In his era, yeah, Swagger wasn't much.
In today's era, he'd be an upper midcard guy, because standards are that fucking low.

I didn't mind Swagger in WWE. His gimmick probably would have worked better a year or two later, but Dutch was a good pairing with him. (Incidentally, I hope he pulls through, and fuck Meltzer.)

holy shit you're right. he held it three times. NONE of these I remember either
Yeah, it speaks volumes about him. I only know he held the US Title in WCW for half a year due to a random match he had. Never pegged him to be on that level back then, considering WCW had Rude, Austin and a few up and comers floating around then.

Was Goldust ever World Champion material?
If he stayed clean into the era that WWE had two world titles, I could see him being a one month transitional champion on Smackdown, but not the guy.
AEW legitimately broke him. I gave him the benefit of the doubt for a while that he was treating them as objectively as he could, but it became clear once their ratings and attendance started to slide that that simply wasn't the case and that I was being a retard for thinking otherwise. I'm not one of those people who thinks he has a secret financial stake in the company, or that he is/was being paid off by Tony. What I DO think happened is that when AEW got off to a hot start, he felt vindicated after people pushed back and mocked him for years for gushing over Kenny, the Bucks, Okada, and really the modern Japanese style as a whole. For my money, people first began turning on Dave en masse when he started to hand out those six and seven start ratings to NJPW and NXT Black & Gold matches, and I think that still sticks in his craw. But here was a promotion that was built on that style and it was hot. From his perspective, he proved everyone wrong.
For decades Dave has been telling people he knows what good wrestling is. He told everyone Hogan vs Andre was shit and WWF & WCW/TNA were shit. He said Pro Wrestling Guerrilla was how wrestling should be booked and all those guys needed was a bigger platform and it's be successful because it's far better wrestling. Then they got a bigger platform in AEW and it worked for a while, but it declined in popularity because what they do is the wrestling equivalent of a cake with too much icing and not enough body. You might enjoy a slice or two, but after that it gives you a stomach ache. So now everyone knows Dave, in fact, does not know what the fuck he's talking about, it's not as easy as he implied it was to book a show and maybe guys like Bischoff aren't so stupid and popular wrestling is just really hard to book.

The saddest part is Dave didn't directly say any of the things I just wrote out, they are just the implication of the things he's been saying over the years, but he's s fucking autistic he'd go, "Nu-uh didn't say that," not understanding that people can draw conclusions you didn't explicitly state from your words and actions. For example, if I give every popular movie one star and then give these little independent films five stars the implication is clearly I don't think big studios know how to make a good movie while these little arthouse studios do. If one of those little arthouse studios makes a big budget film, it gets wide distribution and it flops and most people hate it, clearly my taste in movies doesn't align with the general public. Should I be taken seriously as a movie critic at that point? Can you honestly say one of my reviews is going to accurately tell you if you'll like a movie or not?

No, but at that time in 96 the WWF was bare when it came to main event level talent, so I think they could have put Goldust in a program with HBK. It would have made sense at that point in time as well, it would have been a better version of Goldust's feud with Razor Ramon imo, at least it would have been better than what HBK did with Davey Boy.

I know Shawn and Goldust had a few house show and dark matches. Would Shawn have had the same feelings Scott Hall did about being in some gay panic angle though? I think Scott didn't like his son getting teased at school about it.

Konosuke saved AEW from AIDS.

Edit: Sorry for double posting.
Making it that competative had me cringing the whole time. Takeshita made Atom Smol look like a tiny gay baby and that match should have been a Brock vs Kofi tier squash.

Also the AEW crowd is so small you can hear one guy heckling wheeler yuta hard.

Edit: LMAO THAT GIANT SWING

Debatable. Shawn was fine being an edgy faggot, but had a short temper and it didn't take much to send him into a tizzy. As long as Goldie didn't step over some arbitrary boundary Shawn may or may not have even explained, it'd be fine.
