Yeah, I'm not sure why 'Marina controls Gloria's social media' has become canon. Gloria's instagram in particular seems entirely consistent with both what we've seen of Gloria and also with what vapid twenty-something girls post on social media. I think it's pretty evident when Marina is on the scene because the writing comes across as something an eastern european woman who doesn't speak perfect English would post.
It seems kind of strange to me how the view of Gloria is slowly morphing into a Venus Angelic type hostage mother situation. It's not like Marina has consistently inserted herself into every aspect of her life to a degree where it's highly noticeable to online spectators like it was with Venus. Gloria works outside the house, has siblings involved in her life and goes on trips without her parents. Her dad pushes her into writing and her mother clearly has some involvement with certain social media things (like a couple of galleries on facebook, which are also tied to her art business), but I don't get 'puppet' vibes from the situation to nearly the degree that other kiwis have. Maybe I'm just not good at picking up on it.
