Yes, and she forces you to walk back to the playable area. I fell off a cliff once because of that.
there's also a dialog making fun of it, so the writers are at least aware of it.

Cope through pain, leddit.
what annoys me the most and makes an objective discussion about it borderline impossible is the smoothbrain "if players never get what they want they gonna grind forever, yay!" take you don't even see from most western devs, and it's hard to get lower than that. on top of that they don't even really understand the system in the first place, like when they talk about the new artifact refinement mechanic (which is a kneejerk bandaid to placate critics at best and outright trap at worst).
a deterministic grind can still take ages, it's all in how you tune the numbers. if it takes 2 weeks (sounds short, right?) to properly make a BIS artifact, that's still two and a half months for one char alone. 10 months for a whole team. and abyss has two teams, plus extras of whatever variety you want. and that's not considering the resin cap where you also have to spend resin on char upgrades, which also cost mora. the main difference is that this way a good drop shortens the time you need, and isn't a requirement to get good stats in the first place. to put it in perspective, even if the game had such a mechanic from the start, people still would not have one whole properly geared team by now.

the basic "idea" of the artifact system is actually quite simple. ignoring mora and exp for a second, you're supposed to level an artifact, if it's shit dump it into another (you get 80% of exp back, with a lvl20 5* you need around 50k artifact exp max it again), rinse repeat. this way even a considered "shit" artifact has the potential to be an upgrade in the end if the 3/4rd substat rolls the the stat you want and upgrades often enough. sure, you miss out on 2 upgrades at worst, but if those 2 upgrades go into flat ATK on a perfect rolled 4 stat artifact it hardly makes any difference.
my personal gripe (besides the layers of RNG) is that to reach the point where you can comfortably rotate 2-3 artifacts to slowly upgrade your stats over time you have to waste a lot of potentially good artifacts for the exp - which is the main reason the new artifact refinement is shit, you lose the exp and a potentially good artifact (not to mention unless I hear otherwise I assume it's as skewed as the domain droprate for the stuff you want). my suggestion would be a better resin conversion for artifact exp besides artifact domains, which is 19/9 runs to max a 5*/4* (you also got the change to find an upgrade, but unless you already got a good one it also means you'd have to upgrade it again to see it's true value for a proper comparison). artifact exp from the realm depot is a start, but still awfully slow and artifact slots are limited too.

there's also no reason 4* artifacts scale worse when they're already capped by their max level, it just reeks of slapping the same design chars/weapons have (where it makes sense because they all have the same max level) on their supposed endgame grind, so you can't even really use 4* as a placeholder.
as for the layers, I already sperged about that enough, splitting them up in individual slots would at least take care of one of them (while still needing the right set, with the right stats, which then upgrade properly).

Having a gacha multiplier reset would be the shittiest and likeliest anniversary perk. While having a free five star char is probably too optimistic to be true (I'll pick Mona in a heartbeat). The chinks do add QoL shit, but pretty slowly.

Do you mean as in they just give you the bonus on gems again if you buy them? Could definitely see that and something like 5 standard and 5 banner wishes rather than the pick a 5* char or weapon.

Yep, I also can't think of anyone besides whales and minmax autists picking 5 star weapons over characters.

you'll get your 60 primos and you gonna like it.
(it's probably part of all the other stuff we'll get, it's just not sure yet how much the other stuff is compared to the usual event char/weapon).

with the new pity makes even less sense for a casual to roll on it, like before it's just another stat stick with a higher number. if you're limited in primos even as a dolphin you'll get more out of a new char.

wait how did that happen?

never played BD, but heard honkai gets pretty dark at times.
paimon twist is most likely coming at the end, only question is how much of a mindfuck it will be.

Paimon's gotta be part of some plot twist, it's just a question of what. Her name comes from the same source as Barbatos, Morax, and Baal, so that's either a hint or blatant red herring.

I'm betting on the "she is a part of the opening's god, but she is good!/ Became affectionate with you!" And then you have to save her or something

is the announcement out yet?
I'm saving my hard pity for baal, so not gonna roll anyway.
No official announcement, just leaks. It's Yoimiya, Sayu, Xinyan, and Diona. I'll roll a few to see if I get lucky, but they didn't really give Yoimiya an interesting enough kit to warrant going all in. She's cute af though.

Only leaks so far. But looks beliveable enough. First of all, there's Xinyan. Then, there's Diona. She's good, but her constelations after the second one is very optional. New four star needs testing. I am most excited about her passive, that makes you not spook crystal butterflies. I'll roll a few times to get her. Yoimiya also feels kinda off. Main concern people have is that she applies pyro too fast. Also her kit suggests that after her skill ends she should do her Q and fuck off to the pocket, and your other characters need to hit affected targets. She may end up good, but so far her kit seems kinda wierd. Weapon banner is also far from the best. Bow is very good, but only for characters, who want to shoot normal attacks. So far that's Childe and her. Second five star is also situational. It's not bad per say, but almost nobody needs it in particular.

It's not particularly bad, but what trully kills it is an archon right around the corner. Her featured polearm is very good on her, and second featured 5 star is speculated to be something good, since most duds were on banners recently.

yeah, sayu on the yoimiya banner was pretty much confirmed, only question was who the other 4* gonna be (same for baal which apparently has sara on the same banner, and with the way things are going probably barbara and noelle as filler). anemo greatsword could be interesting, I didn't check any of her leaks since I don't plan on rolling, so I'll I wait till it's out and then give it a spin directly (passive sounds like something different at least, but tbh never had an issue catching crystal flies, and it's not like you need those by the dozen each week).

diona's pretty nice to have tho, although she doesn't have much use outside support.

weapons, eh, don't roll on those since I already got r3 rust (now there's also the new inazuma crafted bow) and SS from the battle pass, slightly bigger stat stick feels like a waste of primos for me (especially with the new pity).

yae miko could be interesting since there aren't any leaks afaik (2.2 is still a while off).

Guess it depends who and when you ask.

Right now, a 5* weapon would appeal to me more than a character (besides maybe the novelty of one of the newer Inazuma releases) because I'm not a character collector, and I'd rather empower the ones I've already sunk time and resources building. Pretty ambivalent at the thought of getting a Mona or a Diluc. However I'd very much welcome a copy of PJWS or a Harp. There isn't content in the game challenging enough to feel pressured to roll more characters than you already comfortably use anyway, imo.

In general though, for sake of lore or novelty, then yeah, having more characters feels fulfilling.

I think most people would pick Skyward Spine or Harp for Tartaglia teams and overall flexibility. Maybe Mona for Morgana but Floor 12 isn't that difficult, and it isn't that rewarding to force you to pick Mona. I'm not sure how many people would use Morgana regularly for normal content, as it seems slower with more input needed.

An interesting alternative to a free character/weapon can be a character ascension material. Don't know what other gachas do about it.
