That's not placeholder text, that's just a bug where NICKNAME is supposed to be $NICKNAME and mean whatever you called the traveler, and merged the gender specific dialogue. "cool today" = aether, "pretty today" = lumine.
Confused me because could have sworn the character came up with a nickname for the traveller earler in the quest.
Natlan may seems whatever African
It's also mesoamerican and south american in influence but twitter/reddit people solely focus n the africa inspirations and bitch about every character not being black ER I MEAN BIPOC

The recent main story quest was a LOT longer than I thought it would be and ate like 2 days of gameplay for me. Really neat how the captain isn't a bad guy despite being the number 1 strongest in the fatui. Guy sort of gave off some vader vibes (as in vader from the movies where he's no nonsense guy working for the actual bad guy but actually has some good in him). Actually his design and this whole recent quest kind of weirdly had a Kingdm hearts-y vibe about it. As in Kingdom hearts before disney started wrangling in control, the first 3 or 4 games or so. His helmet seems almost 1 to 1 of the lingering will which was literally a similar case of "body withered away to nothing but immortal" type of deal under a different circumstance. Guy gives off vibes of "if he really wanted to kill you he could no with no problem".

Man, I just realized I have to do basically ALL of Fontaine on top of all the extra quests I left open after at least a year
that was probably most players after they added the commission changes. turns out people aren't dumb and understand that if you can replaci doing your daily chores with opening chests and doing story, people will save those to do a bit every day. I have absolutely no idea what they were thinking with that initial change and how shortsighted it was.
ironically now they overshoot and outright bribe you to do content when it's released :story:

Why the hell did Yuanwu show up during the attack on Jianzhou? Who is he even in relation to everything? It would have made more sense with Sanhua or someone we actually met before this.
apparently initial story was like that, danjin was the questgiver for the mine etc.
they had to scramble after the first reaction to the initial story wasn't exactly great - which was more a matter of execution really, I liked that not everyone trusts you 100% from the start, shit like that reeks of fanfiction mary sues. however lingyang outright stealing your crownless kill and giving you shit for it was maybe a bit much, especially for chinese players who expected something different.
it's why the first few chapters feel so messy after it had to be rewritten and mashed together in a few months, pretty sure everything after act 4 is based on the version before, hence the avengers-moment with the people you don't even know etc.

feels they overcorrected a bit much in the other direction. I get gatchas are for collection waifus and fanservice sells, just don't make it as brainless. EN translation apparently making it more explicit doesn't help (some shorekeeper dialogue in CH/JP are more ambiguous according to some posts)

I know file size is already an issue with Genshin, and I know FOMO pays their bills, but surely a company with MiHoYo's resources could figure something out.
unironically I believe they didn't think of it, and know it's too late to fix. it's the kind of shortsightedness you see often everywhere.
for example to make a system like that work, it would have to know if you already did that event or not. now, if you assume you don't have to save any records because the events are only temporary anyway, how would you verify years later if someone already did that quest (and got that reward) or not? like how would the system know you did the quest all the way back in 1.1?
you surely can't give people a reward twice, so the only other option is double down on fomo.

ironically made me think about recently what's gonna happen when the game goes EOS. sure everything will be gone, but I wouldn't be surprised if they dump it as a standalone game with minor changes. without the gatcha FOMO and liveservice aspect it's still a solid zelda-clone all things considered. 70 bucks for people to have their own standalone version might be worth it for all the people who skipped it because of the GAAS stuff. otoh companies tend to think it cuts into future profits, even if it's a different demographic they'd still spend time on something else...

Aha! I suppose that would explain the abundance of out-of-context clips I've seen floating off her, considering she's MIA in the actual story.

I like that too. Everyone is a bit too ready to suck your dick right from the get-go in the current version. Just once, it'd be interesting to see a gacha game like this where you aren't a super special chosen one with amnesia or you have to do a thing or two to earn the trust of everyone.
lingyang outright stealing your crownless kill and giving you shit for it was maybe a bit much, especially for chinese players who expected something different.
Lol that barely sounds like the guy currently.
Then again, he also used to look like this.

...It shows. It's a shame really because the lore itself is interesting but everything feels rather disjointed.

Apparently WuWa was alleged to have rather....curious translations.

I am still slightly upset that they erased his old backstory. Idgaf, I think it's cool so it's canon in my eyes.

Evidently, he was an artificial resonator and a victim of experimentation (would explain the tacet discord mark on his chest) plus the phantoms TDs that he summoned were remnants of his dead brothers, which would explain some of his idle animations.

Apparently the character menus themselves used to be a lot more detailed as well.

Really, it is such a shame that a lot of this was cut.

Instead of going to Inazuma as planned, I ended up going to The Chasm instead. It's a small manageable area but I don't like it regardless. However the reason is 100% due to my fear of the dark - in games. I am bit of a pussy so dark, narrow mysterious caverns tend to put me on edge.

On the flip side, the music is fantastic. I think the soundtrack for The Chasm is currently one of my favorites. And the collectible McGuffins here are pleasantly easy - sometimes.

Oh and I got Qiqi. I hear tell she's good.

Edit: typos and to the discussion of terminated service.
I will admit, I kinda hope they will keep the game alive too. Not as an online service but as a full offline game. If only because there's a lot to collect for new players and it'd suck if they were f2p and didn't have a chance to play at all. Technically speaking, you can do just fine without other players so it works alright as a single-player experience.

Considering how much time, effort, and money it took to create it, plus the massive success the game has gotten, it'd be pretty weird if they just terminated the game and all its content.

You could expect something like that from games that fail spectacularly. Like Concord. For games that don't, it'd be horrid publicity.

Also, I hear tell Chinese fans are mental. They will not take kindly to EoS. Didn't they lose their shit over costumes?

Qiqi is garbage and anyone who tells you otherwise is coping hard
The only time I would maybe consider using Qiqi over literally any other healer in the game is if she was my only healer, which if you're still in early game might be the case. She does heal fairly well but that's basically all she does. Ironically Barbara is kind of an upgrade despite being a 4* and every other 5* healer is leaps and bounds better. Especially the latest 5*, Xilonen. I highly recommend pulling for her because she is very strong and incredibly flexible team-wise. The "Geo Kazuha" memes were not a joke and the added healing is icing on the cake. And unlike Kazuha she can shred Geo RES, making DPS like Navia who already hit some stupid huge numbers now do so even more.

That being said, Genshin is a very easy game and a well-built team of just about anyone can clear most stuff, so if you really like a certain character you can build a team around them that's mostly functional. I still use Ganyu and Wriothesley as two of my toughest DPS despite Cryo being out of meta (Burnmelt is nuts though actually). At worst you'll miss out on a couple hundred primos every few weeks because the later Abyss and Imaginarium Theater floors are geared toward whales. I'm more than capable of clearing Floor 12 of the Abyss but 3-starring it is just a matter of investment at this point since the enemies just soak up damage like motherfuckers.

Noelle is available right away and also better for new players because of the talent that puts up a shield at low HP

This was actually my scenario. When i started the game qiqi was my first 5*, barbara's self wet made dragonspine unplayable and i had no bennet or even a good dps so qiqi was somehow my best healer and best attacker. She could also icebridge badly but enough to explore monstat. Nowadays i know better and havent used qiqi since forever but i still leveled and geared her out of respect, i used her as a filler cryo in one of these theaters.

I also recommend xilonen, the only scenario i don't is if you already have kazuha + zhongli and/or you're severely lacking in elemental coverage and off field enablers and those should take priority. Nahida for example is on second half she's much more game changing IMO.

Also also, if i'm allowed to flex, just got this

It's been 3000 years, and i finally got a perfect pyro goblet on top of being onset for mauvika god fucking bless. But For now xingling will hold it...

This is me being dumb dumb. For Genshin, if spiral abyss didn't have stricter timer completion from floor 11-3 onward (5 minutes left vs 7 min left). I'm pretty sure there'll be lot more people 36* easily. Then again, this is the stingiest MHY team.
Neither HSR (I believe) and ZZZ have stricter timer on certain floor onward. Like ZZZ even on highest floor is still completing before 5:00 min timer.
HSR has that issue with forcing a meta as I see people complaining on social media. ZZZ for now is relatively okay even with double banners since it's one banner for standard Atk-stunner team and one for anomaly team.

I'm being greedy with the roll, "how hard is it just to get ONE more cons" to C6 Dori. 78 rolls, ZERO, C1 Xilonen though. Next Imaginarium Theatre is Hydro, Electro and Anemo.
5.2 banners are like this, if I'm being honest, I may roll on Neuvillette banner since I have somewhat many back up artifacts for him, rather than whatever non-existence artifact for Chasca. Mostly waiting to see which banner Fischl is on. Waiting to get her C6 is too long, it has been a year since her rerun.

MoC used to be a bit more forgiving. You could 3 star in more rounds and there were 10 stages total. Then, they reduced the clearing rounds to 10 and added 2 more stages.

Star Rail doesnt have a lower limit floor but used to be way easier on release. You had like 20 cycles to get 3 stars and capped at floor 10 until they reduced the limit two times so now it's only 10 cycles and 12 floors with level 100 enemies (hsr player cap is 80). I expect them to lower the limit in ZZZ eventually or add extra floors.

Genshin is also really forcing the fucking specific units and natlan characters, with the new mimics that require elemental hits (nightsoul counts 3x). Xilonen boss is cancer if you don't bring someone who can climb the rocks and i doubt most people wil train kachina. The new boss in 5.2 has a shield that requires 75 elemental hits and i don't have kinich or mualani so it's going to suck for me. The current abyss also has the golem and centaur boss and anyone without a good geo dps or overload team will struggle with them (my navia still isnt built well rip).

I agree tho, 11-3 should be 5 minutes and at worst 12-1 should be 5 min, 12-2 4 and half and 12-3 4 minutes.

Nope, it's also a hoyo game so people started talking about it here and it sticked. ZZZ too but someone started it's own thread.

Some people talk about Wuthering waves here too since it's a lot like genshin for all intents and purposes.

im at almost 70 pity and no xilonen. i love her and her many hobbies and the demo of her playstyle is not enough. please come home.

i liked the fight scene. i really like that lil ororon dude.
this thread should get a poll : aether or lumine

I think that was one of the mobile exclusive honkai games, not genshin that happened with. Unless you mean the feminist group or whatever that managed to push for character's default designs getting changed in genshin. Most characters it was pointlss minor outfit changes tha are blink and you miss it but amber was completely fucking destroyed IMO in terms of aesthetics. They replaced all the browns with white and gold. I rambled about this back when it happened, but it looks weird and too clean for someone that's supposed to be a ranger and constantly outdoors.

Every day I feel more and more justified pulling for Itto and his claymore. Other than the pyro/cryo regisvines the golem centaur thing is probably one of the easiest bosses for me to farm. I have more trouble with the water simulacrum thing for Furina's items but generally anything with a permanent elemental aura is a pain in the ass, especially now with the Cinder City artifact set requiring you to trigger a reaction, and the only units that are currently suited to hold it are both Geo, so the set is largely useless if I can't trigger the right Crystallize until they release a Pyro or Hydro support from Natlan. At least Mualani's damage is overtuned enough that missing the cinder city buff doesn't hurt her too much.

Mualani is only going to get stronger when Mauv drops, I'm all in on her buffing nightsoul AND having busted off-field pyro.
