big news: Star Rail is literally GIVING AWAY A FREE NEW LIMITED 5* as thanks for the game awards wtf. This is not even an anniversary thing.

This is actually kinda massive.

1-It's not a shitty freebie like Aloy.
2-It's not a nerfed copium free character you must farm shards like some gachas do
3-It's not a powercreeped waifu who's getting an OP gacha weapon (like in honkai 3)

It's a NEW shiny character that is designed to be competitive and strong, with a lot of effort put into his animations (he has like 4 random statues he can summon). Now F2p players will have a strong 5* IMG dps. If you wanted to make an account, now is the best time to start.

Like, imagine if genshin got mobile game of the year and gave everyone a free Ayaka or something, that's how bizarre this is. The most genshin ever gives is 10 free fates on anniversary, it would NEVER do this.

well it's not a woman so clearly they're holding back, is what some people I've seen complain.
 
Didn't get Argenti from my soft pity but I'm now the proud owner of the floaty Ice twink I guess. Not sure if I want to keep trying for him because he seemed kinda neat with his trial and Erudition characters are great for farming and stuff like Swarm Disaster. Booba aside, Ruan Mei looks okay but I can only fit so many supports on my teams but if they tweak MoC like they usually do it'll be based around her gimmick during her banner.

Dr. Ratio being free is great because I can ignore his banner and go for Kafka's LC which I missed last time. either way it's gonna be a rough time to want to save any jade.
 
This patch is gonna be rough for my jades as well. I want Kafka's LC, Ruan Mei and Blade. However, I'm prepared to skip her and just go for Blade. I'll get Xuaeyi by default probably. The stream codes are only available for some more hours, so grab them soon.

To add, Dr. Ratio can be redeemed up to patch 2.1, which gives you roughly 4 and a half months to catch up, so definitely worth if you're a new player. You also get Lynx for free from the Pure Fiction permanent mode. I don't know if Lynx is permanent though... New Echo of War. Some QoL updates:

Wow do many of you roll for 5* signature cones? I know i did get 5* weapons in genshin but with star rail it feels like i'm never strong enough to justify rolling one so "soon" despite playing since release.

Is there any yall would recommend getting first? Once i get Ruan Mei, i've been thinking of trying blade's cone, its way better than arlan cone i'm using and it's also Clara's BiS, and maybe jingliu can use it too. On the other hand, Ruan mei's cone is also super overloaded on her (energy on wave, break, dmg boost AND free SP on ult wtf).

That's more atk and crit than my jingliu during moon mode lol. Either way be aware that Argenti gets free crit rate when attacking so by 10 stacks he gets +25% at level 10 so he's overcapping there a bit, but nothing worth changing the build.

This is only my 3rd banner cone. I got Seele's because I pulled her in the first 20 pulls of the banner, so why not. Kafka because I wanted the complete "Dommy Mommy" After that I would throw some pulls on if I managed to get the character just to build up pulls or get a few copies of some of the better 4* LC's. With Argenti I knew I had ended Hou Hou's banner in the 50's so it wouldn't be too bad to get the 65 soft pity.

I don't usually pull for LCs unless I have the character already. I did pull for Fu Xuan's because it seem like her best option for her to sustain. I also have Clara's, but no Clara yet (got it during Fu Xuan's). I got Silver Wolf's because I've had her since she first launched, and I got Argenti's as a fluke. I've also gotten Welt's and Himeko's (twice) from the standard banner.

They're really just going to announce a character named Gaming. I used to make a real effort to pronounce the characters' names as accurately as I could. I even looked up pronunciation guides for Liyue characters when I first started playing. Now I'm just going to read these names in the most American way I can.

Not to sperg too much, but this is right after announcing a character named Xianyun, which might as well be pronounced identically to Chongyun if you're not going uber Sinophile over getting the intonation right. I know it's a Chinese game made for Chinese audience, but it really feels like they don't give other languages a second thought.

Imagine there's some American game with a character called Shyster, and when it comes time to localize it for Germany you decide to just call him Scheißer because it's a close transliteration.
 
Thats more cones than i expected lol. Do yall spend money on those cones or just use spare rolls you get from monthly blessing and/or battle pass? I only bought blessing once cause i feel the game throws free rolls every patch was enough (it kinda isnt).

I also have enough glitter to buy one of the standard 5* cones but the only notable one is bronya's (which i like) and gepard which is good on any shielder but i dont use any of mine so much. Maybe if a new 5* shielder who wants taunt and EHR and i pick them, i'll buy it.

I think his name is supposed to be "Ga Ming" as in GAH-MINg but for some reason localization legit named the boy Gaming as in english.

I do both the blessing and BP. I did toss an extra $30 on Kafka's banner.

To be fair, Ratio's name comes from the mathematical meaning and Sparkle is called Hanabi in japanese and chinese so it makes no sense why they translated it literally. This is like if Raiden Shogun was changed to "Thunder General".

Gaming is kinda awful cause his name seems to be played complete straight with no joke, which can be funny in itself but also nonsensical from a marketing perspective, with mihoyo using "#Gaming" unironically on his reveal, ensuring it will be impossible to search about this boy. I wonder if it's the memes will be worth it.

It's nice to see that Westoid Genshitters no longer need to blackwash Kaeya, Xinyan, other Sumeru characters, & literally everyone in the game essentially being niggerfied in an ironically racist way. They have an actual, true minority being represented.

Love his color scheme tho. Black w/ Red & Gold accents never fails.

I think it's because of some convention that you can't write a name in two parts to not mix it up with family name. For example, Hu Tao has both family name and her given name. Also, my headcannon is that Gamings family name is Engineer.

The only 5* cones I use are the Destruction and Preservation cones from Herta's shop, but I lucked out in terms of my character rolls. (My current main teams center around Kafka, Silver Wolf, Bailu, Jingliu, Fu Xuan, and Bronya, with the last two slots open for whatever the enemy is) At this point, I still feel that getting new characters has helped me in MoC more than hyper investing into LCs, but the relic grind was definitely obnoxious.
 
Got greedy AGAIN trying to unlock candace and got navia on almost 40 pity.

Mona came before Navia and i was really happy cause she would get me an early guarantee but then navia rolled right after so no guarantee sadly. At least that Yanqing E1 is really strong if i use him but Mona C1 is bugged and weak.

Also, Cloud Retainer and Gaming animations leaked and yup, much like heizou the boy's mid design is carried HARD by his animations. He puts the hood over and pick the lion head and has multiple dances and it's easy to forget he's 4*s. Sadly i cant post it cause i legit cant find it on youtube due to his name lol.
