It really is great, because she goes on dates as a man and basically says women have all the power and they can crush men with one word. She's not bragging about it, she's really just stating what it is matter of factly. She says (obviously) that men have to do the hard part of asking women out, basically going to a complete stranger and not trying to make yourself look like a retard (on a side note, I think this is where a lot of cat calling comes from. Those first words are so difficult, most men just don't even bother and know they're not going to get with a woman with what they say, but still want to express it in some way. Its basically a response to suppression. That doesn't make it any less retarded or creepy, but it explains why that is). Then she goes on a date and the woman is completely hostile and then apologizes when she reveals she's a woman. And then she goes on dates and is surprised that women don't want a 'soft' man but a manly man. Its basically everything everyone has been saying, but is ignored because men don't get to talk about...well, anything it seems. Even themselves.

I was discussing how the directors of The Matrix became trans and suddenly declared the film a trans allegory, and I got this response. "One does not "become" trans, you are born trans. In a speech given by Lana years ago she tells how she knew all her life, so yes, The Matrix always was a trans allegory."

You could say that just like the matrix was years ahead of scifi at the time the wachowkies were also years ahead of other nerds by trannymaxing before it was even a thing

That's strange, because I remember it being discussed just a few year after the film was out. It could have been interesting as a plot point, but I doubt the would have executed it all that well, because they would have pushed it with a particular agenda in mind. That makes for crap films.

Everyone saw it as this deep, meaningful allegory for discovering your unique identity and extracting yourself from an oppressive, hostile society that wanted everyone to conform, but it's as superficial as any other hollywood production. The original plot had humans being used as data processors, basically giant parallel computers, but some studio exec (or possibly even the wachowskis) thought that the plebian mass wouldn't be able to understand the idea, even though it was already a fairly common science fiction trope. The whole using humans as an energy source thing was added to dumb things down.

I was wowed by The Matrix when it came out, but in retrospect I prefer The Thirteenth Floor. It came out around the same time and covered a lot of the same ground, but didn't try and sell itself as a philosophical treatise on existence. It asked questions about identity and reality, but unlike The Matrix, it didn't try and sell you on a particular set of lifestyle choices as the answer to those questions.

That's the problem with The Matrix, in the end. It wants to be a big and meaningful film about identity, society, and all that jazz, but it also wants to be a recruitment tract for, essentially, the anarchist destruction of the existing order. The Man is bad and you're an imprisoned slave of capitalist oppression, so do weird things to your brain, wreck shit, and overthrow The Corporate Overlords so you can live your true and full life.

Sounds pretty deep until you realise it's also the plot of Office Space.

The Matrix was a fairly run of the mill cyberpunk story influenced by Japanese anime. The story itself is kind of goofy and it's full of plot holes. The AI uses human bodies to produce electricity because the sun has been blocked off due to a nuclear war....wut?
