...if they were intercepting Russian bombers and the missiles failed, the doctrine was that they were supposed to use the F-106's wing as a knife to cut off the rear elevators of the bomber and then eject. But the pilots knew they wouldn't survive going up against the tail gunner so they knew the only option would be a suicide dive on the bomb bay to try and detonate the explosives around the core, creating a fizzle instead of a nuclear explosion.
I used to do the same thing in War Thunder. Very honourable!

I didn't even take these, they were floating around meme groups mocking Karl.

Quick Karl, tell me your accreditations and qualifications besides being a smug cunt on the internet and playing soldier dress up that means dick in real life.

I stand by my belief that the dislike of the forward assist started with people who either don't know or who forgot SPORTS.

And this, @SinistralRifleman, is why we make fun of Karl. That is the Karl we get to see: an arrogant, snarky asshole who refuses to concede the most basic of factual points.

Hell, I don't even like forward assists and I admit it was useful in Rittenhouse's situation. It's not that hard to admit one's opinion isn't final and immutable.

"Running the charging handle would have been a better choice"

Kyle was on his ass. Anyone who has tried to rack the charging handle from a seated position knows how much easier pressing the FA would be.
This is why you don't take tactical advice from never beens.

Tim from Military Arms Channel? The asshole who fucked over all the people who were on the buy list for the Hungarian SVD on AKFiles? Fuck dude, at least post the 9-Hole Review video that was probably a paid promotion.

This situation is a better argument to test your rifle for function from unconventional shooting positions and angles. Does your rifle work fired off your shoulder, upside down, sideways etc? Higher gas pressure for more bolt velocity generally helps with this.

This is why you don't take tactical advice from never beens.

Are you saying that Rittenhouse is a combat veteran now?

What does a practical accuracy test video on 9hole have to do with the use of the forward assist?

Brownells sent them a rifle. To my knowledge that is the extent of any “financial benefit” they got from it.

Since Karl bad man, maybe Mac’s opinion is more valid for you all: https://youtu.be/i_cdXSVmVxw
One of the commenters in that video mentioned something I don't see a lot of people talking about:

Yes. I, too, never noticed him using the FA. This incident showed how important the forward assist can be. It also showed how important a sling/weapon retention is, which was my first (and biggest) take-away when this initially happened. I re-evaluated and changed my sling setups after this.

That cheap-ass sling was one of the unsung heroes in that whole clusterfuck. If he had dropped his gun (or worse, the sling come loose/undone) when sk8er boi or jumpkick man got to him, he would have been dead meat on the street that night.

Are you saying that Rittenhouse is a combat veteran now?
No, but he currently has more actual self-defense experience than most people talking about forward assists. Including, last I checked, Karl.

There is something to be said for giving empirical evidence its due weight.

Agreed on slings. I’ve seen the same comments about people buying slings for their rifles after this. I always have slings on practical/defensive rifles because it was the mantra decades ago that a sling for a rifle is as a holster is to a pistol. I don’t have them on match guns most of the time because they make discard procedures more of a hassle.

George Zimmerman one shotted Trayvon with a Kel-tec PF9; does that mean the Keltec PF9 is now the ultimate combat handgun?

There’s a lot of people killing people with shitty guns. That doesn’t make them firearms experts; though the tactics and techniques they use might be interesting.

Another thing about forward assists, I after having used a certain .22 in my collection for hunting squirrels that had a bad habit of not picking up the first round when loading with the bolt handle, I got paranoid about brass checking on all my guns. My AR loads fine, but when I brass check it, it won’t be in battery any more and hitting the forward assist is much easier and comfortable than putting my thumb in the dished cut in the bolt. Also both of my ARs have the A1 teardrop style buttons if that means anything to anyone

That's a disingenuous argument and you know it. Not everybody who wants to shoot for either sport or self-defense has the spare cash to drop on a Glock or a high-quality AR, and that was the case with Rittenhouse. Between a Hi-Point or a Keltec in hand or Glock in the wishlist, I know what I'm picking.
