Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't this developer meant to do a Suicide Squad game after Origins, but then it got canned? It's just not a concept that works great for videogames, and though the villains at DC are a big draw, nobody's going to turn up to watch a movie about Polka Dot Man and some other faggots nobody has ever heard of.
Honestly, the background politics and leaks get a bit dodgy, so here is what I can recall.

Leaks indicate that after Knight, Rocksteady's next project was based on Superman. This makes sense seeing as Knight was giving heavy Superman references and hints, what with Lex Luthor being an Easter egg and all.

WB Montreal had a few projects. The main project leak was a Damien Wayne title set in-between the timelines of Batman and Batman Beyond. I believe you are correct that Suicide Squad was another leaked project very early on, and it was set to be a multiplayer shooter just like the current. Hilariously, Suicide Squad does have a mobile title that fits the genre.

Somewhere after 2015's Knight, something had to switch. Now we have WB Montreal making a Batman sidekicks game, and Rocksteady making a Suicide Squad game. At least we know that Rocksteady was fully intent on making Superman a thing until their pitch got rejected. I have to assume that Montreal struggled with Suicide Squad, if they were indeed making it, so Warner, desperate to make something of the franchise, pawned it off to Rocksteady.

Both games seem to built off hell developments, and mismanagement. So I have a bad feeling about both.

The Arkham games are among the best experiences I've had with games since 2007, they looked great, played great and had interesting stories.

But it figures Rocksteady would peter out instead of be able to maintain that high level of quality, video games genuinely seem to be dying in the west.

I wonder why exactly the Superman pitch was rejected? I hate to think but it was probably because a game only starring a fucking WHITE MALE was no longer kosher after a point, hence this trend of superhero games following diverse teams instead of a singular white male hero.

Arkham Knight is flawed but I feel like everyone should be able to appreciate it more in hindsight as being one of the last major AAA games before Wokeness and GaaS fully took over.

Depowered Superman was the issue from what I have heard. They were giving pitches where Superman needed to gain back powers or something of the like and WB was not impressed.

It was probably an idea that could have been tweaked if given more time, but I am going to assume that WB was very insistent on someone making the Financial Suicide game to really further their shit-tier movie franchise into a hit.

Wasn't the Superman game a rumor circulating since at least Arkham City?

Whooo boy.

It’s a “punk” cover version sung by a woman, meant to be some kind of #girlboss moment. Person in the tweet compares it to that cringe moment where Captain Marvel played “I’m Just A Girl” during a fight scene.

I think we all knew it was going to be a horror/shit show when they suddenly said it wasn't canon to the Arkham series.
That's honestly a mercy, I'm glad they're not fucking up the Arkham continuity.

I've said it before but the Arkham games are some of my top favorite games from the last 15 years, just phenomenal, I'm glad they're leaving well enough alone with it.

But why can't we just get a new Batman game? Whatever happened to the rumored Court of Owls game? Why do they seem to feel a Batman game HAS to be tied to the Arkham continuity, why not just start with a new continuity but also feature BATMAN as the lead character?

Like I said, I can only assume the reason why is because when the game was greenlighted when making a game starring a WHITE MALE just wasn't how it was done, so instead it's a team of men and women, the stupid La Vida Loca moment seems to confirm that if you ask me.

Because bigots like you won't buy a BAT THEM game.

I assume that, at best, they royally fucked up and thought that it would be better to greenlight the Suicide Squad and Gotham Knights games without any thought or care as to how long it would take to actually develop them. I'm convinced that Gotham Knights started as a direct sequel to Arkham Knight before they abandoned it for whatever reason (game sucking ass, distancing from the Arkham brand, whatever)

At worst, it was a conscious choice made due to the weird desire they seemed to have to replace Batman with Batgirls and Batwomen for like 5 or 6 years.

Maybe we'll see another Batman game before 2030. Maybe.

White male, beacon of Justice and morality, traditionally masculine and hard to make a game about. They'd have to go with Nigger Superman to get it made.

It slowly turned into this over the course of development. It was originally another interquel in the Arkham verse that would reuse many systems from Knight but have the origins voice cast. That idea was eventually scrapped, probably to make this a live service game, which they then allegedly scrapped the microtransaction stuff so now it's just a weird RPG.

That really sucks, was always looking forward to that potential Court of Owls game.

This again raises the question of WHY it has to be Arkham connected, I assume one good reason to abandon that continuity is it already covered so much of Gotham, it'd be easier to start from fresh than reuse areas like Origins or build a game around whatever leftover scraps of the city were left, but since they've done that anyway yet it still doesn't star Batman, what is the fucking point?

I can see why marketing would be gun-shy because "a Batman game" is associated with shovelware and only a "Batman Arkham game" was what was seen as quality, but since this is neither Batman or Arkham connected, again, what is the point? Unless they think people are stupid and just assume a game with "Knights" in the title is a direct sequel to Arkham Knight.

Retarded fucking bullshit all around, I hate the current state of western game development.

Again, I can only assume Wokeness is the culprit, game would have been greenlit at the height of anti-Trump and post-GG hysteria, maybe it's flopping will allow them to go back to the drawing board and create an actual Batman game again.

i honestly just want to run around as Nightwing or red hood in gotham in a game that isn't a lego game.

game doesn't look perfect by any means, but I think some of the criticism for it is a bit absurd, like saying it doesn't look as good graphically as Arkham Knight, yeah, no shit. Arkham Knight was the fourth game in an extremely successful franchise, and the money they put into the graphics detracted from other areas of the game, like boss fights.

thinking gotham knights would ever look anywhere near as good graphically as Knight just seems silly to me.

as for the harley shit, she's a 100% villain in this game, which I was honestly surprised to see considering how hard DC has been pushing her as a hero, to the point she's a batfamily member now who works with batman. if you want to complain about her being obnoxious or too popular or anything else, fair enough. but am I wrong in thinking it's at least neat the game has her as a 100% criminal for once? think the last time Harley was allowed to be evil was the fucking new 52.

This game looks like it plays like total ass. I saw gameplay of Redhood and it looked like PS3 era shovelware.

A depowered superman would undoubtebly be the best way to do it. Make it sort of like Crackdown.
