Multi-billion dollar games and the highest profile domestically made videogames in China, but they can't afford to hire a good writer. Surely there's gotta be a Chinese Brandon Sanderson or some other competent author they could have gotten.

Penacony was a huge mistake.
Made infinitely worse with this single quest.

In one single cutscene, they kill Firefly and they fucking reverse that shit within a minute.. That gave me horrible whiplash with how they kept building up to it. Why even bother? Why build up to this shit when it doesn't matter?

At least Amphoreus OS made it clear that no one recept Cyrene.exe was a real being kinda and there was the issue of the many cycles that drove Phainon insane.

This is just bullshit.
I won't play it, but I am still interested in watching the burning wreck that is HSR 4.0 from a safe distance due to the China/Japan tard slap fight. God speed to those brave souls who will play it, because if this is the lead up to it then oof the hasty rewrite is not going to help matters at all.
Don't worry I'll be here to endure it for you.

There's no build up to 4.0 if it helps. It's just The Firefly Retcon dating Sim with background lesbians. 4.0 is going to be magical.

Shaoji is a shit writer and I am glad this thread gave me a name to blame for this garbage.

Its either Whedonism in the West or unecessarily dogshit long-ass prose writing in the East. Its like gay homosexuality in the West and lesbian homosexuality in the East. Both tiresome, both garbage and I'm tired of being told one is either right.

Then again, modern audiences have dogshit standards so its no surprise what we get is nothing good.

Because any good writing that challenges ideas outside their own waifu harem power fantasy will trigger the incel CN fans who have done heinous crimes simply because they saw their waifus talking to a male character.

Unrelated to Chinese gacha but I remembered NIKKE's Third Anniversary and how divided the fanbase got because a few Nikkes were permanently killed per the plot and world building (and SU actually stating that they are killed off in the main story but still are deployable units) ... at the cost that the characters getting killed off wasn't popular enough.

Thus it brings to light this idea that writing will always be second (or merely an excuse at worst) to collecting powerful meta waifus that till always tell MC that they love him.

Except they rarely do that because I'm guessing it's immodest for women to be forward in Asia. That and the Protag must be in a Schrodinger experiment where they are with the waifu of your choice but also not because they can't offend people who want their waifu to be the canonical one. I genuinely don't understand why, Mass Effect fans don't murder each other over Tali vs Liara.

I kinda want SU to actually remove them as deployable units to make it consistent to the story. If they are dead, they stay dead.

Funny given that even the addition of other space opera charaters like Miranda didn't create a large wave of people going apeshit on their waifu war. Yet modern gay internet era now has gooners and incels waging war on whoever they declare as their wife. It also proves that live-service games are dogshit in storytelling because gameplay is so disconnected from the plot and constant revivals and no permanent killings in the cast. If Destiny and World of Warcraft can't make good stories later on in their lifespan, how do you think Hoyoshit and NIKKE will fair?

Frankly with games like FGO, Girls Frontline, Nikke, Snowbreak and the like, it's actually pretty common for waifus to have some sort of sentimental partiality or devotion to only the MC once their bonds with them max. That's why harems in these games are always formed in a way.

This is what we like to call "Master Love", It is as cringe as it sounds.

The new windtrace replacement, "Snowtrace", felt really bad wow.

At first i thought it would be hunter friendly cause you have the cold meter leading to freeze, the heat totem location and snowstorm hiding but it's incredibly easy to stomp the hunter.

I only played 2 maps and 4 matches, the map with the stone ruins is pretty much GG for the hunter because i stood up there 3 times and waited and literally no one climbed, and even if they did i would do the good ol invisible glide away that always works. It's been 5 years and they still haven't learned.

The other map was with the fatui tents and that map feels too large. I was hunter and feel like i spent most of the match running in circles with everyone and even after getting the favor the guy would just lose the highlight for some reason so i lost but fine, he dribbled me good. I also found a lot of fake disguises that blinded me, how many did the guy i found put?

Hunter has no different customizable tools either, only the short range sonar in large maps. Not fun to play and no challenges either, meaning if you don't give a fuck you can just wait it out.

You know it's bad when they put a hidden npc too for the hunter to find to give them a few free points, as if it's a consolation prize. I didn't even see any talk about it online, rip windtrace.

Star Rail has reached that honkai 3 nonsensical story level where you have memory, timeline, simulations, alternate universe fuckery and more bullshit that the writer can simply make shit up on the spot and you have to nod.

You can easily make up trailblazer memories and retcon stuff, have a random new character appear and reveal it was all their plan all along or go change something that said to be unchangeable because we making miracles (until it's revealed it was also part of the plan).

I'm noticing that hoyo really likes to set up some kind of "prophecy" that will inevitably have a dumb twist. Firefly died like Elio said but it was in a dream! *wink* Fontaine flooded but unflooded so ok. Mavuika was going to die but was saved. Whatever the heck happened in amphoreus and now these predicted futures.

I've literally played just enough of it to get the Event Points. It's honestly just not a well thought out game mode, especially considering how much of this Event is recycled minigames.

It's still an upgrade from last time where they blatantly ripped DbD? The bar is fairly low.

bullshit that the writer can simply make shit up
I'm once again reminded of the best description of Chinese Wuxia writing, to quote Sseth
you eat a pill, sit on your ass for several years and once you're done, you go from rank 8 ping-pong to rank 2 ching-chong, which is still like hundred ranks below the HEAVENLY GOLDEN DRAGON GOD EMPEROR STAR ANCESTOR, but it's okay since there are still about 3000 chapters to go and all big dick characters that could kill you with a fart are currently busy, so you can go and wipe-out the ding-dong clan, which obsessively wants you dead because you courted death by destroying the king-kong clan after its young master picked a fight with you over your jade-like beauty childhood friend
Realizing how many Chinese works - games, movies, whatever - base themselves off Wuxia makes the tropes easy to spot at least...

Tried to get Durin's C2 and ended up with a Qiqi con. Now I'm out of primos, but at least I got Jahoda to C6, I guess...

Snowtrace sucked, but I also find the event story super uninteresting. Why should I care about literal who Minnie? And while I find Varesa's playstyle fun (though not enough to get her), her whole shtick about being a fat cow that eats a lot of food is annoying, I'll set the quest to auto again tomorrow because I really dgaf.

The Matrix. It was The Matrix. But that is also more prophecy because blah blah blah simulation is doing a race to the bottom of the world ending, and Cyrene.exe gotta ctrl + alt + delete that shit.

I am scared for 4.0. This massive rewrite gauntlet is going to be felt to the bones.

It makes Chinese media bit of a coinflip to get into becuase there's a good chance it's good, and there's a chance it's some long-winded philosophizing about how different turtles shit and lay eggs and how that explains the minutiae of the human experience or whatever.

Same. Who the fuck is this twat that's gonna fuck off forever when the event ends?

Remember when Honkai Impact 3rd was big in the gacha space, then Mihoyo created the 2nd Chapter update which pretty much tanked the game to near irrelevancy? They have not learned a thing at all.

Huh - either I missed it, or they announced who Paimon’s new VA actually is 2 weeks ago, one Penelope Rawlins.
Paimon is voiced by the same person that does Amberley Vail in the Caiphas Cain books? She is a voice actress, so her having range is not a suprise, but I would never have guessed...

AFK healing carried 92 3/4% of this fight. E-Argus/E-Marcus carried the rest

Switched the game back to English audio for the first time since the strike started just for shits and giggles. Really not impressed by Paimon's new voice. I know I'm supposed to hate the original VA for being a sperg on social media or whatever, but I always thought her version of Paimon was phenomenal. I found the squeakiness endearing.

The event does feel a bit half-assed. It's not really doing anything for me. Though I think it is nice to see Alrani, the perpetually suffering grad student. She's featured in some amusing quests over the years, and it was a nice surprise to see her again with voiced dialogue and everything. And I guess some of the unvoiced dialogue from Klee, Yaoimiya, and Sayu is kind of cute and interesting.

To be fair and kind of off topic but those tropes work in Wuxia/xianxia settings due to concepts and ideas that you would generally be acquainted with if you have some experience with works of the genre, I'm taking things like "luck" (as in fortuitous encounters, sons of luck/heaven etc), "the vastness of the world", "heaven/heavenly will" and such, those tropes actively make sense or at least are understandable within the settings because they come "pre baked" into the genre and are almost axioms of it, but then you try to apply them into different genres where people have different expectations (especially when the work is meant for a worldwide audience) and overall the world works differently and it can definitely end up badly as it's not set up well enough.

Overall, don't try to recreate esoteric wuxia/xianxia asspulls in other genres, it doesn't work, even less on foreign people.
