also apparently there's reports the guys were flinging coins at Alberto full force so it wasn't just snapping at random

I'll be controversial and say, while nowhere near the level of Mick Foley's bump off the cell, Moxley's bump is as close as you can get in the modern day. Was it stupid? Yes. Did it get some mainstream coverage? Also yes.

I had people I know asking about it or talking about that aren't really into wrestling. I will admit most had to be asked about it, it wasn't water cooler talk, but they were talking about how insane it was.

With how diminished the views have been with AEW, aka I've heard nothing about it from anyone other than wrestling fans, that has to be some sort of small win.

The reason why modern wrestling fucking sucks is because it's so santitized and corporate and clean so I don't really mind the Moxley bit.
I'll grant you that modern WWE is very corporate and sanitized "edgy" but the shit Moxley does is retarded and brain damaged. Deathmatch bullshit is going to limit their audience and growth. A nice, happy medium was early ECW (before Shane Douglas fucked off to the WWF). It was presented and booked like an old southern "rasslin'" fed (with a Northeastern attitude) by both Eddie Gilbert then Paul Heyman. They had a good amount of blood and violence, but not the silly "blood and violence for the sake of" shit they morphed into.

The last time AEW did this sort of thing was when they played the Punk footage. It got them somewhere in the 800k views and since then they constantly lost viewers and are now somewhere between 600-650k on average after being somewhere between 550-600k. These sort of moments may bring in attention but it's only short lived. Nobody of these not-so-much-wrestling-fans you talked with is going to tune into Dynamite next week. None of them will buy the next PPV and those that might tuning in to Dynmaite might end up disappointed if they don't get this sort of spot again.

While writing this I got curious about AEW's numbers on YT.

So the Mox Cope match got 909k views. A clearly outstanding number if you compare it to the rest. Which is doing absolute shit numbers, good lord. And the Mox spot didn't even have enough pull factor so the overall Dynamite highlight video would profit from.

Some of these wrestling mark youtubers are doing better numbers on YT than some of these AEW videos. Grim. Absolutely grim.

this, WWE has its issues but its still far more entertaining then any outlaw bullshit done in AEW, anyone who thinks AEW can get more popular in its current state is an absolute delusional retard, no one wants to see someones head split open with an hand axe. the worst thing on WWEs weekly TV is still more entertaining to me then the inconsistency of AEW

The Foley cage bump wasn't done at a throwaway episode of RAW. He reserved it for King of the Ring, in front of a live audience of 17,000+ people. Also, he did those type of stunts sparingly while in WWE (due in no short part to his declining health), so it was much more memorable when he busted them out for big shows. If Mox really wanted to do that stunt, he should've at least thought to do it at Revolution.

I'm still wondering why this Mox-Cope Hardcore Fest was a regular show in the first place. Shouldn't this be in...I don't know....an actual PPV? Now AEW has to top this. Next thing we know, someone's gonna be slammed in a bed of nails to satisfy the AEW Sickos.

Already happened. I don't remember the ppv but there was a cage match where they used a bed of nails and then made a joke of it after the match with Kota Ibushi backflipping onto it and no selling.

IIRC it was not a nail bed but thumbtacks that Ibushi was no selling after the show went off air.

But IIRC again theyonce had some sort of barb wire pit where Moxley landed in backwards.

ehh, barb wire isn't anything I want to interact with personally, but it's much more of a good visual and less multiple punctures in the kidneys and liver possible compared to the bat spot
which gets back to the core issue I had of "danger" vs DANGER and what actually looks good on TV
you can shiv a guy and yeah it'll kill him but it's not really a dramatic visual for a hardcore match

like that time Angel O Demonio almost killed Cuervo (PR)? That at least looked cool, I legit yelled HOLY SHIT watching the livestream

ngl I might try to catch a pirate feed of AAA tonight for the expectation of the debut of the new era of La Parka (AAA)
