Semi offtopic but if the thread don't mind me asking, how much do yall spend money on gacha and on what?
I can't recall but Genshin is the only gacha I've played and stuck with. Dabbled in HI3 back when Fischl and Paimon were added but the powercreep turned me off. Tried HSR but the genre wasn't for me. Bought the Welkin when Yae Miko had her first rerun and the only time I've gotten the pass was because a friend gifted it. The Natlan characters don't give me any incentive to spend.

isn't that basically just the genshin formula? highly doubt dehya and tighnari are gonna have another banner ever again, maybe chronicled wish but that's it.

Not exactly because

1-They made it clear from the start Dehya and Tighnari were going to standard banner and ther first banner was simply the opportunity to guarantee them on release. Star Rail never added a standard 5* or implied old units would go there..

2-Star Rail is not throwing them into standard banner, they're going to "limited banner 50/50 loss pool". This means you can't get them on standard banner, beginner banner, 300 roll invitation and probably not on anniversary freebie either (we'll see).

Every limited 5* in genshin has always been limited and marketed as such, which is why genshin model has such a strong FOMO "value". People roll on characters with the expectation that they can't be obtained any other way and it might take years for their return.

Like, some people don't give a fuck if Shenhe is not top tier, they waited over 2 years for her and they WILL guarantee her. It would suck for them if Hoyo revealed she'll never have a rerun again and the only way to obtain her is losing 50/50 on limited banner.

And i got something wrong previously about honkai 3. In Honkai 3 it's not a cash event but a crystal spending event, meaning F2P players who roll during the event can participate and you're rewarded for hoarding until the next event.

Leakers have "confirmed" the star rail one will be exclusively paid currency so f2p won't get anything from it...

?????

Omg what is happening to star rail? Suddenly MHY just went balls to the walls with the money grubbing and they weren't exactly charity galas either before.

I dunno, feels like they pulled all the tricks to fuck the game so hard, it has a prolapsed asshole.
some genshin numbers I saw had over a 50% drop, HSR is way more powercreepy which means higher chance of turning people off, ZZZ is it's own mess.
people burn out, get tired, content doesn't hit (natlan being divisive), more competition now and later.

tightening the thumbscrews is an easy way to get money fast, at least short term.

Do keep in mind they're making another Honkai game (a pokemon inspired game)

I believe their tactics are,

1.Make the game unique and packed with some content
2. Repeat Step 1 multiple times
3.Have one game get updated slop content, so if that person finish his daily's, he'll play another Hoyo game
4.Profit

That can be conspiracy talk from me but, it is strange that people went from praised Star rail to shitting on it after 3.0 and then start praising ZZZ.

See you all in a few years when this Pokémon-type game gets buttfucked. Unless Neverness to Everness AKA NTE (what a fucking name) or WuWa somehow manages to give them a hard run for their money. I have hopes for WuWa. Don't disappoint me, Kuro. You can do as many bimbo harem character arcs as you want.

BTW what are people's thoughts on NTE? Aside from the shitty name. It's still in development and is rumored to come out in the back half of 2025.

Personally I'm indifferent. It looks like another open-world game and the art direction is as if someone took ZZZ and WuWa pre-2.0 and dumped them in a blender with blessings from GTA. You can customize your car evidently which is....noteworthy. Visually it looks kinda uninspired but I don't expect anyone to suddenly be a groundbreaking force in visual design these days.

Worth noting that it's made by the same devs as Tower of Fantasy and we all know what a disaster that was at launch.

Now there's a name I have not heard since 2022. Every single gachatuber sang its praises and then forgot about it after like a month.
I think it was because it was sort of botched at launch and people latched onto it as the "Genshin killer" only for the game to kill itself. Well kill and kill, AFAIK, the game is still going.

Hopefully, Hotta Studio learned their lesson with NTE.

The only current gacha game I've spent any money on was Genshin Impact. I spent to get Nahida, then the game immediately gave her to me and left me with enough resources to buy Klee's witch outfit. As far as Genshin goes, I'm unusually lucky when I try pulling for a character I want, but maybe that's because only ever try for the characters I want.

I spent about 25 dollars on Girls' Frontline back in the day. Speaking of which, Girls' Frontline 2 is just fucking stingy with its pull materials, even by gacha game standards.

Pure speculation on my part, but HSR is probably easier for MHY to experiment with and fuck around with the various systems to see what works to extract maximum revenue with minimal effort. They've cut the game back to the bare minimum content wise and the whales are still whaling so they are going to keep fucking around to try and pull more money until they can't then they'll walk it back until they hit equilibrium.

For Genshin they seem to be very conservative with changes and internally probably have a "don't rock the boat" mentality. Change is very slow coming and it's only now that people are quitting that they are starting to be more "generous" with anniversary rewards and the like.

In other Genshin news they're starting to do all the lore dumps for 6.0 and this time around it's all the stuff involving the moon sisters. Which has worked in grabbing my interest, all the background lore stuff in Genshin is like crack to me and I can't get enough of it lol.

BTW what are people's thoughts on NTE?
Idk, between NTE and Ananta. At least, I remember few comments on 4chan retelling Chinese opinions, NTE not that great or something. But I'd give it a more consistent theme than Ananta. Since NTE is so far mostly occult or supernatural things in modern days. Meanwhile, Ananta is both scifi and supernatural elements.
It's just me being picky with the theme. Like in ZZZ, I find Miyabi and her spirit thingy are strangely conflict or out of place with whatever whole Hollow Zone as scifi apocalypse. Everybody treats Miyabi special power as natural.
Ghostbusters series is cool for me.

Neither of these games are gonna be side GTA or whatever. Since GTA is normie-ish stuff, as always weeb stuffs are natural repellent. Both games would release in next year if earliest though.

The whole Genshin killer is just "WoW killer" zoomer edition and mostly gacha content creators to milk on. Since drama farming is easier and supposedly "better views" than making proper game guide.

Edit: The recent WuWa survey is funny. They also ask the kind of gameplay content earlier as in "Faming simulator" and "Assembly line".

Hoyo might think they're literally too big to fail at this point. It's wild to think Mihoyo was once a small niche company with one good action mobile gacha inspired by EVA and DMC and now they're one of the top gaming companies in the whole world making billions per year and setting up industry standards.

It's only excusable by the fact that hoyo still delivers high quality polished games and invest that money in new games but their insistence to take over every single gaming genre and these recent trends means the greed is taking over.

These catgirls are so generic they look AI generated. Combat looks J A N K (not even hitstun when you get smacked) so i hope its far from finished. Those area transitions are too fast and if this is a phone game i call bullshit. Not even star rail can put you in an upside down room without a loading door. It's going to run so bad it will steal WuWa's phone heating copypasta.

Driving a car is unique but its completely disconnected from combat and probably exploration too cause i doubt you'd drive in dangerous places. I guess you can race people on multiplayer and shit but i wouldn't play a gacha for that.

Girls Frontline is the only game if I can ever recall to not only make XCOM-ish gameplay feel boring, but make the gun workshop, a mechanic that allows gun modifications (popularized by Escape from Tarkov and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019), feel scummy as hell.
And they'll do the same to ZZZ. The circle of life continues.
Its like vidya gaymers will never learn. This is the same shit with Wargaming with their "World of Tanks/Warplanes/Warships" games. Which is hilarious as I see people still shitting on that playerbase all while they are playing Hoyoslop and other similar games.

Genshin listed some QoL changes coming next update:
  • Manufactured artifacts will get 1 guaranteed level up into each of it's selected affixes
  • Choosing to navigate to a quest in a subarea will now open that map
  • When navigating to an overworld boss you don't have the teleporter for, the game will mark it's cave entrance with a skull icon
  • Serenitea pot shop will allow you to bulk purchase things by adding them to a cart before checkout
  • You can now search your gift mail box
One of these changes is nice, and the other 4 are fucking worthless. Anything to avoid artifact loadouts I guess.
