That's what struck me when listening to old matches called by Ventura. Listening to him shit talk every face and pump up every heel is great.

I'm sure there are some of you around my age that were watching wrestling as a kid in the 90s. In my school, WCW was seen as the cool promotion and WWF was seen as the uncool promotion, mostly because of Sting, Hollywood Hogan, and Savage. Interestingly enough, the Mexican kids were way more into WWF than WCW and seemed to be mostly into Stone Cold and The Rock. Was it similar where y'all were growing up?
WWF was the main show my friends and I watched as kids. Stone Cold and Mankind were my guys growing up. I will say wcw/nwo revenge did blow WarZone out of the water. That was until the first smackdown game came out and over taken any hype it had.

WCW was already on its death spiral by the time Russo came along. The whole “Russo killed WCW” is a revisionist take pushed by Bryan Alvarez and RD Reynolds in their book the Death of WCW because they had a huge hate boner against him and Hogan. In reality the company was already going to shit with retarded decisions like changing WCW’s logo.

I think you mean Lanny Poffo but it wouldn’t surprise me if the Iron Sheik got paid as well. Lanny Poffo I know got paid by WCW for years simply because he was the Macho Man’s brother and he only had a few matches in house shows.
I remember cornette said it looked like a clit (the newer wcw logo) no genius was a genius idea, Lanny is the definition of a nepo hire. Moron wanted the entire poffo family to be inducted to the hall, luckily he wised up (aka got a check) and macho got inducted (even tho hogan bitch ass inducted him).

holy shit that was a great Heel Promo by Cena, he basically called out all of the fans bullshit for the past 20 years, Cody's response was good too, also Breakker vs Penta is going to be great, I hope Penta wins and they start the process of pushing Breakker into a main eventer
The whole thing is genius. We expected NWO Cena or Thuganomics or that character he described in that CVV interview. But no, we’re getting heel Fruity Pebbles Cena because that’s all we deserve.
Penta definitely needs to win that IC title at mania.

Cody is such a jobber

Been watching WCW on Youtube. How the FUCK do you go out of business with this roster?
By being the unwanted subsidiary of a massive media conglomerate that already wanted you gone 12 months after Ted Turner bought you?
WCW was always on life support and never stood a chance. The only time anybody outside Ted Turner at Turner/Time Warner/AOL liked WCW was in 1997 and 1998 when it was raking in money.
Add to that a incompetent cuckold (Eric Bischoff) who throws money around (64 million dollars lost in 2000, despite getting 10 million dollars from Electronic Arts says all) and Vince Russo who was largely responsible for the racism lawsuit.

And ultimately, the sale of WCW was a inside deal conducted by Brad Siegel and Stu Snyder. Siegel has been working against WCW since 1996. He was the guy who gave Vince McMahon the right of first refusal during the Scott Hall lawsuit.

Even if Bankrupt Bischoff never fired/drove away Steve Austin, Mick Foley, HHH, Sean Waltman, Chris Jericho and Giant, the promotion had no future. At least not as subsidiary and certainly not after Turner merged with Time Warner. It's that simple.

I shit you not, I'm serious. They brought in the Iron Sheik, well passed his prime, with something like a $200k a year contract, just to wrestle Hogan. I remember one match he did with Mike Rotunda which consisted of Sheik Pearl Harbor-ing Mike and it being over in 10 seconds. The only thing of note was Jim Ross yelling "it's a damn terrorist attack". Sheik couldn't even move around the ring. So they sent him home. This was around 1989 maybe 1990.

They accidentally renewed his contract. WCW did this kind of shit all the time. It was so disorganized.

For the life of me, I cannot fathom how Bischoff has somehow turned around his image of an absolute failure, to some sort of guru, by having a podcast shitting on Tony Khan. It's not like WCW under him was in anyway shape or form functional other than blowing obscene amounts of Ted Turner's cash. He is basically Tony before Tony existed.

Side note, Sheik in WCW was before Bischoff showed up. He was still in the AWA, coming up with bangers like the famous "Turkey on a Pole" match, to save Verne Gagne's company.

I think Cody has an 80% chance of retaining at Mania, the TKO Execs are clearly happy with Cody being the face of the company, I don't think Cody loses the belt until fans start souring on it, they kept the belt on Roman for so long because they were trying to get Roman booed because he was a cool heel, this isn't necessarily the case with Cody as hes a babyface, I think the earliest Cody loses it is Summerslam and even then probably wins it back in that scenario before the end of the year

Lanny Poffo was a good hand and a good guy to have around. He could've been really useful in a variety of roles in WCW if they had utilized him like, at all.

And WWE didn't do anything to sabotage Bischoff's attempt at buying WCW. Turner killed their TV deal and Fusient had no interest in acquiring WCW without a deal.

Sheiky Baby got into WCW because of him and Duggan getting busted in Jersey (or wherever it was) for drugs. IIRC he had 1 match with Steamboat and did a promo against Sting that went nowhere. He was never brought in to wrestle Hogan as Hulkamania was still running wild in the WWF with the Mega Powers exploding.

I'm not a huge fan of Bischoff, as he tends to downplay numerous mistakes he made over the years, despite owning up to others. He does have the perspective of having been in the business and does have a really solid mind for live TV production on a national level, something which most other wrestling commentators don't have (ie, Cornette was pretty much only ever regional, which is a very different beast.)

A lot of the shit that we take for granted nowadays was pioneered by him, like it or not.

And keep in mind, Bischoff 'turned around' his image as a result of Tony Khan taking potshots at him and pissing him off.

From what I recall, Bischoff was never involved with creative in AWA. He handled advertising sales and was an on-air talent but didn't have any real say in production (although he did learn a ton and, depending on whom you listen to, sewered the guy who mentored him.)

WCW in general was just a tire fire more or less from day one, but they were influential on a lot of shit and did try a lot of out of the box ideas (eg, World War 3, Lethal Lottery, etc.) I was never really a huge WCW fan as up in Canada we'd get a chopped down version of Nitro on Tuesdays, but I'll give the devil their due.

Little known fact but Lanny was kept on the payroll to teach the vanilla midgets how to suck their own dicks so they wouldn't have to rely on Internet smarks, but then most of the guys left for WWF and the plan got scrapped.

Bischoff was okay at his various jobs in rassling before he became Executive/Senior Vice President in charge of running WCW. Not great, not awful. Then he had one good idea - getting Turner to spend more money to lure top rasslers from WWF - and one great idea - the nWo. Regardless of how much of that idea he stole from Japan. But his natural Peter Principle-ness asserted itself as he beat the nWo idea to death, and he continued beating it to death wherever he went for the next 15 years
