I don't know what you mean by "socialize with people", but like any MMO it has text guild chats and custom group chats and stuff, and a friends list you can put people on.
 
Well there's Guild Wars 2 now that it's free to play and Star Wars The Old Republic. I'd love D&D and the problem with the starbound server is that it crashed alot which sucked :< Would love to see a autismcraft server though.
 
Since Surtur brought up DnD, if anyone is into old-fashioned DnD rules (2nd edition rule set) or just wants to play something that isn't an MMO, you could try out the Baldur's Gate (1 and/or 2) multiplayer. It's basically like Halo's where you co-op the main story, and whoever is the host of the session has main character status. So... it's basically a game of DnD, just older rules. I'm not sure if you can do The Black Pits on a multiplayer run, but that's an arena-type deal separate from the story. The games are very unlikely to bog down anyone's computer or anything, so there's that, but BG is still old even if you pick the Enhanced Edition.

On that note, you can also get Neverwinter Nights which is supposed to be prime for making your own campaigns with friends and it goes by 3rd edition rules, if that's something you're into.

I have the Enhanced Editions and the originals but I don't know how compatible they are, so that would be something to figure out. Personally I play EE more since it's easier to set up multiplayer on it plus a private game.
 
I know it's old but I've been (and still am) hunting for people to co-op Borderlands 2 with. The few times I've tried to have the game matchup with me were abysmal.

I would be up for BG EE. I only have the first one though, I have BG2 on disc.

Does anyone still play Call of Duty: World at War? I picked it up on steam because it was on sale and the X-box servers were dead last I checked but the PC ones are full. I want people to play Zombies with.
 
I've gotten into Smite again, if I had the money i'd make an Ark Evolved server to see kiwis get eaten by dinos or Autismcraft.
