The NBA is so annoying to watch you can live in Boston and it’s like well yeah I’m likely buying X or Y for the Celtics but fuck me since I’m here I actually don’t get it. I have to watch it on Z because of blackouts but down in New York they get Celtics on X and Y but boy if they try and find the Knicks it’s not even on Z. Oh and btw it’s not on Z because Z no longer carries NBA in New York, it still does elsewhere, but Knicks rights are now on this new streaming platform, but only if they don’t air on this local TV channel that night.
Then people go, you know I think NBA ratings are down because of 3s. No mother fucker, I literally can’t find the games. I can Google and while scrolling through outdated info because Google can’t keep up with blackout rules I’ve found 3 different free streams and just decided to bookmark those.
WWE is going down that road. It’s not rocket science and WWE is exponentially easier then figuring out NBA rights, but it’s so unbelievably easier to just have one watchwrestling bookmarked.
Yeah, I wasn't entirely sure how the NBA handles things. But this shit is happening with every major professional sports league. The exact same things you're talking about -- broadcasting rights, blackouts, regional restrictions, etc.
I think this bullshit originated with UFC and FightPass. From what I recall, FightPass got you everything, including PPV cards. Then it was just Fight Night cards. And now you have to pay for a subscription AND for each PPV.
It's annoying as fuck and just makes me sail the seas more rather than deal with any of this nonsense.
