In hindsight they should have done the following: at SS, Shawn and Brett never happens because as soon as they get into the ring, Kane (who just debuted IIRC the previous PPV and had been around for a couple of weeks at that point) shows up and just completely massacres BOTH men. Brett gets handcuffed to the ring and forced to watch Shawn get massacred and basically begging and pleading for Kane to stop murdering Shawn. And once Shawn's been murderized, Brett gets his beating and is massacred too and you have Paul Bearer forcing a ref to count to three as Kane stands on Brett's body to win the world title.

Kane beats Ken Shamrock at the December PPV, then Shawn comes back and wins the belt back at Royal Rumble due to Undertaker interferes with the match to cost Kane the belt.

We then get Kane/Undertaker and Shawn/Austin at WM '98 and afterwards, Shawn gets laid out by HHH on the Raw after Mania where Shawn reveals that Hunter conspired with Paul Bearer and Kane to launch the Survivor Series Massacre on Brett and Shawn.
I 100% guarantee Mirrornoir painted all the trunks of his wrestling figures flesh coloured so they can have sex.

In general I agree with your assessment of Meltzer, but I believe he genuinely loves this videogame style of wrestling that AEW, and Japan does. He thinks this shit is the end all, be all of wrestling.
I'm not sure he's on the take, but he is, very, emotionally invested in AEW.

I guess I should've said on the payroll/knows personally as he's always treated those who talk to him with kid gloves. Jericho being the other very obvious example outside of Omega/the Bucks.

EDIT: Also, when I say that Meltzer lacks a complete understanding, I mean that yeah, the workrate/strong style shit he enjoys so much is something he knows inside and out. But I don't think he has a great grasp of Mexican wrestling (our resident lucha fans can confirm/deny) or, honestly, really anything that isn't old school NWA or puro. Like, say, joshi, campier stuff like Chikara or ECW (from what I recall he more or less hated/hates hardcore wrestling.)

I always got the sense he wasn't a big fan of WWF/E but was obligated to talk about it. Like, if you were a baseball journalist and only wanted to talk about Japanese baseball teams and not even acknowledge the MLB. As a result, a lot of the more 'sports entertainment' shit he doesn't care for/understand. Which is weird, cos Omega and the Bucks brought a ton of that to NJPW.

And yeah, I would agree that he's incredibly emotionally invested with AEW. Dude's 65 and this is realistically the last chance he's gonna have at seeing the aforementioned old school NWA/puro shit he loves so much get a big stage. If only he could've been like most other autistic men of his generation and gotten into model trains.

Does Who Killed WCW warrant a watch or is it just the same old same old accounts and stories?
Does it at least present them in an entertaining way or did the whole theory that's going to be tainted by The Rock/TKO and show everyone not in WWE in a negative light come true?

They do interview some new people like Brad Siegel and Ted Turner's son Teddy and some of the other Turner guys. Some if you want to hear some of their perspectives it might be more interesting. Based purely on the first episode it does feel like they might go more in-depth than some of the others that acted like it was purely the bad wrestling that killed them.

I'll be curious to see if they get an interview with Jamie Kellner, I don't know if he ever spoke on his decision to axe WCW when he took over at the time.

First it's girl-on-girl kissing and now this. I guess it's one of Tony's fantasies for that night.

Wear a sports bra or something to cover those nipples, girl.
If this is the route they want to go down, they need to find someone like WCW era Madusa... Huge fake tits, no sports bra to hold them in place, and then they proceed to bounce and jiggle during the match to the point where it stops looking hot, and instead looks uncomfortable and silly. That'll put asses in the seats!

There is nothing old school NWA about what AEW currently presents, and by Dave's own admission, it's not even as good as the Japanese video game wrestling he loves so much. I suspect it's more that Tony Khan is he first promoter to actually take him (Dave) seriously, as opposed to every other wrestling promoter who ever lived, that, correctly, treated him like the retard and/or useful idiot he is.

Two retards banding together, one's a literal special child and one's a useful idiot equals entertainment for the IWC. Lots of lolcow milk to squeeze from them at this point.

I'd argue there was a bit of that early on, but ya, it's since gone by the wayside. But for Dave, he's in too deep, lol.

Ricochet has told WWE he's leaving when his deal runs out.

I presume get relegated to the 60 second twitter show was the final straw.

I've been downloading a bunch of ECW 90s era CAWs for WWE 2k24. I've also decided to refamiliarize myself with that era of ECW. Sooo... I gave the FOREVER HARDCORE ECW documentary a watch. I had to laugh. Near the beginning, they are talking about Eddie Gilbert as a booker (He booked ECW when they were still Eastern Championship Wrestling) and some (((pimply faced wrestling journo))) appears to trash what Gilbert was doing. Paraphrasing... "ECW was not a good product when Eddie was booking. He was booking it like a southern wrestling fed"... something along those lines. Ok, but what the fuck did these simpletons think they were watching when Heyman took over?!? Heyman booked it exactly like a southern rasslin promotion. The basic difference was Gilbert reused specific memphis gimmicks, whereas Heyman used a southern rasslin booking style, but with a northeast attitude and talent.

Of course, the main difference was the in ring talent. Old southern rasslin had professionals who knew what they were doing, and ECW, with several notable exceptions, had a bunch of indie shitters, botch machines and guys who couldn't make it anywhere else. I watched alot of that shit, as it happened, and to this day, I fail to grasp why ECW is held in such high regard. It had it's moments, for sure, but there was lots and lots of garbage in the mix. Philadelphians are literal retards, lol.

Why is still a fucking question? The Time Warner killed WCW.

Time Warner wanted nothing to do with wrestling. If WCW was profitable, Time Warner would have shit canned them.

Also, Shark boy better watch his fucking mouth.

Does the video go over how TBS were moving WCW money around so nobody really knows how profitable WCW was?

It just never ends. I love Bret. I'm a Hitman mark like literally every rasslin fan who isn't a retard, though not as much of a mark for him as he himself is. He's given people the best matches they ever had in their careers and could carry absolute train wrecks like a cracked out Bulldog to a genuinely legendary match. But holy shit dude. FilthyFrankItsTimeToStop.mp4

I loved when Scott Hall talked about Bret's house in an interview when he was talking about why he left WWF. A shrine of Bret, made by Bret, for Bret.
