The Blue Blazer gimmick was just the latest in whatever humiliation rituals Vince was wanting Owen to go through and was a go nowhere gimmick on a bridge to nowhere. Even if he had stuck around, Austin would've likely have kept him waaaaaay down in the midcard fucking around with Val Venis or whoever due to the bad blood over his neck injury, so regardless of how you sliced it, Owen was fucked if he had stuck around.
I'm pretty sure Owen was doing the Blue Blazer up in Canada before he went to WWF, but I'm not versed in Canuck wrestling lore to be sure.

I can't fucking stand MJF anymore.
Better late than never, welcome to the hater train. :shit-eating:
MJF fall from grace is something that should be studied, he should've jumped the ship to WWE when he had the chance.
MJF never had any grace.

There's rumors of Jericho maybe popping up in WWE. Things are dire in AEW if he's willing to jump ship.
No, he's probably pissy after being told his day in the sun is over.

Jericho's last run as The Learning Tree was dogshit, crowds were chanting "Please Retire" even in Calgary. But WWEtards will do the same as they did with Cody andd act like he's amazing if he shows up there.

Jericho was pretty much a mid-card act before he disappeared a few months ago. AEW got their mileage out of him in the early days and then people got sick of him and his "vortex" so he's no great loss.

He'll get his entrance pop at the Rumble next year and that's what WWE is all about now so it'll be seen as a huge success.

It’s a fucking comedy at this point that somebody got to him at the exact wrong time. He was so happy to talk about how John Cena and the undertaker were on low rated shows and to argue with everybody on Twitter when it was just them versus NXT and now it’s an actual battle of WWE fucking them over from every direction, WWE can think of and he’s taking the high road now???? I don’t get it. I almost think he might genuinely be scared and that maybe nobody got to him. He just panicked.

I understand there’s not much AEW can do. But if ever there was a time to try to do literally anything it’s when WWE is attacking you openly repeatedly for an entire like year and a half and is very obviously trying to box you out from any sort of TV or streaming deal the thing keeping your company alive.

And somehow people are complementing this and saying this is the correct direction. There’s a middle ground. You don’t need to be a raving fucking lunatic, but you don’t need to be a pussy.

The Reddit thread is a downright celebration of Tony just laying down and taking it from WWE.

WWE is trying to freeze you out of media coverage? Don’t make headlines that’ll show ‘em!

I genuinely feel like I’ve entered a fucking bizarro universe looking at everyone acting like Tony is doing the correct thing. WWE is very publicly taking any and all partners and media coverage AEW could even sniff at and a portion of the fan base is super excited to not fight it in anyway. WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING.

Yeah, the Blue Blazer was an old gimmick of his and he even wrestled in WWF and had a match against Mr. Perfect at Wrestlemania V.

The '99 Blazer was basically being done as a parody of 80s Hulk Hogan (say your prayers, train, eat your vitamins, etc.) as well as a sort of proto-RTC type character (he was feuding with the Godfather because he was immoral) and the shit with the harness was more taking the piss off of both Hogan and Bret (notably due to how Bret views/viewed himself as a hero in Canada and his disdain for the trashier parts of Attitude Era WWF.)

Funnily enough, Owen would've been fine with the gimmick in current year, as evidenced with similar comedic acts like Penta.

(That was a joke.)

I think people are not factoring in Owen's mentality towards the business at that point. The dude's talent was like any other and he gave a 110% to whatever gimmick was put in front of him, but he was more or less just in it to keep a roof over his family's head. I think the furthest he would've gotten had the incident not occurred was a brief run for the world title being settling into a mid card/upper mid card act. I don't see him as the sort that would complain to Vince that he isn't getting his due when he was being paid well enough to spoil his wife and kids.

Yeah, scuttlebutt is that the contract he was on was his last contract and he was going to leave the business as his kids were getting to be of an age where he wanted to be with them more.

Oh right, they used to be hot. What the hell happened? Must be the "new toy syndrome."

They blew through all of the "dream matches" they wanted to do and now they just bury The Outrunners and/or thrown together teams of singles guys who are advancing their own storylines.

Plus, FTR Gun being a fucking idiot seems to have made TK a bit wary of making them a bigger focus.

Ah the old Sting screw job. A carny even beyond the grave huh Terry?

Tony is realizing he bit off more than he could chew and is having a giant shit sandwich because of it. His fan are realizing this and are coping and seething.
