I dunno. He's always given 'sulky teenager' vibes to me and him being paired up with Sting for like a year didn't help.

I don't care if someone is smaller or whatever. I think having variety is important for this gay sport. I just don't get the 'aura' or 'vibe' he has.

He reminds me a lot of Vampiro, actually. A guy who was touted as a big deal and I just kinda looked at and was like 'why?'

Different tastes, I guess.
Vampiro had aura. His promos and weirdo pseudo rockstar gimmick thing was entertaining. Darby isn't Vampiro, he's not even Temu Vampiro, he's the mall goth that wears Vampiro shirts he bought in Hot Topic despite never seeing a single match of his, and gets his head shoved in toilets by guys younger than him that are twice his size.

Darby doesn't have aura, no matter how many people insist otherwise until they're blue in the face.

Idk if I could ever be a braves fan tbh. like I'm a Floridian. it feels wrong rooting for a Georgia team. but I barely like the rays as is. i'm a Mets/Mariners fan FTR
Braves were big for ages because they had a national TV deal ala the Cubs and White Sox, which meant you could watch their games every season in full on TBS, before greedy fucks caused them to leave TBS for their own premium channel ala the Soxs and Cubs, which killed TV coverage for baseball and drove off a lot of baseball fans, who now had to make do with whatever random games MLB deemed giving Fox and ESPN.

Vampiri sucked; even Norman Smiley was better than him and Smiley had a comedy cowardly jobber gimmick.

And Tony's been spinning wheels like crazy because of Darby's Everest fever fetish since he's been wanting to put the title on him since Punk got forced out but having to delay it because he refused to give up his dream to climb Everest.

Zoey Stark fucked up her knee badly. She went for a missile drop kick and for whatever reason decided to jump across the entire length of the ring, came up short and landed with her knee bent sideways at a 90 degree angle. Had to be carried to the back.

Zoey ACK.mp4

Rare footage of Kairi being in a WWE ring and not ending up being the person getting injured.

Seriously though, I don't know who the fuck this girl is but that looked really bad and I hope she's okay.

I saw a longer clip of it and Rhea just sort of sitting in the corner just making faces was awkward as fuck. The done thing when someone gets legit hurt is to provide a distraction so she should have been corner-stomping Kairi the second it happened. Training these people to only be able to hit their 5 moves is retarded when shit like this can easily happen on live TV.

I don't even know what the training set up is in NXT at the moment but they need some county-fair/bingo-hall level veterans to show their wrestlers how to fill time/distract when shit goes sideways.

It was the referee who stopped the match so Zoey could be tended to.

Another angle of it. What were both of them thinking?
I'm guessing because of 0:04 she slipped and got into a bad position but really what else would justify keeping your legs stuck out like that when doing a drop kick?
oof.mp4

I wouldn't put any of the blame on Kairi for that one. The other girl starts her springboard when Kairi is on the other side of the ring so she wasn't able to get to her in time to catch her/knock her down so that she'd land flat.

YOU'RE A FATASS!!!!

Even if Kairi is late getting into position by a few seconds, I don't understand what compels Zoey to jump. All she had to do was wait and it would have been fine.

Vampiro also had too many burritos.

My fav Vampiro Has A Live Mic moment was some random AAA show he's calling, a kid in the front row behind him, like six or seven year old little Mexican boy, Vamp flips out and sticks the mic in the kid's face and is like GO ON HUHN YOU WANNA SAY SOMETHING FUCKING SAY IT! GO ON! FUCKING PUSSY! and then took the mic back from the very confused child who clearly didn't speak English
This wasn't a promo for heat, this was only in the English feed and was just Vampiro freaking the fuck out at a kid

Another good Vampiro on commentary moment is when the production is fucking up and not playing his music.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=UK9Dgvyb0BU
yeah that was about the tone he addressed the kid in too

back to the original "so what the fuck did Mexico see in Vamp" question, he was the right guy at the right place at the right time
he was sorta the Jeff Hardy "hot to teen girls" style, goth af just as Interview With The Vampire (the Cruise/Pitt movie) and other stuff was big too
he's foreign AND he isn't from the USA so he's easier to get a pop for
he had enough of a gimmick to stand out alongside Hijo Del Masky McTrunkerson IV Jr, BUT not too much of a gimmick to have trouble getting booked in CMLL

has anything happened since WWE/TKO/EndeavourMyAss bought AAA? are they gonna merge it together or is AAA gonna stay in mexico?

anything I've head is just cubsfan/luchablog, but so recently I think

they filed for a King Of Luchadores trademark, probably the English name for Rey De Reyes
Psycho Clown is on-board for the crossover show which bodes well for his long-term future in the mix
they seem to be hastily booking a match for Alberto to defend the Megachampionship against HD Vikingo next big show, _probably_ to take the belt off Alberto and wish him the best in future endeavors
iirc there's a similarly hastily booked match for NGDs, one of whom is still awaiting trial for attempted murder on Stephanie Vaquer
it's been quipped by online wags that if anything the buried lead is "they're booking matches to get the belts off the problem talent" instead of the traditional AAA approach of just shitcanning the guy and vacating the title because lmao giving fucks about lucha belts, much less AAA belts

also in the opening days there was a hilarious bit where the press releases were talking up how AAA is staying good old AAA, and then Konnan went on his podcast the next day talking about all the ways the talent is starting to work differently to be able to get the production crew more compatible with WWE style (and, probably like, getting wrestlers in the shot, and other wacky new ideas for AAA)
iirc chatter says Borash is going to be in the loop bigtime, which gives me a LOT of hope, I recall him getting a lot of credit for that hastily-thrown-together English production of the Lucha Para Mexico charity show after TNA was already in town, and that was such a miracle he literally got good color commentary out of Vampiro

But yeah Canadian Vampire was fucking HUGE over in Mexico.

back to the original "so what the fuck did Mexico see in Vamp" question, he was the right guy at the right place at the right time

Yeah, he was a huge hit with the ladies. It's hard for some fans to wrap their minds around that, but someone with his look wasn't common at the time, not in the lucha scene.

Funny thing is Vamp clearly became washed up as the years went on, even had to deal with a divorce around the time of Wrestling Society X, and yet, he found ways to catch huge breaks that kept him going. Lucha Underground was one.
Him being a psycho on meds to keep him cool was fitting. More importantly, though, he took Pentagon Jr to a new level of "over" - yeah, it was through Vamp getting the shit beat out of him. However, many veteran luchadores aren't willing to even put over a lot of wrestlers via regular means. I roll my eyes many times when I read through indie lucha results of main events: another DQ, another double count out, etc. - so Vamp putting over Pentagon Jr the way he did was a big deal.

The retirement tour gimmick with AAA was watered down as he just kept showing up. You know how it is, luchador starts running low, then he does an interview where he's thinking of retiring or doing a retirement tour, and suddenly promoters line up to book luchador. The more interesting part is why that retirement tour happened with Vamp. Originally, AAA didn't want to keep going with him, and I think Vamp alluded to that in some interview in spanish. Then Vampiro started doing his podcast, and bam: it was a smash hit in Mexico because they didn't have hundreds of podcasts like the US wrestling scene. Suddenly, AAA wanted to do the retirement tour with him.
Wrestling!
