Would the denizens of this thread rather this or another season of 2045?
Looks like another animu where they blew the budget on selected scenes and the rest of the animation is kinda meh. Coomers gon get the fanservice they crave tho!
(fanservice rocks, screw you) I doubt this will be the case, Science SARU has a pretty good track record in the animation department. Then again, the key staff on this one seem unproven, sole exception being the writer, Toh EnJoe. It's a little worrying since his only other anime credit, Godzilla Singular Point, was pretty poor in the writing department. Has the studio/production committee clarified that this will actually follow the manga? The trailers imply that this adaptation will be faithful, but then SARU's the same studio that did Devilman Crybaby...

I'm interested in this. The 1995 movie decided to go super grim serious, which caused all the other adaptations to follow suit, but the original comic is very cheesy and goofy. It's an interesting take to go back and try a cheesy version that follows the comic. I assume this will only adapt the first volume, and maybe small parts of volumes 2 and 3, since the coomer author completely devolved into cooming and just started drawing porn at some point.

The GITS comic is some of the most autistic shit I've ever read, he was posting Wikipedia article-style rants on random shit he was interested about, in the margins. I gotta respect that level of Jap autism. I don't know how he even got away with doing that.

You definitely outed yourself as someone who only skimmed through Ghost in the Shell and read none of his other older works. Secondly and more importantly, doing manga, "gooner" fodder and etc. was mostly a side job for Shirow. As he had a real hum-dum career outside of the entertainment industry.

Yet those "autistic" rants are relevant to the what he's writing, to the genres and to the various entertainment mediums. For example, in his Intron Depot 1 art book. Shirow goes through a page or so writing how he (and others) have to show characters are communicating through the neurallink in the different mediums. As the way to describe it in a novel, is going to be different from how it's done in a manga and comic. Furthermore they're again going to be different to how it's shown on screen in a movie.

I will forever be angry that I cant read Arise Sleepless Eyes. I want to see more of Batou
Be happy you're not an AppleSeed fan and wanted to see more of Deunan. For the peculiar reason of Shirow simply can not draw Deunan anymore due to his art style having changed over the decades. As stated in an interview asking about whether anymore AppleSeed would be done ten or fifteen years ago.

I like Appleseed more than Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed Alpha manga is my favorite Shirow related work ever. I love that manga so much and Shirow didn't even worked on it.

Any truth to that, or is he just trying to not give away that he's refusing to draw her in her current movie style? It's not like he couldn't make pin-ups of her and Briareos being kinky together if he just put his mind to it.

A real shame Genesis isn't happening.

No sir, I read his words words words essays in the margins, because I hate missing out on anything.
The only other comic of his I read is Dominion, which I actually think is better than GITS in a lot of ways.
I don't know anything about his personal life, but when I look at Dominion and GITS, there is a clear progression where he put way more time into drawing tits and underwear over time. It follows a similar pattern to DUNE, where as the series goes on, you get more and more vivid sex descriptions as Frank Herbert turned into a dirty old man, and like 90% of people only care about the first book.

I'm not upset about him posting ramblings in the margins, it's very kino. I'm a fan, don't get upset at my snark. When I say it's some of the most autistic shit I've ever read, I say that as a connoisseur.
My way of thinking is, it's sort of like the appendixes that are in a lot of epic scifi or fantasy books, like LoTR. It's autism, but I appreciate it.
I will post some of these for ppl wondering what I'm talking about, in case some poor TV/movie-only fan wandered in:

After I got hit by a car the doc was explaining the metal supports they installed and how my arm is now rated for up to six hundred pounds my mind immediately went to that little sd doodle of Batou showing what happens when your shoulder _isn't_ appropriately augmented as well

I had been looking for that interview off and on for years and haven't been able to find it. Stating Shirow should draw Deunan in that CGI movie style is akin to asking the same of Kentaro Miura to draw Gats Guts in that TV CGI style before he passed on.
