They may as well just call the series "Massive Explosions: The Video Game." I spent about an hour just randomly wandering around with a minigun looking for things to blow up.

Having a bad day? Turn a base into flaming wreckage.

PC version of the second one always crashes on the first mission for me. Love what I played of it on PS3. No idea why my PS3 can handle that better than a computer that can run most games on ultra at 1080p.

JC2 was the best. JC3 was great, too, and JC4 is actually pretty decent, although they should have let you do more with the tornado. Highlight of the whole game, and it's over in one mission. *sigh*

Jc2mp was a magical thing for a while. 50 player races with all the chicanery that entails was like an ultraviolet Wacky Races. Shame the 3 version was canned by the dev being hired at avalanche. I had hoped they would put him on some official multi for 4, but no such luck.

JC2 was the fucking tits. 100%'d that game MORE than once. JC3 I bought at launch (very uncommon for me), felt underwhelming despite the mechanical upgrades. The story was just fucking boring (and I don't mean the cutscenes, I meant the mainline story missions). JC4 I still haven't played despite getting it free from Epic.

JC1 on the other hand was pretty fucking clunky. I'm glad I forgot about that game enough to give JC2 a shot.

I was underwhelmed by JC3 at first, too, but after about a hundred hours of playtime I realized my complaints were mostly due to the fact that JC2 was such a perfect game. JC4 was the same way, but the tornado missions eventually won me over.

I got 4 for free, too, and I held off on playing it for awhile, at least in part because of how much shit it got from streamers and journos. I'd recommend giving it a try, as the missions are overall better than in 3 (in terms of mission structure; the actual storyline is the dumbest it's ever been), there's some further mechanical improvements, and the weather gameplay is genuinely fun (if horribly underutilized).

Biggest issue for me was the relative lack of freeroam Mayhem points, which was a problem JC3 suffered from as well. Also I found the world map to be less interesting, as it's all one island instead of the traditional archipelago, and there's rarely any reason to use boats or planes.

If you loved Just Cause 2 make sure to check out Renegade Ops. Its a side game the developers created using the same engine that is basically Just Cause 2 mixed with the old NES game Jackal. Extremely fun and when it goes on sale during the normal steam sales dirt cheap.
I loved it - it's stupidly over the top. Kind of like a combination of G.I. Joe and Team America.

Also, Gordon Freeman's a character? Ha!
