Is anyone else bothered by how many 'ethics in journalism' people are willing to forgive or simply just ignore what Niche did? Like I'm pro-GG, I don't make that a secret, but I'm also disappointed in a lot of people right now.
Not really. I won't repeat what @SiccDicc and @Jaimas have said, but one thing I'd add is that there's a reason anti-GG sites like One Angry Gamer and Niche Gamer are in the OP. Old GG hang outs like Kotaku In Action went to shit even before the admin went full SJW.

KIA really is a tragic case.

Even if you believe they deserve some of it (and to be fair, they do on some fundamental level), KIA had constant attempts to force it to take one side or another in conflicts that had nothing to do with GG. From GAY OPS conducted by Ethan Ralph to attempts to exploit it to fill patreons, to being a flashpoint in the ongoing war between two equally autistic communities, KIA had constant agitation attempting to get it shut down since day one, and was forced to play by rules no other community would get saddled by on Reddit for at least a few years. Throw in the attempts of the original site owner to shut it down and trying desperately to maintain itself while everything wanted it gone, and you have a community that's become a parody of what it was intended to be.

There's only so many times a community can endure GAY OP after GAY OP, personal army request after personal army request, before xenophobia and resentment sits in.

Don't forget being the origin of the feud between KF and the Pederast of Welwyn Garden City.

Brandon's a scumbag and all but it's pretty funny seeing people hop on Sal Romano's dick even though he's about as boring and generic as every other gaming journo out there.

I've essentially given up on journalism/game journalism at this point, and tend to rely on aggregated advice/fans views of different games, or just go with my gut instinct on what I'm going to enjoy. Since I don't spend a lot of money or time on gaming, I can afford to take a flutter now and again on something that I think might be good, but not sure of.

That aside, fuck game journos. They're basically bottom dwellers who get in on an incredibly easy genre to write for, (like sports) Which is popular and already has a dedicated fanbase, and in an attempt to justify their overblown degrees and the money wasted on them seem to think that their opinions genuinely count in their reporting, and that people actually give a shit about their social justice causes. If people want that, they'll read a genuine slanted newspaper and not the detritus that the game journos squeeze out over their lunch breaks.

That and the fact they will neck their mother for early access and goodies (ethics, ethics, ethics) and it's no wonder why nobody should take them seriously or does any more.

I suppose that explains why that game was a pile of repetitive shit, and why the development studio behind it, Massive Black (whose logo was a crowing cock), mysteriously disappeared.
He decided to change the name on Steam to Stealth Game or something and later stealth.gg, all the while claiming he "sold the game for someone else to work on" since it had terrible netcode, which guess what! Day of Dragons has terrible netcode. SteamDB keeps track of all changes made to the Steam page including names of companies used and changes to side bar information.

Also, wouldn't you support this upstanding man? He did nothing wrong!

Vice explains why 4X&strategy game sucks(hint: they're problematic)

It starts going off on evolution and Darwin at one point.
This illustrates one of the problems with evolutionary views: They create rigid typologies (the rungs of the ladder) that break down very quickly given the incredible diversity of human populations. Even in Europe this should already have been clear: one of the oldest sites of sedentary habitation on the continent is the Iron Gates region of the Danube, where the Lepenski Vir I and II archaeological sites are located. Problem is, those populations don’t seem to have ever developed agriculture, which is what is “supposed” to happen.

[yes, that is the picture immediately below that paragraph]

This article is like a shady Dollar Store burger. 23% beef, 68% soy, 9% potato starch, flour(gluten) & spices.

someone tell him writing vice articles explaining why a silly video game is historically inaccurate won't pay off his college debt lol.

This is one of the biggest faggots in games journalism, a profession stacked to the brim with faggots, cunts, losers, hacks and human excrement. That's fucking a monumental achivement. The man should be given the EIC position at Polygon.

I am interested in Humankind, but that is a whole bunch of hilarious faggot nonsense.

My favorite part was when he was trying to anticipate my objections but my only one was "it's a game, it has to have certain abstracted systems" not anything he was writing about.

Aside from the Humankind shilling at the end, that article is similar to previous opinions I've read saying the same thing. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a copy and paste of a previous article.

Dunno, fam, Ghandhi with nukes will be the main reason to get back to replay Civ from times to times no matter how toxic it is.
also y’all remember Amazonian queen in Civ 3? She was my first vidya waifu.

Vice likes to pretend they are smart to shill shit. I know Kunzelmann has made some pretentious articles about pessimistic games that I admit made me think

Until companies like Sega stop copyright striking fans for uploading game footage, journalists will be an irremovable parasite in gaming as the only legitimate source of information out there. This is not helped by the fact the real fans who could strike out a living and not suffer from job burnout are also unable to get their foot in their door. Guys like Brandon and OAG are jokes, sites like Moegamer belongs to blackballed journalists who cant take a hint that obscure tiddy games dont generate clicks and ad revenue. Shits fucked for the fans who wants to write about video games pure and simple.

Meanwhile the guy with a semi legitimate side gig in media production and writing thought provoking articles has potential and wont spend the rest of his life covering corporate ticker reports and can move on up in the media octopus that is Vice/Vox/Gawker

Face it, 500s in patreon revenue is a pathetic joke for Niche.

What Brandon did is unfortunate, but I don't know of any other website that provides the service NicheGamer does. So I'll probably keep reading them, you really don't have all that many good options when it comes to vidya gaem review websites.

The site that Brandon plagiarized from is a good substitute for weeb games. The only service Niche Gamer under Orselli gives is an environment for OAG's audience to circlejerk on. Look at the most commented articles and you get an idea of how Brandon rubs shoulders with OAG

Nichegamer plagiarized several times Gematsu, the latter is a much better news outlet if you're into japanese games and dont want to see any hot outrage/political take in the feed.
And like @BrokenWokenBespoken said, Nichegamer is a sort-of second home for the oneangrygamer audience

That's helpful information, thanks, but at the same time I don't mind the OAG audience and I don't really get all upset when they go off on a tirade about some issue or another, and I find socjus stuff to be rather annoying, so the occasional article complaining about it doesn't massively bother me. The plagarism stuff sucks, but as I said before, my options here are somewhat limited.

Plus, Nichegamer also covers somewhat obscure western titles too, something Gematsu doesn't, based on my quick look over of the site. Still though, thanks for the new website to check, it does look very useful.
