Been watching WCW on Youtube. How the FUCK do you go out of business with this roster?

It's really funny watching a fan video of that match and listening to how bored and indifferent most of the crowd is for the match. AEW producers are working overtime making it sound better for TV.

The crowd is just dead. I don't know if it's fatigue because this is the second to last match, or if they're just legit bored of these two chucklefucks. There's a few 'ooh's and 'ahh's but that's it so far. :story:

Watched a bit of this and I agree with the crowd's lack of enthusiasm for that match.
It's also funny to see the video comments splooshing over the match while the live crowd is not treating it as Match of the Year.

I need to watch a bit to make an informed opinion, but I'd wager about the time when everyone was suddenly in the NWO.

The NWO should have stayed Hogan, Nash and Hall. Maybe a few other wrestlers like Waltman and the Giant to round up having aLight Heavyweight and a "monster" heel to make up for Hall when he couldn't work and to protect Nash and Hogan so they don't end up eating pins all the time (not that they put many people over to begin with, but that's neither here or there.)

I'd have to disagree with the sentiment that it was bad creative that killed WCW, that could've been fixed very easily and every promotion will have its peaks and valleys. What fucked them over was the business side of it and the Turner executives, ofcourse backstage politics also have a lot to do with that but it was ultimately bad business that's all and it could've been fixed.

The problem that WCW were multifold but I would argue one of the biggest was that too many of the talent had creative control. You can't fix creative when half the roster can pull a "yeah I'm not losing to him, brother".

This is why WCW was never able to develop new talent, why the NWO ended up with like 99% of the roster in it (this is how the big names kept the locker room in line), and you had the same people doing the same story arcs that never went anywhere.

I think a lot of people sort of romanticize how good WCW was towards the end. It was bad. The belts would change in like an hourly rate. You didn't want to get a PPV because half the time, there was no coherent lead up so you had no idea what the matches were even going to be.

WCW had two things going for it at its demise. It's tape library and it's access to a national TV deal. When they lost TV, it's value to any normal investor went out the window. You add in some of the awful contracts they had with talent. Like the Iron Sheik got paid for years without being on tv I think because WCW kept forgetting he existed and would auto renew his contract.

I'm still amazed how cheap Vince got it, but then again, who else was going to buy a wrestling company with no TV and a massive roster and payroll?

They call themselves "smarks" yet aren't smart enough to see how retarded they are.
I have a far higher respect for Casuals then I do Smarks, especially those who self-describe as such, at least Casuals can just enjoy the show without the extreme overanalyzing and nit-picking smarks usually do

Hogans fingerpoke of doom killed wcws chances of ever winning the war but didnt kill it. Russo did
WCW was already on its death spiral by the time Russo came along. The whole “Russo killed WCW” is a revisionist take pushed by Bryan Alvarez and RD Reynolds in their book the Death of WCW because they had a huge hate boner against him and Hogan. In reality the company was already going to shit with retarded decisions like changing WCW’s logo.

I think you mean Lanny Poffo but it wouldn’t surprise me if the Iron Sheik got paid as well. Lanny Poffo I know got paid by WCW for years simply because he was the Macho Man’s brother and he only had a few matches in house shows.

The only compliment I can give to Kyle Fletcher is that at least he got a clue and hit the weights.

I miss having a pure heel commentator in WWE that would side with Cena 100% and chew out Michael Cole for his grandstanding.

By letting the middle three guys in the bottom row do whatever they wanted and allowing them to destroy morale, insult the company and product on TV constantly, and letting one of them book the show to downplay everyone on the top row and make them look stupid constantly until all the fans walked away.

That's what struck me when listening to old matches called by Ventura. Listening to him shit talk every face and pump up every heel is great.

I'm sure there are some of you around my age that were watching wrestling as a kid in the 90s. In my school, WCW was seen as the cool promotion and WWF was seen as the uncool promotion, mostly because of Sting, Hollywood Hogan, and Savage. Interestingly enough, the Mexican kids were way more into WWF than WCW and seemed to be mostly into Stone Cold and The Rock. Was it similar where y'all were growing up?

holy shit that was a great Heel Promo by Cena, he basically called out all of the fans bullshit for the past 20 years, Cody's response was good too, also Breakker vs Penta is going to be great, I hope Penta wins and they start the process of pushing Breakker into a main eventer
