles my mind when some creator inherits a formula for easy success - a game with a very solid foundation and a very devoted fan base - and instead of just polishing the graphics and controls a little they rather decide to take a big shit all over it.

Anyway, I have been thinking about this game lately and I'd like to mention how much I love the realistic sense of danger even regular people can instill in you. A lot of fights with human opponents aren't lethal and that does a lot for immersion, because after an unsuccessful encounter you don't get a "game over - load the last save" screen but rather the game continues, just with some punishment (you getting robbed and insulted). When you get ambushed by a group of bandits in Dragon Age, for example, you'd be an idiot to feel threatened and pay them, because you start the game as a capable fighter who chopped off 15 heads during the first hour alone and the game makes it clear that every single encounter is beatable and it doesn't really throw you into unfair, "unbalanced" fights. In Gothic, however, when you're stopped by two bastards asking you to "pay the toll" it forces you to assess the risk as if it was a real-life situation because the game shows you that even regular dudes can beat you and getting beaten and robbed of everything is worse than paying them the sum they're asking for. It feels interestingly realistic and it's a wonder many games can't replicate this.

Content creators have been given another preview for the remake, this time for chapter 1:
As a Gothic fan I'm not impressed. Judge for yourself.
