Part of me wants to see them reuse the Maradonia wardrobes and costumes for the wedding ceremony. Hell, throw in the actors too! That wizardy fellow with the funny hat from the trailer could officiate.

Gloria's just turned 22, her life's barely starting. That's kind of young to be getting married to ... how old is this guy? How long have they even known each other? Wasn't Gloria dating someone different just a few months ago?
Well, I do hope they'll be happy ...
oh hey kenneth

Who wants to bet how long this engagement/marriage lasts?/QUOTE]

Depends on how long it will take for Uberscrn to aquire the citizenship.
This is exactly what I predicted many pages back

First, the staged photos showing affection.
Secondly, the well documented gifts from Uberscrn.
And now, the final stage after all the public setup, marriage.

Depends on how long it will take for Uberscrn to aquire the citizenship.
I don't really know how this stuff works, but if Alex is from overseas wouldn't (a hasty) marriage (following a whirlwind romance) to a US citizen be a good way to fast-track his citizenship application?

oh hey kenneth
I should probably point out that I'm not Kenneth. I'm new here and haven't read up on him. I came here mostly for Gloria. Nonetheless, hi.

That's the whole point of the relationship.
You can clearly see that she is not attracted to him and the whole thing was set up like a PR stunt.

Generally, Green Card holders who apply for US citizenship must establish that they have been living within the United States for a five year period. But the spouses of US citizens need not wait for five years and they just need to remain in America as lawful residents for three years and meet the other requirements, to apply for US citizenship.

And we could get DJ PezDispenser to spin some tunes at the reception! If he had just come along a couple of months later, all of this could have been his!

I'm not sure if it's official US immigration policy but, along with what @January Cyst wrote, it's generally accepted that the spouses of US citizens are also permitted to stay in the country (via a visa extension or whatever) while their application is being processed. So, yeah, big-time fast track to citizenship.

No worries; if you were Kengle, you'd be way saltier.

Welcome to the Farms, and stick around -- things are about to get good!

Man, is she just desperate to get out of her house (does she still live with her parents?) or what? Is she pregnant and weirdly conservative about it? They haven't even been dating for that long (unless they were stealth about it, which I don't really believe) and I think even the most liberal husband ever would expect her to cut the partying and half-naked photo shoots, so this marriage thing doesn't seem to be something that'd appeal to her.

The "marrying for the green card" stunt is not as easy as it seems, but I guess many people try it anyway.

Undoubtedly she is just viewing it as something else to spew all the pretty photos all over social media, get a nice dress, a bunch of shiny shit, and gallons of attention from. She's not thinking of the long term implications of a marriage, I don't think foresight is her greatest asset. When he proposed the first thing that flashed in her mind was a big glowing reception, not arguing in the living room about finances with a baby on her hip.

Maybe its all a publicity stunt and she isnt getting married? Would that serve any purpose?

It does sound pretty dodgy, cos we don't really know anything about this Alex chap do we? So Marina's engineered a wedding which will give him US citizenship, maybe, and what does that do for her and her daughter? Is he really rich? ... Or maybe they were angling for Russian citizenship for Gloria so she can escape the country and her actually hideous past? j/k

@Vicious.ink3 's story is sad, but plausible. Also, I suppose it's all very well for us to look askance at a marriage where the two parties barely know each other, and the man vastly exceeds the woman in wealth, experience and age, but this arrangement was considered pretty standard until fairly recently in history, and is probably still totally normal in some corners of the world. (e.g. in whatever part of Russia Marina is from? I don't know).

P.S. Gloria's called herself Russian a couple of times (that T-shirt, the whole "Russian Goldilocks" thing), but has she ever made reference to her German heritage? It's like she's disowning her father, consciously or not.

Youd think a foreigner with money like he supposedly has wouldnt have trouble staying in the country. Does citizenship really make that much of a difference if you got here in the first place and have beaucoop cash? Also if she wanted citizenship in Russia shouldnt she already have it since her parents immigrated?

Children of immigrants don't automatically become citizens of the country of their parents' birth; at least that's not how it works where I live. Anyway, I was just kidding about Russian citizenship. I wonder how huge and glamtastic this wedding's going to be ...

My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding will look like the paragon of good taste.

I thought in most countries children of natives are automatic citizens. Only a few countries like the US have birthright citizenship

There is a well-known stereotype of Russian women being sexy in a dark, vamp-like way. This probably has to do with Russia (more precisely the USSR) being an ally during the first and an adversary and contender of the USA for most of the second half of the 20th century. This caused the Russians to be seen as "baddies who are also respected" or what could be called a "worthy enemy". Since power and danger can come across as sexy (the "dark triad" stuff), the stereotype of the "Russian vamp" -- a mysterious dangerous lady who is rumored to have a voracious sexual appetite -- was... well, not "born" [as it goes back to Catherine the Great], but certainly massively expanded. The Baroness of G.I. Joe fame may be one of the better known examples.
(There is also the "Rosa Klebb" stereotype, though, that is, Russian women as butchy masculine lesbians.)

Germany on the other hand was first the enemy and then a rather unimportant ally, a little in-between country wedged (and split) between the east and west -- not very mysterious or sexy (though there is still the somewhat lesser-known stereotype of the Nazi Dominatrix -- but this is not something many girls would want to emulate... I hope).

So it's not that surprising that Gloria is trying to build on her Russian aspect.

You also forgot about the Bond femme fatales (think Agent XXX, Xenia Onatopp and Tatiana Romanova)
