It exposed me to Blanchard's typology and a lot of the hard-to-swallow truths about the transgender community, namely that there is a clear delineation between transgender people based on sexual orientation i.e. AGP vs. homosexual transsexual (plenty of studies lend credence to Blanchard's typology but the real smoking gun, for me personally, was James Cantor's MRI study). Prior to this I just thought they were a group of odd but relatively harmless people who probably got exposed to too much estrogen or testosterone in the womb which turned their male brain into a lady brain or vice-versa (this is actually true for homosexual transsexuals to an extent, but they are a minority within the trans community, and regardless the structure of the homosexual-transsexual brain more closely mirrors the structure of (cis) homosexual males as opposed to heterosexual females).
That aside, I'm still not 100% sure how to approach this topic policy-wise. One of the few things I'm adamant about is not enabling transition in kids under 18, mainly because most of these kids are homosexual trannsexuals and will more likely than not become comfortable with the gender they were born as at some point in their adolescence, which we have plenty of evidence in favor of from Kenneth Zucker's research. The other thing that bothers me is the (admittedly TERF) talking point of the consequences of predatory AGP's being allowed into women's spaces. I've tried to keep a nuanced understanding of AGP, namely that it's more akin to a full-blown sexual orientation rather than a simple fetishistic disorder, that the process from transvesitic fetishism -> MtF is long, complex, unique, and not exactly a concious "choice" of the autogynephile
But at the end of the day: the primary motivation for transition among AGP's across the board is the steady care packages of dopamine they derive from the sexual thrill of 'becoming' a woman. This means that everything from someone "correctly gendering" them to the act of them buying tampons at CVS is a sexual act that arouses them. Similarly, joining an all women's gym or a women's only spa is also an inherently erotic activity for the AGP, wherein they make people (very often cis women, who AGP are primarily sexually attracted to) unwitting performers in their inverted sexual fantasies.
Now comes the hard part. AGP's throw full-blown narcissistic rage-fits when their preferred "gender identity" is not acknowledged in exactly the way they want it to be. If an AGP is denied access to a women's space, or is "misgendered" etc., events can transition (heh) into a violent, possibly deadly encounter depending on how deep the narcissistic wound you gave them digs into their ego. This is why I'm skeptical of the types of 'compromise' that many sexologists are willing to pursue when it comes to the Trans Question. Blanchard suggests that we grant AGP's a partial legal recoginition when it comes to their preferred gender identity, i.e. changing gender on license, letting people who are accepting of AGP sexuality humor AGP's as much as they want. But this will also be met with a ban on AGP's regarding strictly-women's spaces, as well as a more widespread social understanding of how autogynephilic sexuality operates. While I think this proposal is the perfect balance between respect for the AGP's preferred way to live, as well as individual-rights to not unwittingly be dragged into someone else's sexual fantasies, this will never be accepted by the mainstream in any significant way. AGP's simply will not stand for anything other than "treated EXACTLY like natal women under all circumstances" or else you're committing a heckin erasure/bigoted violence.
And this is a shame too, because Blanchard is a world-renowned sexologist with an h-index of 65, but despite the widespread acceptance of his ideas in the field he's been working in for 4+ decades, the mainstream is far more skewed towards manichean moralism when it comes to discussions on this topic, i.e. trans people are an oppressed group and the activists behind the movement are always right no matter what. It's difficult to communicate any of these ideas in a public setting without getting death threats galore, just look at Jesse Singal. And I know this post is an autistic, adderal driven wall of text so I'm gonna close this up nicely: Trans people are humans just like you and me, they deserve respect, and in many cases someone not being allowed to transition is disasterous for their mental health, but at the same time it is simply not acceptable to let unwitting normies become part of their sexual roleplaying. We need to figure out a way to honor the dignity of AGP's while also communicating that it's completely fucked to drag oblivious normies into their fetishistic roleplay
