I don't really know why you'd try to lie or sweet talk your way out of admitting you were at the concert laughing at Fang, I don't know why you wouldn't stand up for her when she's bringing up her guitar playing skills, and I don't really know why you'd try to fuck with Trish's set up when they're clearly practiced musicians.
Well like you said; It's because you're as big of a jackass as Anon. If you really don't like Fang and/or Trish and/or Reed then it's easy to act out of spite and fuck with them. Ending 1 is hard to get legitimately because it requires you to pick the worst of all possible outcomes in nearly all situations but ending 2 can be fallen into by simply lacking empathy, which is understandable. With that said even if they are somewhat unreasonable they're still well written and have that narrative punch to where they don't come across as penalties for being a retard so much as just terrible if understandable outcomes for your actions.

Endings A&B of Age Before Beauty just don't have that, they require you to act like a moron just like Snoot Game's bad ends do but they lack the punch SG's bad ends have. The writing standards are much lower.

SG's bad endings stem more from a lack of emotional maturity whereas ABB's bad endings are more the result of lack of logical reasoning.
I'll see if I can find it, but despite the kind of sloppy writing, it did actually do alcoholism right.
Misty's alcoholism in this game is a 1:1 stand in for painkiller addiction. Misty also has some vague and unexplored mental trauma to the point where her doctor wants to put her on SSRIs, which she refuses, but this is mentioned briefly in passing in a single scene and her drinking is never really given the gravity that it should have. She literally out drinks a borderline homeless Navy veteran in one scene but yet maintains enough functionality in her day to day to maintain long term employment in the public sector with almost no one realizing that she regularly drinks on the job. This is not normal alcoholism, this is advanced alcoholism. Not the sort of thing that someone just falls into but a long term sustained habit that has been going on for presumably a decade or more.
I spent the entire time waiting for the reveal that she's a chronic alcoholic because of relationship trauma only for it to never be mentioned, I thought the part where they're locked in the basement and she was pacing around drinking was supposed to be a hint that she was lying about it (why walk about on a bad foot?) but I guess she really does just drink constantly because of a bad ankle.
Which is especially dumb that this goes unaddressed because alcoholism makes chronic pain worse, not better. The longer an alcoholic drinks for physical pain the harder it is to stop since the cause of the pain just becomes more and more aggravated over time, and this is something that is never addressed or laid out in the game.
The mod author actually responded to these criticism on the announcement post.

Slight powerlevel here but I was a serious cougar hunter in my late teens and early twenties, and yeah, this matches some of my experience with that where older women are not automatically more mature, especially not women who are single in their 40s and 50s since they've typically got something wrong with them that makes long term relationships highly unappealing. But that's the problem and I think that's a realization that most cougar hunters eventually (if not quickly) reach is that cougars are fun to hang out with but they generally aren't serious relationship material, which fits Misty to a T. Her and Anon have no chemistry beyond what you'd expect from a high-school fling.

It makes it even worse when Misty and Anon are arguing over her drinking after it causes a major health scare and she continues to drink behind his back, that's shit that happens shortly before a divorce and doesn't capture Ending 3's vibe of hope for the future and second chances. Age Before Beauty doesn't manage to capture this with Roberts because in her ending she hasn't turned a corner and is the exact same Roberts as she was in act 1 except now she blushes instead of sneers when she sees Anon.

I understand wanting to avoid Ending 4 because it is the saccharine sweet ending but Stella is objectively the more sensical route in this game since she's a way for Anon to reconcile with his past, she doesn't act like a total cunt when he first meets her, and she's just a generally more put together person than Misty if for no other reason that because she's half the age of Misty and thus has more room to grow. Plus her situation more closely mirrors Anon's and so the two of them acting as pillars for each other makes more sense than Anon gravitating towards the stone cold bitch who's old enough to be his mother and talks to him like a bratty younger sibling.
I see the mod's Stella as being a of reflection of Anon, they both embrace a kind of doomer "I'm fine just wallowing" mindset but unlike Anon she doesn't reach it because of her fuck ups.
Maybe I was too harsh with the skinwalker accusation but I still feel like the paralels between Ending 3 Lucy and ABB Stella are more than skin deep. Frankly I feel like Stella is just plain superior as a romantic option for Anon because she's similar enough to him for there to be a connection but the two are different enough to where they aren't going to simply reinforce each other's worst aspects. I still haven't finished Ending D yet though so I'll let you know my full thoughts once I do.
What were your guys' opinions on the Volcadera Ashfall demo? I think it did a really good job setting up the major characters and wasted no time getting the two leads intertwined in the plot. Still left a lot of content uncovered, so there's a lot to speculate on still, but I think what we've seen so far looks promising. Ngl I dropped Wani after a bit because the early parts of the game felt so meandering so it was nice to see the change of pace in this demo.
We were talking about it a few pages back but overall concensus in the thread seems to be "It looks really good so far and I'm excited for it".

You're completely right but I also think that in Stella's route you have an Anon who tries to be better of his own conviction to help the person he loves and that is so much more fitting and better for a post E2 Anon then having Roberts essentially hen peck Anon into getting his teacher's licence that he then doesn't even use, he does personally end up in a better position in ending C but he's shackled to a ticking time bomb who has barely improved.

Treating the two routes as both equal and valid conclusions to the story was the wrong move because its ended up with it just being a decent Stella route mod when the Roberts route (what the mod is meant to be about) should've had more content to in it to really sell her.

Oh for sure, no argument there. Roberts' route is one step forward and one step back.

I will admit to some bias here though as I greatly enjoyed Stella in Snoot Game and so seeing a Stella route that isn't terrible is mild wish fulfillment for me. I don't think that should undermine my criticism, but it should be stated for disclosure.

EDIT: a word

Just my two cents: Stella is like the sweetest and cutest anime loving dork. Be it Snoot Game, fan arts or side projects she always gives you a feeling off "Girl, you deserve to be happy and enjoy life".

Same, I like Stella too. It almost feels like self sabotage her having a route knowing how popular she is with the community.

Its actually kinda a self sabotage with any main character from Snoot. People already like these characters and put 'em in a fan project, the audience prob gonna gravitate towards them. They already like and now we get to see more of em and interract with em more? Hell ye they're gonna pick it.

So I finished up Ending D for Age Before Beauty and I have to say, it's just as bad as Ending C for all the same reasons but from the opposite angle on the relationship drama.

Stella in Ending D is just as terminally underwritten as Roberts is in Ending C but Stella isn't hurt by this nearly as badly because we got to know her really well already from Snoot Game and so she doesn't really need to be established in the same way or to the same degree that Roberts needed to be. Stella is, however, still an infinitely more likeable and charming character than Roberts and her relationship with Anon never left me asking "What do they see in each other?" like I did with Roberts' route. With that said the pacing in Stella's route is still horribly rushed and she isn't really given much if any character at all beyond what Snoot Game already gave her, she's just less bubbly here. The relationship between Stella and Anon is honestly just as bad as the relationship between Anon and Roberts it's just that in this case Stella is the one tied down to a ticking time bomb in the form of Anon with Anon in this ending being a fairly reprehensible waster and failing to grow or improve much at all, and I have to say that I'm made incredibly uncomfortable by the symbolism of both Anon taking a picture of Stella after she falls into the fountain as well as the implications made by Anon gifting Stella a necklace that's identical to Fang's old necklace. It's basically the author throwing up a big glowing sign that says "YOU'RE SO FUCKED THIS ISN'T GOING TO WORK OUT!" and you know what? He's probably correct. Anon and Stella are mostly happy for now but they're headed for a nuclear meltdown in the not so distant future with Anon's continued joblessness, delayed pension, and general rudderless attitude.

With all that said I will give the mod credit for its art assets, they all look great especially the big full screen art pieces. But no I can't recommend this mod and I genuinely do not understand why it's getting so much praise unless the cougar fetishists have let their desire for old pussy outweigh their ability to reason or the Stella guys are just over the moon to see a Stella route, which I fear is most likely the case for both. I think that the author has just totally missed the point of what made Ending 3 not a total bummer like Ending 2 and thus has written a pair of endings that basically end up as Ending 2.5 by simply kicking the can down the road and setting Anon up for just another massive catastrophe within the next few months after the end of the mod no matter which of the two ostensibly "good" routes you choose.

Okay, Stella in a hoodie is just adorable as fuck. Also, you are kinda right on people being happy Stella getting featured more. Since the other one we have with her is the Bad Apple mod.

I'm not familiar with that mod but yeah, the Berserk hoodie and longer loose hair is a great look for Stella.

The art is incredibly cute, sad to hear that the writing seems lacking. Never played any snoot fan mods before, and I don't think I'm starting with this one from the looks of it. Thanks for the write up.

It's not offensively bad but it definitely needed more time in the oven so that the author could really nail down their plot and characters. Overall I'd say that it suffers from having a very heavy smell of "first draft" on it. The author very clearly had scenes and the outline of a character but then didn't take the time to actually make those work and just wanted to rush to their big set pieces that they'd come up with in the conceptualization stages of the writing with little regard to how everything ultimately fit together.

It's a common issue with amateur authors in all genres and mediums but fanfiction tends to be especially bad about it.

Why is it that some RW chud(s) or at least some 4Channer can write stories with far more compelling characters than someones who allegedly are empathetic?
the 4channers wanted to tell the story of two somewhat awful teens growing up and facing their lives with dignity and respect while the original intent of the story was a self fellatio of how their own pointless identities are valid and its actually the entire world who was wrong

For some reason this question makes me think of this one page from Baki:
weeb-shiet.jpg
I think there is some similarity between this notion and Cavemanon vs KOOP.
The RW 4channer chuds were writing purely out of passion, for the love of the game. They didn't care if their writing was perceived as offensive or not, they weren't out to prove anything to anyone, they wrote the story the wanted to write for the fun of it. They did take criticism and feedback in their writing process, but ultimately I think they were true to themselves and their characters. They had more creative freedom than KOOP.
The KOOP empaths, they were limited by worrying about how others perceive them. They can't be writing anything "offensive", they have to worry about essentially "toeing the party line" in their writing and I think they put that first at the expense of their characters.

But perhaps there's also some survivor bias at work. If the Cavemanon people had failed in writing a good memorable story, they would have simply been forgotten and we would not be talking about them now.

To be fair, that seems par for the course for Snoot Game. I haven't played Wani yet, I will eventually, but I really don't know how you could get ending 1 or 2 unless you're just a big of a jackass as Anon is. The only choices I can see people genuinely flubbing are the rooftop convo which has a rhythm that someone might miss or someone might emotionally fuck with Trish at the tail end of the story for good reasons. That's what I did and I got Ending 3, which is the best written ending compared to 4, but that's a side tangent.
Somehow there is a surprisingly high amount of people that get ending 1 on their first playtrough and then are freaked out by it:

I actually think it was sheer luck that Snoot Game turned out to be good.

All too often, right wingers labor under the delusion that the best way to answer the problem of woke content flooding the mainstream is to do the same exact thing, but in reverse.

It was a miracle, if anything, that the creators of Snoot Game decided not to do that.
