I keep forgetting that Kota is actually older than Naito.

aew wasting danielson and punk over a fucking hangman page title run is one of the most idiotic things that they have donehe's basically a tag/trios guy for now, in a "violent tough guy" faction with jon moxley and william regal. it's a dream faction really, but i miss when he was a singles guy in AEW and just having insanely good matches more or less every time he came out.
i have mixed feelings about cm punk in-ring, but punk's attempt to don a similar "best bout machine" mantle has been better than i would have anticipated. that said, he's simply not on danielson's level.... not sure anybody is.
i feel like an idiot complaining about the BCC but i kind of miss moxley as a singles guy too. i hope we get some meatier trios matches with them soon, not just glorified squashes.
They waited too long to pull the trigger on Hangman. I know he had a kid, but AEW tapes once a week and he didn't even need to appear every week. They could have worked an accommodating schedule out between them. He should have won the title and finished up that storyline with the Elite in Summer 2021 so we got a reset for Punk, Danielson & Cole coming in and one of them takes the title in Fall 2021, probably Cole because he would have had the rest of Undisputed Era as heaters and Danielson or Punk could have chased him and eventually taken the title. Hangman could have been a transitional champ between two eras of AEW, but instead the only time anyone's given a shit about his reign is when he wrestled Danielson.aew wasting danielson and punk over a fucking hangman page title run is one of the most idiotic things that they have done
It’s nuts. Ibushi looks 23 years old and he’s like 40.I keep forgetting that Kota is actually older than Naito.
I saw luchablog retweet Phil crying, was wondering what crawled up his ass this time. I assumed it was Corney.Bischoff and Punk went at it on social media, after Punk got triggered by Bischoff (correctly IMO) pointing out how AEW are struggling to expand outside of a smark audience.
Anyone claiming that AEW is performing better than prime WCW are deluding themselves. An argument can be made for the overall product being stronger, but WCW actually posed a threat to the WWF's existence. AEW just represent a portion of the wrestling fandom who still mostly watch WWE also.
You mentioning Phil crying made me realize this: CM Punk is the Kevin Smith of wrestling. Both had great hits when they first started (Smith: Mallrats, Clerks, Dogma. Phil: ROH and his WWE run). Both tried to reinvent themselves to near career-ruining failure (Smith with his horror movie shit, Punk with the UFC), and then both tried to get back to what they were famous for by rehashing the greatest hits of yesteryear (Smith with Clerks 2, Jay and Silent Bob Stike Back. Punk with his shot-for-shot retelling of classic Bret Hart matches).I saw luchablog retweet Phil crying, was wondering what crawled up his ass this time. I assumed it was Corney.
Strike Back was fun as an ending to the Jersey setting, especially for Mark Hamill near the finish. The absurdity of the nerd content of the early movies climaxing in Joker/Luke showing up with a lightsaber that is also a bong was a good high point (heh) to go out on.You mentioning Phil crying made me realize this: CM Punk is the Kevin Smith of wrestling. Now both are weird old men crying about women's rights or some liberal shit idk.
maybe Bret Hart?Is there a bigger mark for themselves than CM Punk?
Did Bret Hart get into shoot fighting and get his shit pushed in, too?maybe Bret Hart?
the idea that Octagon brings gun-toting thugs with him means he probably doesn't totally believe the hype, and he seems to be the high watermark of SAY IT TO MY FACE MOTHER FUCKER in lucha
I don't think so but Hart did throw a spaz about NO HAMLET CAN'T DIE THIS WEEK WE'RE IN MY HOMETOWNDid Bret Hart get into shoot fighting and get his shit pushed in, too?
I don't ask about Octagon 'cause I know some luchadors are fucking wild. It's a whole different world than rassling.
I mean, I liked Red State, but I’m mildly curious how much less I’d like it if Smith had the budget to do the ending he wanted. Tusk was fucking weird, we don’t talk about Yoga Hosers. That said, it’s telling how much Smith and Punk’s careers mirror each others. Don’t know how I didn’t notice that before now…Smith with his horror movie shit
Bret is by far the biggest self Mark most anyone can think of. How fitting, considering how much Punks AEW matches are Bret Hart tributes…Is there a bigger mark for themselves than CM Punk?
He never had a chance thanks to GoldbergDid Bret Hart get into shoot fighting and get his shit pushed in, too?
Should note that the "Zombie" and other gimmicky jobbers in Nu-ECW for the first couple of months was 100% network mandated. Sci-Fi Channel is infamous for demanding any and all show on it's network having to have something sci-fi/fantasy/horror in it's programming (MST3K found out that issue the hard way for an example) and was basically forced to put ECW on the channel against their will by their corporate overlords.I'm not even sure myself what I'm looking for but it wasn't what Raw was serving up cold and moldy last night that's for sure. I come from the Monday Night Wars and stayed around until 2005 when I just completely gave it all up. I'm sure I loosely followed afterwards but not nearly to the extent I did beforehand. I was big into ECW too until that died. The good one, not the abomination that was WWE's version. I tuned out the moment "The Zombie" came out and knew they were mocking it all and never looked back.
But I always did appreciate the New Generation era even if I wasn't really able to catch it in its heyday, and if I did I was too young to remember it. I do remember having some In Your House vhs though that I think was some compilation. Whatever it was I think it had a Savio Vega strap match on it. I think I might have caught the tail end of it all. And I remember watching Vader on Boy Meets World and I knew he was Vader so I'm sure I was watching in some capacity.
But anyways, I'm not really looking for anything resembling the Attitude Era because that was just the perfect storm, never to be recreated. I suppose I just want a promotion that puts on good matches where they actually take believable bumps and can sell a move worth a damn, and it isn't overly-choreographed. Decent storylines that you can get invested in, and somewhere where the gold still has some prestige and meaning to it and it's a big deal to have it around your waist. Just basic bitch shit really that your run-of-the-mill mark might look for. One of my biggest gripes watching Raw last night was I got the vibe that the entire match, every match, was predicated on and centered around shitty spots. I mean ECW matches were pretty much a spot fest too, but the matches themselves were still pretty good, to me at least.
I've seen complaints that AEW matches are overly-choreographed too, something about The Young Bucks? But like I said I guess I'll see tomorrow. I'm at least willing to give them a shot, because surely they can't put on a worse show than what I saw on Raw and will probably see on Smackdown... surely.
MLW sounds interesting from what you described, I'm going to give them a look.
To touch on your first paragraph too as an aside, I was wondering what the fuck the Bargain Bin Ultimate Warrior was all about. Then of course he just gets beat up. Also, I was shocked that there were about 3 or 4 dq's and about 2 or 3 squash matches. The fuck was that all about? Is this a regular occurrence? How they haven't figured out that a 3 hour time slot only hinders their product and compels them to do stupid shit like this to fill up segments is beyond my intellect I guess. The advertisement money must be too good to turn down at the risk of shitting out a subpar product week in, week out.
Adam Cole: HBK’s progeny
Dax Harwood: Bret Hart super fan.
I’m thinking Cole wins the whole damn tournament which would be hilarious to have the progeny of HBK win a tournament with the name Hart in it.
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was still good though. Punk so far hasn't done a Masters of the Universe: Revelations yet. He's coming dangerously close though. You mentioning Phil crying made me realize this: CM Punk is the Kevin Smith of wrestling. Jay & Silent Bob Strike back and Clerks II both came before the horror movie shit. He's thinking of Jay & Silent Bob Reboot and Clerks III. It's confusing because he keeps rehashing his two good ideas over and over.Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was still good though. Punk so far hasn't done a Masters of the Universe: Revelations yet. Well Kevin Smith is still trying to coast off the fact that he made Aquaman a good read in the early to mid 90s when it comes to comics. It's been 30 years since that time.Jay & Silent Bob Strike back and Clerks II both came before the horror movie shit. He's thinking of Jay & Silent Bob Reboot and Clerks III.
