VICE is paying Klepek $100,000 a year for whatever it is he does

View attachment 1367543

he also posted that the lack of raise at Giant Bomb was because he didn't ask for one until he got the Kotaku job offer and they were willing to match it to keep him
Ensure you repost this whenever a G*mes J*urnalist tries to tell you how hard their life is and how they get cyber-murdered every second of their life by gamers.

He's making 100k at Vice, while Vice is struggling to turn a profit and currently restructuring and constantly laying people off. Wonder who's going to be among the first to go?

Also, holy fuck what is Vice paying Austin Walker then?

LOL. I call bullshit. With all the layoffs and shutterings going on among internet "journalism" websites, there's no way Patty is making over 50K

This clown certainly continues failing upwards.

All that money has to be going somewhere for them to be losing money continually when all they do is produce content that is nearly worthless from people who are themselves even more worthless.

100k? God, that makes me mad for real. That’s double the average salary level of my state. For a job that isn’t much harder than basic data entry.

Also, you can add FIFA to the list of games virtue signaling. Big full page in-game post, like they do for patch notes, headed Black Lives Matter and the usual “we will not rest until inequality is blah-blah”. And then you had to click “Agree” to proceed.

Especially ironic considering FIFA is one of the most corrupt sports bodies of all time.

I'm sure all those employees they fired in the last year are happy in the knowledge their money is going to a better place.

I remember one of those websites got into financial trouble not so long ago and it turned out that they were wasting their money and their office was in the building that replaced the WTC.

What product does Patrick Klepek produce that is actually worth 45K dollars a year, let alone 100K a year? The only thing I know about Patrick Klepek is he's a games journo, I can't name one good article he's written or any notable journalism he's done.

I just don't get why you can't just replace him and every other one of these journos with a text generator and hire Pajeet to clean the text up. It isn't like there's much of a difference between games journalism and advertising anyway.

I'm wondering if he's counting patreon bucks or other begging site income.

I think the only potentially good reporting he did was - supposedly- being the one who broke the story about the Infinity Ward leads getting fired. Which was 11 years ago.

The only guys who were ever good have all gone on to other stuff - I was a huge fan of Bruce Geryk, and he went on to become a brain surgeon who still occasionally does reviews/thinkpieces. Troy Goodfellow does PR for Paradox. Drew Scanlon started his human interest thing. Tom Francis is making his own games. And while I think he’s a PoS, Dan Ryckert went to the WWE. Basically, anyone who has any ability eventually graduates from games joirnalism to something cool.

the only ones I still enjoy are guys like Geryk and whoever runs Kinglink, who are clearly doing it on their own, for fun, because they have an interest (and insights) and want to share it with people.

I've pretty much given up on games journalism. Nowadays, when I want good content on video games (especially past ones), I watch YouTubers like The Gaming Historian, My Life in Gaming, King K, Game Sack, Matt McMuscles, and a few others I can't recall right now.

Same. I watch most of those as well. I'll add a few more I like: Wrestling With Gaming, Top-Hat Gaming Man, Modern Vintage Gamer, Taki Udon.
They're all mostly focused on retro and modding/hacks. I don't often watch reviewers who do new games.

I'm a degenerate pirate, so for the most part I just pirate the game and try it myself rather than watch someone else play it (or listening to them shill it). I do still buy games here and there though, usually second-hand. I'm on a personal crusade against shitty practices.

Love RPGs? You'll love SsethTzeentach and his humor is top notch and does not pull any punches with his jokes. At the same time, he still goes in depth on the games themselves which is an incredible feat.

And at the time, he admitted that it was dropped in his lap, and he had concerns about publishing it because it was clearly part of Infinity Ward's legal strategy. So the only thing of note in his career was handed to him by someone else.

What I want to know is if these game journos are pulling 100k a year, how do they justify payola? I thought the whole payola and gifts racket was hand waved as being needed to feed their families, cover the cost of business, or some other pity story. With 100k a year, plus getting almost their game and consoles for free, games journos should be living like kings and laugh in the face of any publisher that tries to bribe them with dinner at a starred restaurant and a free copy of Assassins Creed.

LOL. Kotaku just keeps pooping out more shit.

They posted a review of The Last of Us 2, and their big takeaway is that it's "too violent".

This is some shit tier reviewing on the level of IGN's "TOO MUCH WATER" review for Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

I mean, a game full of gun toting radicals and bloodthirsty zombies has lots of killing in it? QUELLE SURPRISE!
