In the past month here are a list of the employees who have quit to prove to Denton just how irreplaceable they are (spoiler: they aren't)

Sultana Khan, "Editorial Researcher", who based on their article quality has been paid for years to do nothing
Caity Weaver, Senior Editor, best known for getting paid to eat a bunch of overpriced food and partying with Paula Deen for a week
Dayna Evans, Staff Writer, who quit after raising a lynch mob against Nobel Laurette Tim Hunt
Max Reed, Editor in Chief, resigned in protest over a board of directors saying blackmailing and outing a non-public figure by a gay truther conspiracy theorist.
Tommy Cragg, Executive Editor, who resigned after famously defending Sam "Bring Back Bullying" Biddle after his actions directly cost Gawker 7 figures in damages.

edit: you'll note that all the really awful people, the Nathan Graysons, the Patricia Hernandezs, the Sam Biddles, the George Dvorskys, and the entire Deadspin and Jezebel staff have hung on. Even they must realize that without Gawker they'll have to go back to serving unlimited appetizers at Applebees.

I don't want to get my hopes up, but it really seems like Gawker is beginning to implode bit by bit. Staff members are actually leaving and even some their own readers seem to be getting fed up with their bullshit. Not only that, other websites are becoming more and more critical of Gawker.

Plus, Lena fucking Dunham, someone who I honestly assumed was a fan of Gawker (she at least sounds like your average Gawker writer), actually said this:

Even a broken clock is right twice a day, yada yada yada.

Even if Gawker doesn't get shut down, I'm thoroughly enjoying all of the heat they've been getting, not to mention all of the internal drama.

I'm actually more laughing at the people leaving in protest. Who the hell is going to hire them with their resumés containing a history of writing for an infamous online tabloid?

I can see the interview now:

"Sorry , Mr. Reed but digging up celebrity porn videos/photos doesn't make you CNN material."

As a car guy, Jalopnik is the only Gawker site I can tolerate (and barely at that, many of their writers are terrible, like the rest of the Gawker universe).

The people that I really dislike are the regular Kinja commenters. There's some real cringe going on there especially among the power users that realize their pet website is falling down around them. They're desperately sucking off their favorite writers in the hopes that this was a bad dream and it'll all go away.

Wonder if Nick Denton will try to unload Gawker on someone else (assuming there's even any interested buyers at this point).

Well, maybe it's the fact Gawker has outed Lena Dunham's alleged rapist without consent or checking if it was him, Gawker responding to her request to remove a book proposal with mockery, or jezebel paying a bounty of $10k for untouched photos from her Vogue shoot that has caused her to not really be a fan of theirs?

A thing of note is that Rationalwiki on their article on Clickbait mention that gamergaters use the clickbait tag to describe everything ever written by Gawker.
http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Clickbait
Gawker are pretty damn clickbaity no matter which way you slice it, and that's coming from someone neutral on GG. Each of their articles aims for a type of yellow journalism viler than the papers.

That Kinja comment system is when the sites basically became a giant circle jerk of spastics enabling the narcissistic writers. It was always like that to some extent, but at least they'd get some feedback from reality from time to time.

I used to like the Gawker sites, to tell the truth. They were always assholes, but there was often some humor value to what they were doing, and as often as not, they afflicted people who really had it coming.

What became genuinely unappealing was when, while still being the same gargantuan shitheads they'd always been, they became holier than thou SJW cunts, acting as if they were somehow better than the toxic waste pits they emerged from in the first place.

I used to like deadspin ( the gawker sports site). Then it got infected by the annoying political bullshit from the rest of the network.

Oh yeah, isn't the Kinja system literally designed to create an echo chamber? From what I understand, the only way you can actually comment on articles is if already established commenters decide that you're "worthy;" in other words, if you say anything that hasn't been deemed "acceptable" by the Gawker hive mind, your comments will never see the light of day.

That's why it's so significant when even the commenters get fed up with Gawker, like the people who voiced their disgust on the article that outed that CEO.

Remember when Gawker's stance on 4chan was that they were pranksters and trolls rather than the scum of the earth and everything that's wrong with society? *sigh*

And the thing is, even once Gawker developed that sanctimonious, priggish attitude, they kept doing the exact things they shit on 4chan for: doxing people, leaking nudes, and the whole arsenal of villainy (oh but it's noble when WE do it). It really guaranteed a complete lack of sympathy when the shit hit the fan for them.

Nigga that's implying there will be water at the bottom of the ocean to carry them. All they're getting is leaking nuclear submarines, prehistorical horrors and spare naval mines from World War II. Maybe a suborbital team drop from the Hulkster and Macho Man when Macho Man returns from Valhalla.

So, it's started. Gawker quietly laid off a bunch of employees, they're relaunching gawker.com as a politics website. and now (wait for it) Jezebel is being retooled as their primary gossip site.

I wonder if that site's audience will be offended. Because it has this look like "hey this is our gurl site, gurls are dumb and they like gossip."
