Pre Show
Jerry Lawler made fun of Ted Cruz. I'm down with that. Otherwise, the best part of the panel was when Booker asked Renee if her was made from the fragments of Chris Jericho's jacket. This conjures up images of Ambrose, in character, sewing Renee this dress as they sit together at home. It's really quite adorable.
The Dudley Boyz Segment.
The fact that these two got booed in 2016 shows how great they are as heels. Then Big Cass slaughtered them. Hey, putting over new talent and all and Cass has this weird charisma to him where he speaks really slow but in these really witty riddles. Oh yeah and he's still almost as over as he was with Enzo. Future World Heavyweight Champion with this booking.
Baron Corbin vs Dolph Ziggler.
Somehow, despite the writers' best efforts to sink Ziggler deep beneath Tartarus, he still is more over than Roman Reigns. Anyway, the match was quick, Ziggler sold like a motherfucker and the No DQ stipulation meant nothing until Corbin delivered a low blow and ended it with an End of Days. God sake get these two further up the card.
(On another hilarious note, JBL got the biggest pop of the night when he came out to do commentary at the end of the pre show. Yes, the COMMENTATOR is more over than the entire roster. Now that's what I call good booking. Oh yeah and he was pretty terrible as well.)
Main Show
Usos vs Gallows and Anderson
Good match, although the end to the match, with the Usos lying broken and battered, did not in fact play into the main event at all.
Of course it didn't.
Kallisto vs Rusev
Wow they buried the US title didn't they? The best bit of this match wasn't actually in the match itself, but on the pre show where Rusev and Lana answered tweets from people. Tom Phillips, bless him, was eviscerated by Lana and Rusev's cutting answers and it goes to show that the two of them are fucking fountains of charisma.
Anyway, Rusev beat Kallisto to death and then put him in the Accolade for the submission. Great.
The New Day vs the Vaudevillains
The New Day's promo was awesome. The Vaudevillains are steadily becoming more and more over as heels as this feud progresses, which is good. The match seemed a tad short, but it was a fine tag match indeed. A theme of this PPV was the excellent near falls, there was a spot where the Vaudevillains killed the rest of the New Day and hit Xavier with the Whirling Dervish. I, and many of the fans, actually thought it was over but Xavier kicked out at two and four fifths. Then Kofi cheated and they won. Fine by me, if the New Day are still popular and selling merch, keep the belts on them.
The Intercontinental Fatal Four Way.
Four Words. Match of the Night. This match was well paced, perfectly executed, all four men absolutely killed each other for this match that had moment after moment after moment. In the end, the Miz stole another win and I'm fine with that, after all it makes me despise him even more.
The Asylum Match
This match went too long and had the misfortune of falling right after the Match of the Year candidate.
But this match was still great, because Chris Jericho played a heel perfectly here. His entrance was more somber and he stared at the Asylum nervously. The best bit was when he shouted at the ref to open the door and called him a stupid idiot.
Another problem was that the match itself was repetitive because they kept climbing up to grab weapons, get grabbed, fall down and the weapon would be used. There were some bright spots though, Ambrose using the mop on Jericho, Ambrose showing of his nunchuck skills and of course, when the thumbtacks came out.
This match, naturally, ended the way it should have done, Ambrose catching Jericho's codebreaker and slamming him back first into the tacks, then pulling him into a Dirty Deeds for the pin.
And then after the match Jericho kept screaming at people and beating up the ref who tried to pull the tacks out. God I love Jericho. hopefully he and Ambrose will part now though so he can put over other up and comers.
Charlotte vs Natalya
Fuck sake. This match was not as good as the Payback match, nor was the finish any less nonsensical. Dana Brooke coming out as Ric Flair was....a twist, but I don't quite know what purpose it served, unless they want Dana to be Charlotte's hired help. Frankly, I don't mind because Dana has shown herself to be quite charismatic when given the chance, so I'm hoping she can carve out her own legacy. In any case, this should probably end the feud between the two of them and Charlotte can kill some time before Sasha Banks is ready to take the title.
Roman Reigns vs AJ Styles.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Sorry, force of habit.
Anyway, this match was awesome. AJ made Roman look like a monster, especially when Roman swung him from side to side into the Ring Apron like a ragdoll. Roman made AJ look resilient as well, AJ took a spear, two table bumps and still kicked out. It was a fun fun match.
And then bullshit.
First of all the Usos were apparently okay after being destroyed. Then Roman took a Boot of Doom, two Styles Clashes, one of which was onto a chair, and many chair shots and kicked out, but AJ, after getting in about five minutes of straight offence, took one spear and lost instantly. Personally it didn't really do it for me.
And then....
SETH FREAKING ROLLINS HELL YEAH!
