Kandagawa Girls was a racing game that turned out worse than Wave Race 64, despite wave race being released decades earlier. The entire racing aspect was fucked which was why the game was bad, everything handled like cardboard boxes with rockets attached to them, there was no proper sense of handling, weight, and speed. The censorship policies played zero part in the game doing poorly, it had everything to do with the devs being unable to make a decent game.

Well that was their own doing, they risked a ton with the Senran kagura animated series that never panned out, dumped a shitload of cash into BIGGEST DUB EVER that took them years to recover from, and a made a bunch of very risky business decisions that never went anywhere that eventually lead to Marvelous being bought out by the Chinese.

Their whole problem was that they immediately cut the corners of whatever foundation they tried to build upon and put a ton of money and resources into other shit that had nothing to do with actually improving the core games themselves. They paid a shitload of money for VAs, cross promotions, a bunch of marketing shit, and were just poorly managed for a very long time. They were frivolous in all the wrong locations, while dumping cash on shit that they didn't need or weighed them down.

I can see you're point, but it's not a good thing because it ended the argument, at least for years.

As soon as they had a specific name for their enemy, Gamergate, they no longer had to even remotely bother addressing people's arguments, it was always just "oh, you're just one of those Gamergate types" and that was all they felt like they had to say.

Of course it didn't do them any favors in the long run because they certainly didn't win anyone over to their side, why would they need to? You're either a Gamergater or you're not, no need to make an argument for why people shouldn't be a Gamergater, just say the word "Gamergate" and it's a magic spell for a certain type of person to think "bad"

In the long run though if you expect younger people to join the ranks, those who it isn't going to be as clear why "Gamergate" is bad, then you need to make an actual argument for why it's bad.

The characters were not interesting and it couldn't even work for 12 episodes. meanwhile the gameplay was never expanded on or refined and anything that they called "revolutionizing" the gameplay was them sticking the characters in a very basic game that was of a different genre like a rhythm game.

But why did Ikkitousen and Queen's Blade have multiple successful animes? Isn't the entire point of stuff like that just to ogle the girls and the story is perfunctory? If Senran was a franchise already with some success like Queen's Blade then why did the anime fail where Queen's Blade succeeded?

This reminds me of Manyuu Hikenchou, the titty anime to end all titty animes and that one actually managed to have a pretty interesting story and yet it wasn't successful enough to get more than 1 season.

It really is frustrating with how arbitrary it seems to be as to what Japanese audiences make a success or failure.

All the girls were one dimensional characters meant to represent boobs and only boobs, they claimed they had ass but you look at the back of the preverbal box and there was no ass to be had and they effectively lied.

So you have a bunch of zero character development characters centered around a fetish and this is based on a game that is fairly basic dynasty warriors combat where you fight through the same handful of enemies before getting to a boss character which is just another character that you the player can play as. You play the first 30 minutes and you've seen all the arenas and enemies, now stretch this over 20-25 hours.

Now then a reason why a series like Zombie Land Saga went off as well as it did was because all the girls are total bros. Yeah sure it's a comedic take on idol bullshit and they'll pull double reverse 5D Chess irony and slapsticks, but it's not dragged down because they're actually full fledged characters and there's an actual ongoing story and logic to the world. They clearly spent time mapping shit out.

Senran kagura just expected to throw titties at the wall and expected them to stick because they though enough people with low standards would buy it to keep them afloat. So weep not for the waifus that have been binned for better ones shall always take their place. In general the majority of senran games sold less than what the company wanted to reach. But much like SJW political bullshit, fetish stuff will put the gameplay in the backseat just as frequent and they'll have a vocal minority screech on social media if their darling is looked less than glowing upon.

Anything that has gameplay ride less than shotgun all stems from the same river of shit.

I've long stopped trying to figure out by what metric an anime "failed" and how they get sequels. taking years just for another season is baffling to me.
