I'm hoping that this cold snap is the equivalent of what we usually get here in April. I really want to put out my tomatoes and cucumbers and stuff soon. I also just realized an hour or two ago that I haven't checked on my grandmother's cacti, so hopefully the cold hasn't affected them. (Considering they've been outside for 20+ years, I'm not too worried, but it's possible that the rain last week washed away some of the leaves and stuff around them.)

I have control over the front garden and it's overgrown to shit so I've been pulling everything out and the stupid spindly green things are so deeply rooted and spread so much that I literally fucked up my hands pulling them out and I'm 3/4th done :(

Trimmed all of the lower branches from the 100+ foot cedar tree in my back yard yesterday. I forgot how much those branches can sting until I dragged them up into the woods. I couldn't even finish getting rid of them because my legs were on fire. Definitely going to wear jeans when I get the last of them this afternoon.

I had to repot the sensitive plant because it severely outgrew it's old pot, so much so that it's roots were coming out of the drainage holes.
It's not happy with me atm but hopefully it perk up with some sun and water, it's also graduated out of the Nepenthes tank so it was a big day for it. It'll probably have to he covered with a plastic bag for a while to adjust to the lower humidity levels

I still have 8 inches of snow on the ground :( I'm super ready to get back outdoors again and get my gardens up for the mega short summer season.

Also, 2 climbing, 20 swamp, and 11 poke milkweeds have sprouted so far.

Did you buy or make your bee house? I have lots of carpenter bees hanging out in my backyard and I really want to make a bee house as well

I made the house from scratch, but bought the cardboard tubes inside online. I think carpenter bees excavate there own holes from rotted wood so I doubt any would be interested in mason bee tubes. Maybe try putting some rotting logs in your flower garden? If your interested in mason and leafcutter bees, check out http://crownbees.com and http://www.xerces.org.

I have a question; I live in a semi cold climate and have German Chamomile plants that don't seem to like the cold very much. I have them inside on my window sill but even that's too cold for them to seem to grow adequately, so how would I go about insulating their roots to keep them warm enough to grow?

I've finally gotten around to planting my cool-season vegetables, now that it isn't snowing. Lettuce, kale, mustard greens, and swiss chard. Strawberries go in the ground Saturday.

German Chamomile are huge plants that spread all the over the universe, I don't think they can be grown in containers but must be planted in an in ground bed (where they can take over the world) but I think they die each year and must be planted again

Alright, take two with me and red maples. My mom has like 30 of these things in various stages of development, and is moving to a place with a postage stamp for a yard so she's giving them out like candy. I got one last year and somehow killed it almost instantly. This one has made it a week without losing all of it's leaves at least. I'm hoping I can keep it alive for a few years in this massive pot, till I own a place with a yard that I can plant it in.

How often are you watering? I don't know much about Japanese Maples other than we had a small one in the yard for my whole life until my brother chopped it down for some reason but from what I'd gathered is they don't like to be too dry. Also try giving some plant food (the water soluble stuff 20-20-20) every once and a while until the end of summer. Make sure the plant's soil doesn't get super soggy either with good drainage (hole in the bottom of the pot, lots of perlite)

I'm so jealous lol, here in SoCal wildflowers like that are hard to find.

I'm probably going to plant my vegetables this weekend. I'm definitely getting tomatoes and cucumbers this year, but I guess I'll see what else there is (and how much things cost) before I make any other decisions. I haven't planted watermelons for years, but they never really do great here.

Plant yellow squash! They're easy to grow, and they taste so good

I know! I love them, but I can't cook for shit. Although, I suppose I could look up some grilling stuff with them...
I slice them, toss them in some flour, and pan fry them with a little olive oil. They get nice and crispy
